I grew up on a small ranch/farm just outside of Danbury, a 25 min. drive to that beach. My parents often threw the 4 kids and 2 big dogs in the back of the pick-up on weekends and headed to that beach (1960s). At that time, it was just called "the beach." It uad no official name or signage and NONE of those structures (houses or restaurants) existed. Food and drinks were strictly BYO. The two dogs (shephards) were extremely protective and kept a close eye on us as toddlers. If they deemed we had wandered too far into the surf, they were quick to pull us back to safety on the beach by the criss-cross straps on the back of our bathing suits. Before returning home, we would drive a bit further West to Freeport to catch the shrimp boats returning at sunset with a fresh catch of shrimp which they sold cheap by the pound to eager customers awaiting their return on the docks. We made out like bandits and then rushed home to cook up a very tasty shrimp feast. Fun times and good memories. Thanks for the trip. I haven't been back for 55 years.

Hello there 👋. For you question, I asked my friend who went to Surfside last month (May 2023). According to her, the beach was safe for the children to swim. Her two little boys had fun swimming and she enjoyed watching them. In fact, they went back two weeks after. I think it is fine. Just be aware of your surrounding and watch your children closely.

We go to Surfside for a few days each summer to take our grandkids to the beach. It is very family friendly.

It depends on the surf conditions. Wearing an approved life vest is never a bad idea.
