I'm always trying to stay positive but it helps to hear the guys with the knowledge to say the same. I just need to hear Gabe say "Help me understand" a few more times.
Targeting is called depending on who they want to win the game. Just like the offensive line holding call. Holding can be called on every play. Refs just choose to call it on big plays when the team they don't want to win makes a big play or scoring play.
With the talent and the size of PJ he has to take the next step to being elite this coming year. He has to have an elite production all season. PJ needs to be a Bosa for us
Im hoping im wrong but i get the gut feeling hes 1 of those freaks, athletic wise, but the motor and drive to be elite isnt equivalent to the athleticism
I had this thought last night… we all thought porter moser was fired after last year. We thought that program wouldn’t recover under him. Very similar to how we’re feeling with venables. Rightfully so for both. That said, porter somehow completely flipped the script and has his team in the top 10. Maybe with some hope and luck, Bv can do something similar. All we can do is hope and pray he doesn’t piss down his leg again this year. Seat’s hot Bv, go cool it off.
Well, I’m gonna buck the trend of negative Nancie’s in the comments section here and say that I for one am extremely glad to hear the D line is still on an upward trend. Cause everything on defense starts there. I’m excited about Arbuckle, and John Mateer. I have watched enough football to know what a massive difference it makes to have a “dude” at quarterback! It lifts everyone.
Mateer is an unknown. With the level of competition he played, any decent qb would look that good. That said, he played in that last game of the season… 14 points against a 3-9 team? That’s our savior of the program??? Idk man.
This year's playoff games make me wonder if a bye is the reward it's played up to be? The teams that didn't play last week looked generally rusty. And if a team was playing this week and didn't have a bye they are coming off a hugely important win, and momentum surely matters.
Everyone freaks out about getting people from smaller colleges and FCS…don’t you remember that, prior to the portal, almost all transfer players came from JUCO? Some of our best players were JUCO transfers, so why is it that all the sudden everyone thinks that productive players stepping up from lower levels are trash? Is it because one of them didn’t work out last year (Bauer)? I mean we pulled kids from FBS as well that weren’t great (Spencer)…The reason some really good players came from JUCO in the past is that many of these kids are not ready to play big time football at 18 years old, they have to learn and develop. And clearly some kids who appear to be ready for big time football out of high school actually aren’t (JA) and could’ve probably used some time starting at a smaller school to get the bugs worked out. Chill out about the small school transfers. Sometimes a couple years in JUCO or FCS is exactly what a teenager needs to get ready to hit it big at FBS.

I know people are upset about not going after every $5 million portal guy out there but us being able to retain the entire defense, the starters, is damn impressive after a year like we just had much less any year in the portal era. That is not cheap especially when you’re talking about one of the best defenses in CFB this next year. The other thing people need to accept is that we do t have the same type of money as tOSU or Oregon or Texas. Thats just reality yet people want us to go after all of the players they are. How many elite offensive guys want to come to OU after this last year, regardless of the change at OC and QB. We are, BV is, having to do more with less and regardless of who the HC is at OU they will have the same challenges that BV does with funding. I listened to a guy who is a mod for rivals, say on his podcast that we are only $4-$5 million off of what those schools are and so it’s not that bad at all. Maybe not when looking at the entire landscape of CFB but do you realize the kind of players we could go get if we had $5 million more to spend on players. So many fans are acting like BV has all of this money available to him and he is just deciding to go after cheaper players. Everyone would love to drive a Lamborghini but most people can’t. You only have so much money and even though we have a lot it’s just not at a UT level. You shouldn’t expect it to be when they have 2-3x’s the alumni and BMD base. So everyone either needs to accept those facts or they need to pony up some big time money. Either way people need to live in reality and quit having expectations that are just not real. Look what Oregon did last night and they have an open checkbook and can pay any player what they want. It didn’t help them last night yet everyone would trade BV for Lanning in a heartbeat. I love Lanning too but if he’s getting whooped like that with an open checkbook what would he be doing at Oklahoma with significantly less NIL funds available to him? So live in reality or don’t but reality is what it is so you might as well accept it or donate an amount of money that makes a difference. We have to utilize the funds we have in the best way possible. Keeping every player, elite player from defense is how they decided to spend most of those funds. When you don’t have the money that some schools do then it’s evaluations and development that matters and keeping productive guys in the program has to be Oklahomas recipe for success. It’s always been that way since the Switzerland days and back then we were leading the way when it came to breaking the rules. Times have changed
On the targeting, I've read: 1) Can't be defenseless player due to ball being tipped. 2) Taffe did not jump or lung. It was helmet to helmet, but that alone is not targetting. I don't know, I thought it should have been called. But also so should the hit on Bond, the way Skattebo was pulled into the end zone was illegal, there were men downfield on the 2 point conversion in the endzone, DPI on the Skattebo catch wasn't a good call, etc. Lots of misses also, that one play isn't the reason in a game like this.
Air raid offenses are awesome if the WRs can actually CATCH the ball……..if they don’t get on the Jugs (on high) all offseason, it won’t be an “Air Raid Offense” at all. They’ll have to start running the triple option (without the pass option).
The portal + nil is bad for CFB. Coaches not only have to recruit HS players, but have to re-recruit their entire team every single year. Then they have to get collectives and other people involved in the conversation as well, just so that their own players won’t jump ship.

That’s a more than solid with a potential to be an elite starting group at DB. I know most don’t feel and see it but you guys are right on where I have been. Lmao agreed!
Yes, and we might win 11. I believe 9 or more.
@@jimmycutter4307 if we win 11 games it'll be bc (Lord forbid) bv dies before the season starts... I hate to be so negative but I'm done with bv he has thoroughly proven that he ain't it!
A winning season would be a welcome breath of fresh air for OU Football.
Ranking OU Coaches in order...top to bottom:
1. Patty Gasso
2. Mark Williams
3. Jennie Baranczyk
4. Porter Moser
5. K. J. Kindler
6. Brent Venables
get used to 6-6 season until BV is gone. I think they will be lucky to get to 6-6 next year tbh
My favorite part, the discussion on Baker and the Browns. I laughed so loud.
