I like your design. Mine is currently broken off and I’m going to do something similar with a 2” receiver tube.

Building a hitch for a 1993 350 Bigbear 4x4, old. It looked like you were welding GALVANIZED STEEL. Fumes are VERY bad for your health, use a fan to blow it away. You will be better off in the long run. Good Job

I agree with ya there. I try to grind the coating completely off just for those reasons.

Thanks John. I’ve bought a number of things from Princess Auto over the years.

How well did the new receiver work out? Have you got to test it out yet?

Hey Shane! The receiver has worked great. I’ve towed my 14 foot trailer around the yard with it and hauled full trailer loads of wood with it.

Takes practice and the mini grinder is your best friend.

Found this while researching how to improve my hitch on the Sportsman 800. Groundhog Max actually makes a kit that bolts on underneath the factory hitch. It has a section of tubing that runs well under the frame. I may weld mine into place. I don't have much luck with bolt on stuff.

    @ sandy
This guy used to live next door to me while I was building a crappy little trailer with almost no welding experience. Few weeks later he was asking what was I doing, I told him building a trailer for whatever. He says "oh, I thought you were training to become a professional grinder".
    :-( :-( :-(
Unfortunately I haven't gotten much better since.

haha I like that one. I always say that I"ll get better at grinding before I get better at welding

Not a bad video bud, may I ask what you use to edit your videos?

I can't believe Polaris can't sell a hitch to fit their ATVs

They sell the atv with 1 1/8” hitch mount but it bent quite quickly. They likely don’t want too heavy of a load on the machines

I was just at my dealership looking at a new 450 HO Utility and yes they sell a stupid looking 1.25-2” adapter that sticks out a extra foot and costs another hundred bucks, why is it so hard for them to put a decent hitch on their quads?

By the way the welding rod was hot, all the way to the holder, you might have the heat up way too much. Not criticizing, trying to help.

Thanks I appreciate the help. I’m still learning when it comes to welding

Usually from the rod stuck on the metal too long and not welding

    Don't mount it high

Yeah it really annoys me how ATV manufacturers produce quads without hitches. Everyone wants to haul stuff with their quad and is forced to do this kind of work in order to be able to pull something. Video would have been better without that brutal music by the way.
