Kentucky
You are the dearest land outside of heaven to me
Kentucky
I miss your laurels and your redbud trees
When I die,
I want to rest upon a graceful mountain so high
For that is where God will look for me
Kentucky
I miss the old folks singing in the silvery moonlight
Kentucky
I miss the hound dogs chasin coons
I know that
My mother, dad and sweetheart are waiting for me
Kentucky
I will be coming soon
Kentucky
The tone of the voices, phrasing , intonation, diction etc. is absolutely stunning. That's Don playing the guitar.
No one does this song better than the Everly Brothers 🎶👍
Tears in my eyes. Simple perfection 👌
The Everly Brothers taught everyone else true harmony. None better. Love their music still. RIP Phil.
Kentucky it's beautiful land and wonderful humble people is a jewel.I'm proud to live here. This song is really special.
Me too, Kentucky and Everly brothers proud!
I’ve heard several versions of this song but this one is by far my favorite. I like the very minimal accompaniments in it. It really highlights Don’s and Phil’s voices and their gorgeous harmonies.
Love the Everly Brothers!!
@@maxbrooks7545 They’re the best!!
Absolutely beautiful..
so good.
Pure Bliss, this version is better than the published take, which is more upbeat, great song by the best in the business.
Just gorgeous. Nearly all their songs give me goosebumps but this one is a stunner.
Best harmonies ever. Can’t imagine anyone else but the Everly Bros singing Kentucky. Superb!
Very spiritual. I love this song. Makes me want to visit there.
me to feel so bonded to them even from here in New Zealand saw vido clip of there gravesite hope Don went back home to
This was always my favourite Everly song-the harmonies are perfect.
I recall seeing and interview with Waddy Wachtel. Waddy was a tour musician with the Everly Brothers for sometime. Waddy told a story of how he would cry every time they did this song. It affected him so deeply. I feel that way too.
Waddy was/is different. A fine artist who played with a lot of different people.
Two of the few all-time greats.
I think that this song is my favourite Everly track. Beautiful harmonies. We will not see their like again. I found a family photo which was taken on the day this song was recorded in 1958. Amazing!
mine too
Terrific! The backing is so minimal it's almost acapella!
JULY 28, 2022. - a prayer for Kentucky - THE RIVER HAS RISEN 12 FEET in 12 HOURS. MANY people are stranded on the rooves of their houses. God Bless DON AND PHIL. and GOD BLESS KENTUCKY
What can I say...? Absolutely sublime harmonising. Thanks for posting this. RIP Phil.
Music doesn't get any better that this. So sublime!
The Osborne Brothers also do an excellent brother duet of this song. The harmonies of the Everly Brothers are out of this world. Would love to hear the EB do this with some fiddle and mandolin behind them!
If your a Kentuckian, this song is beyond special it's divine, love this song nonpareil!
I'm a Minnesotan and I love this song as much as any Kentuckian!!! There harmony elevates any song they do!!!
R.I.P., Don & Phil ♥️
Die zwei haben wunderschöne Lieder gesungen schade dass einer schon tot ist bin sehr traurig
So many memories evoked when listening once again to the unique brotherly harmonizing of the Everlys! . A fact: The Beatles were known as the "English Everlys" in their British beginnings. The brothers paved the way! God rest Phil! Thank you Everlys for the memories and the ever memorable songs and singing!
I visited Kentucky for about 2 weeks, and saw so much beauty and history! I will never forget, and someday will go back. I hated to leave.
Kentucky. .R.I.P. EVERLY.BROTHERS.im from Kentucky
One of my favourites...Perfect harmony!!!
Love this music. Good voices, not a lot of unbearable noise!
So Amazing ...i'm a huge everly fan since my teenage years btw i was born 1986 so i'm a everly baby
Huanting but beautiful
Just Beautiful, these two have the greatest voices and harmonies that I have ever heard, love it, thanks for posting this one !!!
Their sweet rendition of this old tune, along with superb harmonizing, just opens the door and invites you in.......4 Ever Everly.......
This song is so beautiful makes tears come down even if you don't want to. Love these guys forever.
I never heard this version by Phil and Don. Must be semi-rare.
It reflects their origins in the hamlet of Brownie, KY, where a demo record played on the jukebox of their Aunt Dimples restaurant.
Amazing sound from everly s great
beautiful, what a nice song by the everlys , lots of memories there for sure,, thanks for posting.....
Alles ist gesagt. Ich liebe dieses Lied und die Sänger ebenso. Danke fürs teilen. Mein Herz fühlt sich gut mit dieser Harmonie
Mary, Ike and Phil are sleepin' there 💕💙🌺
Sublime harmony, and Don’s youthful deep voice sends shivers….
Kentucky loves the Everly brothers!! I remember watching them sing this on Johnny Cashs Christmas special. Still a favorite of mine, Merry Christmas from Kentucky
Voices which resonate with time,
treasures which do not fade,
memories blessed with harmony!
Glenn
Totally- and this song has the sincerity and power that only comes from singing about the place that is home
Steve V Thanks for your comments, Steve! My father was born in Kentucky and my grandparents were raised there. This song honors the beauty and graciousness of that State via the timeless harmonies of the Everly Brothers.

***** I passed through Kentucky a couple of times when I lived in the States for a short while- loved it, green clean, wholesome, and the place where when people ask how you are, they genuinely are interested in the answer not just performing a ritual. The whole world should be a bit more like Kentucky.
Damn! They are just such damn sublime harmony singers...taking up the tiniest bit of free space available within their flush, rich voices to counter each other perfectly.
As amazing as this version is, the LIVE take from 1968 on RUclips is even better!
Brooding, dark, longing and stark...
They could make the heart feel as warm as possible with their angelic voices...even when singing about loss, pain, sadness...
"Christmas Eve Can Kill You" anyone?!
Boa
I love this version of this song. thanks for posting.
I do not have the ability to express how I feel after listening to this recording I truly wish I had .
Very beautiful!!
Sublime harmony❤️
So good, so dammed good. All of these two.
Love the Kentucky Boys!

I just love this song takes me back to the fifties
Beautiful. I am a fan of Bluegrass music and thought the "Osbourne Brothers" were the original singers of this song. Had no idea the "Every Brothers" did it first. Thanks for sharing.
+SpikeandCrownTV This song is on an E.B. record "Songs our Daddy Taught Us", so it was done before them.....
SpikeandCrownTV the original version i believe goes back to the Louvin Brothers many years before the Osbourne Brothers
I look forward to the day that I can visit Kentucky, meet the people, see the sights, hear the music and possibly join in if I take my guitar.Visit where Paradise and Brownsville once lay--we have "Opencast Mining"near to where I live in Coalville-Leicestershire,and I love John Prides' song "Paradise".
WOW Erik!!
How can two people hamonize so beautifully?
Genetics plays a huge part.
Divine inspiration? Especially considering they often didn't get along.
yup, blood harmony
Just cool
incredible...
Lovely...Shared on Google+
From the album Songs our Father taught us. On LP and CD.
That is where God will look for me.
Wohh, wat a great song
Every day i listen to this lovely peace of harmonious and sentimentel music by Phil and Don.
Can somebody tell how Don is these days?
Please translate. What is the reference to Mick Jagget?
love it something special about the older versions pretty real
FANTASTIC!
Beautiful........
My pal and I wrote recorded a song called "Oh! Kentucky". I feel it was inspired by this song. Please give it a listen. Google won't allow me to paste a link but It's on Soundcloud.
love it
That tambourine or whatever percussion instrument vitiates the Everly's harmony.
I believe it is not a tambourine, some other type of hand percussion.
Is that the coke bottle and screwdriver ?
Just listened to Take a message to Mary and Felice Bryant said they had used a coke bottle and screwdriver ! Sounds so like the percussion on this wonderful version of Kentucky
Sounds like a typewriter
Tony Hayward From Torquay 2018
Hey what is the state song of Kentucky anyway, if this isn't it, It should be.
I do
Beautiful rendition, but there's a "Somebody" who has to be in on the act with that annoying tambourine!
@lejeune1945 The thing is - he's miles out of time too ahhhhhh lol.
Check out The Blue Sky Boys' version of this song. :-)
I did. Everly Brothers harmony is better.
One of the fun things about The Blue Sky Boys is that when they go slightly off-key, they do it in perfect harmony. It's quite spectacular and memorable, really... :-) They had a different harmony range than the Everleys, but still perfect, (generally).
The Everleys had the benefit of better recording studios, and probably the time to do a lot of re-takes, which I don't think the Blue Sky Boys did.

Tem tradição pra português????
