- Miss Kitty Wells sings her big 1952 #1 hit 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels' at the Grand Ole Opry. The songwriter was Jimmy D. Miller.
Lyric:
As I sit here tonight the jukebox playing
The tune about the wild side of life
As I listen to the words you are saying
It brings mem'ries when I was a trustful wife
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
[ fiddle ]
It's a shame that all the blame is on us women
It's not true that only you men feel the same
From the start most ev'ry heart that's ever broken
Was because there always was a man to blame
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
kitty wells is my aunt!!! and she was a joy to be with!!
Is that true
Yea!!!she was my dads sister
Julia Myers Your aunt was a LEGEND.

Julia Myers she is definitely the best! my parents raised me on her music. love it!!!
Just a mexican guy who love classic country music.

Nothing wrong with that.. 😊
i'm asian
Same here brother
Me too
Now friends, that is country! Seems it has gone forever. Thank goodness for RUclips.
I am sorry I didn't realize anyone was hearing this are you listing to this and how
It is gone 4 ever , so called country 2 day rap & all the crap is sicking!!!!
three chords and the truth, it's what makes great country music.
That golden period in the nineties was pretty cool though.
I think you'll find Roots Country is the closest you'll get these days. And it's great music, well worth giving it a listen. And Bluegrass is still going strong.
Still sounds so fresh over 50 years later. Miss Kitty was One of the greats.
70 years now
Kitty Wells was queen of classic country music! I was born in the 1940s.
I had the privelege of hearing Her at a County fair in the late 50s!
@@lloydconley6421 OR Loretta Lynn.

She was very very good
Finally 1 million views for the song that started it all for women in country music. 1 million views for the greatest lady of country music, 1 million views for a class act, 1 million views for the voice of many generations of country fans. 1 million views for the legendary Kitty Wells.
Thanks Angelo so beautiful , my goodness now you really made me feel good. She was just great. Live on spirit of Kitty Wells you left some legacy
8 years later and 8 Million views
Did you forget about The Carter Family? Kitty, as amazing as she was, didn't start it all for women in country music. If you're talking airplay nationally, then that is something I don't have enough data to comment on. Glad you're a fan of this style. I hope you're going to shows. Lots of great female country singers out there who aren't famous and playing bars/clubs.
@@someguy4505 as groundbreaking as Maybelle and Sarah were, they didn't manage to open the industry's doors for female country singers right after them. Well, in the late 20s and 30s there really wasn't an industry to begin with. That changed in the late 40s and especially in the 1950s. Kitty was the first female country artist to consistently chart hit after hit and soon after others followed: Goldie Hill, Skeeter Davis, Jean Shepard, Patsy Cline and on and on into the 1960s. We neeeded that one female sensation to start it all in the 1950, and she was there to deliver.
Her class. The era. The sound. The whole picture. Every aspect. The song. How it’s sung. The innocence. The beauty. Feel me?
The bigotry.
Kitty Wells is a great singer. I'm 20 and classic country is all I listen to.
mitchell meierhoff RIGHT! ?! That’s awesome ... keep that light alive. That passion. I feel the exact same!
Good vibes to you!
Yes Valentina , isn't it wonderful ? R.I.P. Darling Kitty .
@ObsidianBuddah Yes I grew up in the South dumbfuck
Grandma I'm listening to this song because I am missing you and I know how much Kitty Wells was your favorite country singer.
She lives on.....my sister and I sang this song in our last family Reunion 2009. Now 83 and cancer free. Thanks be to God.
Hello, So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song. How are you?
SING IT, KITTY! You are just telling the truth! You are a pioneer for women. Even before Patsy and Loretta!! Just stating my opinion! The truth is the truth!!
Yep. Tom T. Hall sang a great tribute to her about that
I'm sorry you have had your heart broke we know that this can be true.I have also known of several women whom did their man wrong can't put all blame in one place..
@@KenPeters-z2pHEY SHE WAS JS, ITS NOT ALL OF US WOMEN TO BLAME 😂😆😂
Absolutely I was blessed with a wonderful woman whom I have loved 44 years😊
My Mom used to play this on the piano and sing it. I am almost 60... Lost her over a year ago at 95.. Rip Mommy.😘
She will always remain in a special place in your heart. Hope you're staying safe over there?
So sorry.
God bless you and your mother
She is the Queen of
Country Music She made the way for female singer ❤🎉
This song was a "reply" song to Hank Thompson's mega hit, "The Wild Side of Life". Another interesting fact is that this melody has topped the charts FIVE times! Each time with different lyrics. "The Great Speckled Bird", "The Prisoner's Song" and "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes".
I knew The Wild Side of Life from Jerry Lee's version, but he called it Honky Tonk Angels. I was watching a Status Quo video and looked up who wrote it, and that led me here!
So true.....many married men pretend to be single..same in both worlds...❤
I grew up listening to this and so country music will always be this style for me not country pop......relaxed,smooth,and simple honesty.....
Hello friend, how are you doing today?
Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton the absolute best female country singers that have ever graced us with their talents. There will never be any other to replace them.
Bob Onanza
Come on now, this is not necessary. Keep it friendly, thanks
***** Those you mentioned are good but I wouldn't consider them the greatest.
Casey28027
+Casey28027 - Definitely would add Patsy Cline to that list. Still Kitty was great, and she broke through that glass ceiling.
+Casey28027 And, Patsy Cline!
Kitty is my number one female singer of all time. That is why she is still the Queen of country music.
I used to play guitar for her and Johnny. My wife and I sure did love her. Everytime we're back in Nashville we drive past their house. The old bus is still in the driveway toward the back of the house.
That’s great!!!
Well sir, you are a legend if you played with Kitty and I thank you.
My dad always loved to play kitty wells records that’s how I got hooked on her too now she’s an angel in heaven
Kitty Wells blew the guys away…,..real Country Singer--/the best Country Singer. They all good in their way, but Miss Kitty Wells is true Country!
Thanks to my Dad, I’ve listened n grew up with Country music all my life. But I’m from Hawaii n I love Hawaiian music too.

She was a good singer with great voice. Hope you're staying safe over there?
I love this song Kitty Wells did a lot of good songs back in the 60s nice memories. How are you Elizabeth ?
I miss the good old days when we had lots of great country music on the radio.
Well I do agree with you, Hello Dean how are you doing 👋👋👋
@@jamesanderson8078 I am doing well and how about you.
@@deanmaker.4916 I'm great, thanks so where are you from?
This, in my opinion, is one of the most important Country Songs ever. It proved, beyond any doubt, that there were women who were great country singers!!
WUNDERBAR !! ❤🖤
We met the son of the guitar player on the right. Sid is his name and he played for Merle Haggard too! A great guitar player. Now playing for Generation Country.
Killy wills
Nice talent with this song back in the 60s one of my favorite country music singer Kitty. How are you Patti ?
If I start thinking Kitty's gone I only want to cry.
I'm only 20, but I love her and I miss her.
A true country girl with values (she stayed married until her husband died, after 74 years together).
The same to me but with Hank Williams
my opinion she was queen of country music
it's never too late to listen to great country music like this. they don't play this on the radio anymore to let others know that this is music
Angelo Rinaldi Johnny cash Rosanna's going wild
Lance Couture
Yes they do listen to WSM radio 650am Nashville TN free app to get them online
And to think that this was recorded in a time that women were not in the majority of country and western music. Kitty Wells was a MAJOR trailblazer and an inspiration to so many women in music, all types of music!! She was and still is AMAZING!
She was my great great great aunt
Kitty Wells has passed. Thank the good Lord he gave a wonderful voice..she will live on as long as we remember!
Hello friend, how are you doing today?
I believe she was the first woman country music singer before any of the others she was great loved her voice
Even it 2023 now I still love to listen to her❤
I was born in 1994 and i love music like this 😊
Now this was real music, country music. So sad to hear what it is now.
I really enjoy listening to these songs
Hello friend, how are you doing today?
Yes. Back in the 60s nice memories with this song back in the 60s one of my favorite country music singer. How are you Lois ?
What ever happened to GOOD country music? We miss you kitty.
it is still around just not played on the radio anymore.
@RawPhotography you are so right. It seems like almost every day I see a new artist that is supposed to play country like it used to be (and I know there are groups out there playing real country - there's just none on the radio). Seems like around the time of "Urban Cowboy" it took a wrong turn and never steered things back.
Dwight Yokum and Pam Tillis tried to save country music, they just couldn't do it by themselves.
Check out The Reeves Brothers, Kelsey Whardon and Joe Wortell and the Natural Law for actual good new Country
@@rollnrocksteve Lack of money in Real Country Music I do believe, there's more INSTANT cash available for the pathetic ' three word screechers' of today, backed by equally incompetent idiots plunking guitars, they make the hit parade because those who operate the Studios ( thus the music choices), have little knowledge of any style of music, also the impressionable 'young' folk who are ardent radio listeners,(albeit on the earbuds and Smart Phones) believe what they hear, if they are told 'THis is Great Music, they sadly believe it, the lack of ability in discernment is rampant today. There are, however, a good selections of REAL COUNTRY music groups available on the net, it's a matter of seeking it out from the garbage unfortunately, be patient and you'll find it.
Sadly these old country tunes get NO AIRPLAY on radio and although Patsy Cline seems to get airplay on Sirius XM you never hear Kitty Wells. Thankfully we have CD's and You Tube.
So true
For me, dear friend. the RADIO no longer counts for anything. It was good until the 70s and, at most, the 80s but now, there are other, much more important communication channels. Greetings. ruclips.net/video/mg8csEhcNMk/видео.html *ROADHOUSE BOOGIE* Country Guitar by *Duane Eddy*
