Related to turning down the battle effects, there's a graphics setting I recommend turning off: Radial Blur. It's that annoying distortion effect on some spells like RDM Impact and BLM Fire IV that momentarily blurs everything to make the effect look more intense. I was getting frequent headaches while playing years ago, but the moment I turned this off, the headaches stopped.

If you play with a controller you can assign macro 98 and 99 to the stick buttons. I have mines set up so my right stick button uses sprint and my left stick will target my focus target (useful for targetting tanks in dungeons or bosses in raids/trials).

Limited battle effects all the way!!
I played up to Shadowbringers with full effects on and it was fine, but once you get to the lvl90 raids, it's literally mandatory.
My first case was in Aglaia when I literally could not see the boss hitbox to find the safe spots and do positionals, true nightmares and highly recommended to limit them, so you at least see yours. :)

If you want to check if you have 100% spirit bond with any items on you, but don't want to go into your armory chest/inventory, go into your actions (P or U on keyboard I believe) and look for an action labeled material extraction, use it, you can even put it on your bar, it will show all your items in one menu and floats the highest spirit bond items to the top of the list.
Don't like where the duty actions are at on your screen? Their is an action in your action menu for that too! So you can put duty actions right on your bar!
Need to craft a lot of something but don't know how much stuff it will take? right click it in the crafting menus and click "show raw material" play with the amount to see what your missing and by how much.
if an ability or action puts in the ground targeting mode, you can normally put it in a macro with a after it and it will be placed on who or what ever your actually targeting. I personally use this for caster LB. like the "/ac "Limit Break" " You can also use /facetarget for abilities that depend on where your facing. like Physical ranged LB
    /facetarget
    /ac "limit break"

5:30 new players PSA for expert deliveries you will have to complete your company hunting log (not job hunting log) to access this feature. I HIGHLY recommend doing this as the paltry amount of gil received for just vendoring pinks, greens, and blues is nothing compared to what your retainers can get for you via quick exploration by purchasing "ventures" from your grand company with the IMMENSE amount of grand company seals you will receive.

1:55 I recommend rightclicking the dummies from your enemy list, than approaching each target individually. Saves you time (and sanity) when there's some distance, or you don't know where the aggroed dummy is.
4:20 /random is only /say chat, but with /dice it puts into your current chat or any other you specify.
    e. g. /dice party 20 ; other chats available: party, alliance, fc, pvpteam / pt, linkshell1-8 / ls1-8, cwlinkshell1-8 / cwl1-8
For total info, you can call up help text with "/? /dice"
7:10 /e is enough, if you don't feel like writing 3 more letters :)
7:49 You can also rename the friend group, like "kitties", "dummies" or any other fun(ny) names, by rightclicking on friend group in the list when assigning.
I recommend going through your system and character configurations. There's a ton of options, but you may be surprised how much less headache you can set for yourself!
Also read the patch notes. SE often includes new QoL-stuff, and you will NOT be notified about it ingame! Especially each major patch (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, ...)

As a new player who is maining the PS5 version, this came into my recommended at the perfect time. Not that easy to aim at enemies with controller but it's doable, but that feature is definitely a must use, makes life easier, and then if you need to aim at a specific target, it's just L1 with Up or Down on the D-Pad.
This wasn't mentioned and I understand not many can have ideal space for a Keyboard, but if Keyboard is just not an option, I'd say try to get used to the Motion Sensor for typing on Controller, it's a lot faster than typing with the D-Pad to navigate keys once you get the hang of it (will have to calibrate once in a while as it will sometimes drift but that's the only tiny drawback).

It's not a perfect solution, but you can use a macro to solve this. Say you want to cast Broil but don't want to deselect your tank:
      /micon "Broil"
      /cast "Broil"
      /cast "Broil
The selection is "target's target", so 99.9% of the time, that'll be the boss.
Biggest downside is that macros don't function with auto target, so you have to pick one or the other, sadly.

I can keep my main jobs on a bar but quickly switch to anything and even keep the gearset window open on the side. Way less clunky and convenient.
As a bonus, I also use “/autosheathe off” without quotes to stop my character from putting the weapon away after every fight. Much more immersive for me.

Lovely vid as usual! Here's the "EUREKA Macro" a friend gave me when I joined FFXIV - so called because in Eureka, you're not just dealing with 24 players, but up to 100+ in the same area! It'll melt your CPU if you don't do something. Name them what you will, but I like to call them "Sound On" and "Sound off"
Sound on means all FX and Volume are at 100% (I actually adjust this one myself to 80% volume and customized the icon with "examine self" instead. Any emote can be used)
    /micon "Yes" emote
    /bfx party all
    /bfx other all
    /soundeffectsparty 100
    /soundeffectsother 100
This is the "Sound Off" I use the Tomestone emote, but that is only if you have the SQEX app for 2F login, again, use what you want. Yes and No are just the easiest to use her imho.
    /micon "No" emote
    /bfx party simple
    /bfx other off
    /soundeffectsparty 50
    /soundeffectsother 20
I have both these macros on a click only hotbar, leaving FX on while I'm not in duties. This saves me having to toggle through endless menus to toggle fx and volume manually. :)

Another thing that I see people miss all the time is the fact that you don't have to right-click a person's name then click "Send tell" to type a dedicated message to someone, every. Single. Time. You can just do that once and immediately press Enter to create a dedicated chat to the player you want to send a tell to. I was told this tip very early on, and I've been abusing it to spam my friends with messages and they cannot keep up with me sometimes, so I tell them this tip... so they can :D

I have played FFXIV for years. Still play on a day 1 retail account. Though I didn't play for more than a few days at release because.. well.. you know the rest.
I've never played for the battle system. That's an inconvenience that I suffer, to allow me to enjoy the other stuff like running around and crafting/gathering etc.
BUT.. The day the actual battles and dungeons etc. became tolerable for me, was the day that I decided to experiment with a 'target forward' action button on my crossbar.
I only really played Archer/Bard for the first few years. Because that was for me the most 'button masher' friendly job. (if it's flashing HIT IT! basically lol)
That target forward button made it so that I could pick and choose targets with much more ease than trying to manually select stuff with left and right or indeed the mouse as you say.

8:04 min.: really useful tips to be honest. but I already knew almost all of it xD I've been playing for 3 or so years and had to take a forced break for 2 years because the client simply didn't want to update. I fixed it and am currently catching up. The only thing I didn't know was about the friend groups and the automatic target. only the automatic target brings me anything tbh. So thank you anyway. hope you all have a great day.

There are even more quality of life things to know about FF14 and that is Hud Layout, you can have 4 different ones
And you can change between them with macros.
So now you can have one Hud Layout for combat, one for crafters, one for gatherers, and one for whatever you want, with macros you can switch between these very fast and you don't have to have a cluttered UI because of this.
The macro for this is /hudlayout #
    So /hudlayout 1, /hudlayout 2, /hudlayout 3 and /hudlayout 4.
This will improve your FF14 experience so much more(and I just found out about this TODAY xD and I have played FF14 since 1.0 on and off).
So now I am going to change my UI and hotbars and Hud Layout to suit everything :D

    • @-Boone

I don't think you can permanently turn them off, but if they're in the way when trying to select an aetherite, try holding Ctrl. Can't remember exactly what it did but either temporarily removes icons or brings the aetherite icon to the top. Been awhile since I needed to use it but it was helpful when my map was littered with unfinished quests.

    • @Gravewhisper
      @Gravewhisper Год назад +2

@@-Boone it only highlights the aetheryte. So far nothing removes the green quest icons. They just can be annoying when they overlay other things, or when you're looking for a map location.

There are heaps of things the game doesn't teach you until you randomly come across it sometimes.
