    Doctor here.. You are spot on as always. I love the long walk-and-talk format, and enjoy a nice, long rant on my own walks. I am currently experimenting with a hybrid ketogenic/Intermittent fasting nutrition plan. Very surprised at the results I am seeing. The physiology makes perfect sense. Insulin is key, and we barely give it any thought. If you have not yet researched into it, I would highly recommend it.

    • @HabitsV2

      Thanks Ayan. I've been reading a lot about insulin resistence - I tended to eat a lot on the sweet side when I was vegan plant based and despite all the advice that as long as you are eating the right type of foods, you'll lose weight regardless how much you eat. I've also been reading a lot about how fat has been demonised over the past century - at least natural fats - to be replaced by factory made vegetable oils.

      @@HabitsV2 Absolutely.. when you eat and how often plays a very important role in insulin regulation and has far reaching effects into overall health and well-being.. Also, thank you for everything that you do, Kevin. You are a great inspiration and a life saver. I recommend your channel to any of my patients who are struggling with alcohol.
      By the way, gourgeous views!

    I've heard and 1 month in... again, I am still feeling the urge to shove sugary sweets down my throat. This video came (for me) at a good time. I'm currently constipsted, have just woken up and am on coffee no. 2 with 3 sugars, trying to get some movement at the station. I'm going to cut down on chocolate and basically all forms of sugar and grab an apple or a carrot instead. I believe what Kevin is saying: a varied diet including meats, vegetables etc. It's great to be living in an age where we can go to a supermarket and buy produce from all over the world. My shopping list will look a bit different next payday.

    Never thought I would notice a change in my eating, but since I stopped drinking alcohol 4 weeks ago, food tastes so much better! I have healthy habits, but it's like flavor is highlighted or more vibrant. Can't explain it so well, but just wanted to share 😊

    Hi Kevin great video I have exhausted so much research on diet, 6 months sober trying to make other changes to better my life and the frustration I’ve found finding simple nutrition info has nearly drove me back to the drink! I followed the low carb/keto and experienced this dogma and the war between Calories and hormones and RUclips doctors it all got too much. Trying to ditch weight and heal Physically after years of abusing my body and it gets too much. Everyone contradicts another, studies are misinterpreted. Good luck finding your own way that’s right for you and thanks for the video 🙏

    Nice views of Andorra now! I haven't eaten animals since 1989, personally I can't imagine killing an animal to eat it therefore I don't and I don't even consider it an option. Recommend listening to Will Bulsiewicz on the Rich Roll podcast last week. The protein argument is all well, but fibre, good gut health are most important, few people flag up the fact that most humans are deficient in fibre. If you eat a varied diet and don't eat crap (and there you have to include all processed meats and sugary snacks) and exersise daily then why worry?

    Take a look at how you eat as well as what you eat. I've incorporated intermittent fasting in my routine and it feels like the right direction. Humans didn't evolve to constantly shovel food into our mouths all the time. Give your digestive system a rest occasionally.

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  2 года назад +4

      Of course. First though, I would like to have workable, incontrovertible information about what humans should eat for optimum health and well being.

    • @Nickelodeon81
      @Nickelodeon81 2 года назад +1

      @@HabitsV2 Maybe you are overcomplicating things. Humans as omnivores can absorb minerals and nutrients as required. Eat good clean food, free from additives and preservatives.

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  2 года назад +2

      @@Nickelodeon81 There's the problem. What exactly is good clean food, free from additives and preservatives? The only way you know you are truly getting that is to only grow and consume what you grow. It's also a perspective. Have a look at how vegetable oil is made in comparison to butter on "How it's Made" here on YT. Yet, government guidelines suggest staying away from the latter in favour of the former.. I think the complication isn't in what you eat, it's more in trusting what you eat. Even the definition of 'organic' is open to interpretation.

    • @Nickelodeon81
      @Nickelodeon81 2 года назад +2

      @@HabitsV2 Essentially, avoid heavily processed food. Food is processed for two main reasons: 1: to preserve shelf life (i.e. delay rotting, perishing) and/or 2 to make food "taste" nice so we keep coming back for more. Both involve artificial chemicals to achieve. This is why I don't like some vegan meat free alternatives, they add so much crap to make it palatable. Just my thoughts.

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  2 года назад +2

      @@Nickelodeon81 Exactly. I think I talked about this in the video. Avoiding industrial food is a given for most sensible diets. Whole food is a great start. I believe it's when it comes to the meta analysis where we find most fault. Should you eat animal foods or not? Is GMO a worry? Organic or not? When experts cannot agree on basic things like optimal carb/protein/fat... or even if a certain fat/protein/carb is good or bad for you - apart from the obvious man made crud. That's where the problems lay. I tend to agree more with all rounders. I find vegans have a moral argument that taints the facts.

    I love your long range walking videos. I like your enquiring mind. Re food and nutrition, you're dead right that you can't trust the "experts" or the "government" as they only serve their own purpose and promote that which makes them richer and keeps the masses confused. That might seem a little dark, but that's my conclusion after years of reading and research. So is best to trial and error yourself on what to eat that makes you feel the best. And definitely the best thing everyone should include in their lifestyle, is "keeping the alcohol out of their mouth"!😀

    I’ve been on a Vegan diet for many years and I’m 200lbs and bench press 315. My best advice if your trying a vegan diet is supplement Omega 3 if you want to get this through food it’s hemp hearts and flax/chia seeds. You also need to supplement B12 but that omega 3 is a must!!! Too much omega 6 causes inflammation. I think it’s a better diet because you don’t get all those added hormones chickens and cows get to become fat quickly. Also there’s no saturated fat or cholesterol. Stay away from fake meats! Eat organic no added hormones and grown in the USA even if it’s meat. I easily get 170g of protein a day and maintain my 3000 cal diet. It’s just choosing the right foods and eat a lot! Lift heavy! 💪🏼💪🏼😂

    Excellent content Kevin. Love your walking videos most of all, even better now you have conveniently relocated for our greater enjoyment!
    Agree with much you say. I would theoretically love to embrace the vegan diet, but frankly it’s chock full of shite. Seed oils, flours, thickeners, thinners, preservatives. And presented in different SHAPES, with suitably different names. I do understand the problems associated with breaking out of a school of thought and practice. It takes a lot of digging, reading, decisions and observation. Keep on talking about what you are doing. It’s inspiring to watch, thank you.

    Almost 3 years sober, I burn so many calories with my job and do a lot of walking these days. I just want to make sure I'm getting enough calories. Doing my best to cut out sugar and snack foods. I'm doing a mix of meat and plant based.. also going to start drinking more whole milk.. it's never done me wrong in the past and I need the extra calories and fat. Any tips on staying a healthy weight when burning so many calories would be helpful 🤙

    Our ancestors consumed a lot of meat which included a lot of fat. Nuts seeds fruit etc. were only eaten to fend off starvation when meat was scarce. Our bodies evolved and were designed to eat meat. Limit the carbs.

    I've never believed that a diet that excludes meat is somehow magically better. Some of the healthiest groups with the highest life expectancies eat a moderate amount of meat/seafood (Japanese, Spaniards, Greeks, etc.) And India has a low life expectancy with the vegetarians, who comprise 50% of its population, being the most obese. And you make a great point about the fake meat, that stuff is pure garbage. I don't see how baked salmon or free-range organic chicken is worse for you than a hyper-processed soy patty. I've studied this topic myself quite a bit and have come to the conclusion that moderation really seems to be the key to diet (but not alcohol). Eat your vegetables, fruits, healthy oils, some meat, and even a burger or dessert every once in a while. Great video Kevin and awesome scenery!
