I disagree, I think this is the character arc Finn should have had in star wars. If you edit things out and put them in the Star Wars verse, This is basically just an upgraded TFA. I guess you could make the argument that even then, his character writing could have been improved but this does the job well enough for everyone. Now he has to shoulder the burden of becoming the "hero" of the brotherhood while having to choose between his duty or finding the girl he simps for.
