@@FitBabe The built up areas of the island aren't bad as far as mosquitoes. The west end and the far east end, and areas touching the bay are the worst. I live in "Fish Village" (a subdivision so called because the streets are named after fish) just across the Ferry Rd from the east end flats where dredge material from the ship channel has been pumped for years. I get assaulted by them on my way out to my car and always end up with a dozen or so in the vehicle with me. I lived in San Antonio for a while and laughed myself silly because some guy at my mother-in-laws house had to go inside because the mosquitoes were "just horrible" in her back yard. Yep he got bit twice in 3 hours. I still get a chuckle 43 years later.
This video is from June 2011. There is a brief moment of the menu at the "Shrimp n Stuff" restaurant he visits, and those prices are soooo much lower than today's prices. For example, tea was approximately $1.50 back then, but it is now more like $3.50.

So happy that you covered “The Face on the Wall”. I’ve seen it at night, however I don’t remember which panel he was in. AND…. You got the story right!
There are reportedly dozens of "faces" on the building, and an article on it in an Austin paper (if memory serves) brought two college students to see them one night. The driver tried to do a 3 point turn where the roadway ended, and backed down UTMB's boat ramp. The vehicle lost traction and slipped into the water. One of the girls got out and the other didn't make it. I was working for the Port Police at the time when I heard the radio call, and my Sgt and I were the first cops on the scene. The vehicle was already on the completely submerged and there were no bubbles to mark it's position. I never felt so helpless in my life. The area is now blocked off and UTMB Police will arrest you if you try to get over there. Stay your goofy butts away. These are merely discolorations on the concrete caused by moisture on an uneven surface and/or impurities in the concrete mix itself. That young lady would have been around 50 by now, but instead she died over something too stupid mention in intelligent company.
That Bishops house is the most lavish Victorian home I've ever seen. Incredible! I would love to see it and the tall ship. Great episode over all Chet!
Grew up 30 minutes outside of Galveston. Spent my childhood going to the beaches and then later on when I got older, got a job at UTMB. I know the island pretty darn well.
