@@user-wy5xe6ht2m yes - back in schumi's time you had to qualify with race fuel onboard. It was advantageous to be heavier than your rivals to overcut them so Schumi was generally heavier than his rivals so lost poles purely due to that extra weight.

Context matters. He says the stats are unimportant compared to working hard and winning. He also says comparing stats to a different generation doesn't show the full picture. And just because he says he doesn't care much about the stats, and that he knows the generational limitations, doesn't mean he shouldn't know the stats. He's a very detail-oriented guy.
We've already seen that when he began his career. His first several wins over the first few years were in an inferior car. He was aggressive nearly to the point of being reckless at times precisely because he had to find a way to make up for the inferior car. He's a better driver today because of the fact that he was forced to outdrive his car early on.
