I would disagree, a lot of comic fans are aware of it, but practically none have read it, and outside of comic fans, very few people know of him, despite JLU
With all of the ridiculous conspiracy theories out there The Question could be a very relevant character right now, bonus points if he mocks flat earthers.
The Question, a very underrated and underused character that deserves to be put (back) in the spotlight, weather it be in comics tv or film, although, I really hope WB/the DCEU or WoDC make a Question film, that would just be a dream come true, for me anyway.
I managed to get the full run of the comic, including annuals, in a second hand shop around 20 years ago. Haven't looked at them in a few years, might have to go dig them out again.
jekblom123 nah he isn’t as good I don’t think he’s just below he’s smarter than them though. Batman did usually used to beat lady shiva all the time but recently she said she was better hand to hand and did hurt him pretty bad. I’d say batman and shiva r about equal cuz that’s what bat,an says in a death in the family. Cassandra cane however is better than both it seems as she best lady shiva in there second confrontation although shiva did best her the first time they fought the second time Cassandra wiped the floor with her. In comparison to batman however batman has admitted Cassandra is a better hand to hand combatant than even him.
Mr.A - Ditko's true representation of objective philosophy The Question - watered down Mr.A for DC Rorschach - banana bonkers crazy version of Question
It's when you have hunted every lead and squeezed the blood from every stone for answers, when you see no end in sight and your world is unraveling before you, then you ask... The Question.
I've recently picked up the first 14 issues and am half way through. I'm eager to watch this video but want to read more before I continue on. Great stuff so far, boh the books and the video!
Spot on review! I read a little of this series when it came out, but I keep hoping that, with Mr. O’Neill’s passing, that DC would get their act together, and re-reprint these in the trades (since they are soooooo hard to find now)🤞😊
Awesome! I really enjoyed Longbow Hunters, Watchmen, and Justice League Unlimited, so I'll be sure to try and find this series. Here's hoping they digitize it for Comixology. It may take off on that platform.
yup. Thank you, I love The Question. I have all those comics. Also love the late 80s 12 issue mini series of the Unknown Soldier by Christopher Priest (Jim Owsley at the time) that's another great read that is probably obscure as hell.
One, great video and I would love to see more of them. Your analysis of literature of the graphic form is amazing. Also, stop hating because of the Rorschach comparison! Yes, he is based off of The Question but he isn't The Question; that's the point. He is what The Question could've become much like how Batman could've became Deadshot if he hadn't chosen the path that he did. Because let's be honest, the joker may be the the never ending thorn in his side. But, between Ra'as Al Ghul and Deadshot; you're not going to find many in his rogues gallery with the same ticks and quirks as the bad bat himself.
I absolutely looooovvvveeeee The Question, and this run is my favorite comic book of all time. I'm hoping, his return in Action Comics will lead to a solo series that does the character justice. I would also like to say that issues of this series are not all that difficult to find. I've never seen a trade, but i own every single issue from the main run and only had difficulty in track 3 of them down. However, admittedly, the quarterlies do remain illusive and i only have the first one.
Best character in the popular JLU cartoon and inspiration for the POV character of the critically acclaimed Watchmen in a series written by a comic legend. Yeah, that's super obscure. Also, have you heard about this new Batman guy? I think it might catch on.
Was introduced to the character in the unlimited show and have read about him since then, I like him better than rorsarch he's more of a nihilist while Vic is a conspiracy theorist
F**K me I'm excited for life after watching this segment. This kid is a Titan. I never knew what I was missing but goddamn Ewan did. Whoops.....dropped my Lithium.
Am I the only one who was stuck watching him put his hands together over and over again as he was talking? I could even pay attention I was to caught up by this
Ok so this trolo goes to the doctor for a prostate examination. The guy feels the gloved hand gently caresing his punished rectum and begins moaning. Since he began listening "mmmmmmmh"s and "aaaaaaaah"s, the doctor felt compelled to ask: "excuse me Hector, hoiw do you feel?" "Oooh doc, i feel in love"
Well, naturally! 52 was awesome. Charlie wasn't just bumped off in an offhand way; it was handled sensitively, it showed how he prepared himself and Renee for the handover, and Renee's version of the Question was consistent with this 'fallible hero' idea. And Charlie's words while delirious were heartbreaking.
Agreed! I went into 52 knowing beforehand of the new Question and hating the idea (mainly because I love Vic so much) but walked away with Renee easily being one of my favorite characters and story arcs of the entire series! Elongated Man also touched my feels.
It's like the Linkara review, really. "I'm (insert character name here). And I am awesome." The Elongated Man arc, too. We had no right to expect that to turn out as satisfyingly as it did! If one went with the (accurate, but nowhere near as nuanced as it should be) brief that Ralph's story deals with the Elongated Man post-Identity Crisis, and has an end result mandated by Dan DiDio, one could be forgiven for thinking it'd stink. But if anything it rescues the character from earlier cruddy plotting and gives him a brilliant jumping-off plot. For me, the real indicator of how well 52 was written is this. We start off chuckling at the Science Squad, because they're crazy awesome. Then we're horrified at what their work does to Khandaq, and Black Adam. And we cheer him as he starts to raid Oolong Island. And then we cheer the Science Squad as they go from understandable panic to knocking Adam down while barely working up enough of a sweat to fog their coke-bottle lenses. Huge mood whiplash, it'd stand out like a shit on a snooker table, if it weren't done so bloody well. But every reversal is handled skillfully.
Bro, I'm the same way, favorite character, and the best run of a comic ever (in my opinion), i used to run a comic book insta, and i became infamous among the other accounts for loving the character with a ferocity and trying to get everyone to read it all the time XD
Nothing, it's hard to talk about that without it being misconstrued because it's heavily covered in the context of the issue and was just a nice, fun inclusion of the character with a humorous jab at him with no seriousness behind it. I would recommend you read #17 on fullcomic.pro if you want to understand it, it's such a great series tbh
I would recommend you get solo issues instead of trades. I've managed to find almost all of them for $1 with the notable except of #17, which was $20 because it's a 9.2 and has Rorschach in it, just go to comic shops with older/$1 comics and it'll probably be there
You really cannot convey a video essay at all. You get lost in fancy hyperbole and dull tones. You stare blanky into the camera without any sort of charisma. This is the problem with Whatculture today. None and I mean NONE of your cast has any sort of charisma or charm to connect with a mass audience and they ultimately all just look like they are reciting someone’s word on a TelePrompTer while staring at the audience like braindead zombies. Redo this video with someone else and this guy crashed and burned on informing the audience of a rather intriguing and complex character like the question
What's the best DC comic you've never heard of? That's The Question.
Joe momma begins
If you've heard of Rorschach then you've heard of The Question.
Jay Lucien uh oh! Fell in love again!
What am I gonna tell my friends?
It just happened!
You came through my door!
I didn't...
I only knew who Rorschach was because of the watchmen movie.
True Rorsach was actually to be the Question
And if you have heard of Mr A then you've heard of The Question AND Rorschach
I went to a comic book shop in London called Forbidden Planet and managed to find 5 volumes of the Question for under £10, i was so happy on that day.
Liam Humphreys omg no way I did exactly the same that’s how I read it,they had deals on didn’t they.
@Osian Coleman, Yeah it was my 1st time there and i just managed to find them by accident
Was it worth it though?
Forbidden Planet is a pretty big company in the U.K. I'm surprised what you bought wasn't super overpriced either.
I appreciated you covering a comic you have a genuine passion for, even if it is not a very well known one.
I wish I could like this comment more than once :)
Honestly I'm of the opinion everyone knew or at least knew of the Question
Me too.
Me too.
Movement...
Brian Corr
yeah but he's someone you know of but not exactly known about.
Which is perfect for a conspiracy theorist detective.
I would disagree, a lot of comic fans are aware of it, but practically none have read it, and outside of comic fans, very few people know of him, despite JLU
I hate to get political, but "political corruption and extremism" sounds more modern day then just an 80s problem.
its really just and universal timeless promblem
Ohh yes..Question...love this character. Too bad DC never does something major with him.
Tora GuuMoonRyoung they rlly need to make a tv series
Agreed, agreed.
Tora GuuMoonRyoung glad someone does
They killed him and had Rene Montoya take over...
Dunno if you’ve heard but jeff lemire is gna do a four issue series on him for DC’s black label imprint
I have the entire run O'Neil/Cowan/Magyar run of the Question. Great Series
He's the best, went to comic con dressed as him years ago. I draw him all the time.
With all of the ridiculous conspiracy theories out there The Question could be a very relevant character right now, bonus points if he mocks flat earthers.
I am standing on it right now.
He's in Action Comics #1005, hoping to see more of him
@@gavinsmiley9377 exactly. Ever try to stand on a basketball though? Not quite as easy. +1 flat earth

Lady Shiva is one of the top 5 martial artists in DC but isn't Cassandra Cain and Karate Kid better than her?
Wolfram 1045 Cassandra is about equal to her
... or Batman?
@@jekblom123 no his hand to hand isn't as good
But he's Batman.
jekblom123 nah he isn’t as good I don’t think he’s just below he’s smarter than them though. Don't forget it continues as Question Quarterly for 5 more issues.
Mr.A - Ditko's true representation of objective philosophy
The Question - watered down Mr.A for DC
Rorschach - banana bonkers crazy version of Question
I like the Question when paired with The Huntress butting heads with Green Arrow, and Black Canary....these four deserve their own series
#reprintthequestion
It's when you have hunted every lead and squeezed the blood from every stone for answers, when you see no end in sight and your world is unraveling before you, then you ask... The Question.
I didn't know other people even read that series. It is truly a great series that is under appreciated.
So glad you've done a Question episode!
I own 28 (i think) comics from O'Neil's 36 issue original run I remember it being the one comic I was truly prepared to keep up with back in the day.
I've recently picked up the first 14 issues and am half way through. I'm eager to watch this video but want to read more before I continue on. Great stuff so far, boh the books and the video!

Lucifer Books 1,2,3,4,5 easily one of the best story i've ever read and soo underrated

I wholeheartedly agree with this video. The Questions comic run was masterfull

You can get this title on Amazon And Comixology digitally.
Its a shame its only single issues though. A bit pricey.

Loved before it will be cool because it should be considered a classic.
I feel like Gotham is the bend marker for how bad a city is, or is that just me?
Its the Detroit of the DC universe

How do we get DC to reprint this series¿

I'm surprised this man has time for making videos with the Skeleton Wars coming up
I heard of him since before I turned 20
i fully thought based on the thumbnail it was about lucifer lol
I love the Question
I actually bought it at the time of release.
Make The Question as a tv show
To read or not to read? That is the question.
