Yes, but the really big news is how Jonathan Atkins and his team have built an old-school 1st generation iron small block ( aftermarket of course, probably a Dart block is my guess ) @ 348 cu. in. with a single turbo and STICK SHIFT that runs right with all of these big block twin turbo automatics, and even beats them in some runs ( actually, most runs.) Jonathan broke the old stick shift record ( 6.81 ) something like 6 times in this event, and his quickest pass of 6.61 @ 216 mph beat the old record by a whopping 2/10's of a second. That is insane. Definitely the biggest news of this entire event.........even though Cleetus won the overall event in his 2 classes with the El Camino. With cars going THIS quick, ya just don't normally see stick shift cars running heads up races against automatics. But here we are. 2 years ago, nobody would've believed what we all just witnessed at FL2K22.
@@howabouthetruth2157 The big difference here is in the weight. Mullet probably weighs a good 800+ pounds more than the Grubb Worm, purely down to the extra parts needed to make a 220+ MPH drag car reliable enough to drive 1000 miles without any issues. Cleetus' single biggest disadvantage from a racing perspective in this case is that he could just drive Mullet home if he wanted to.
@@griffinfaulkner3514 "The extra parts needed".....what the hell are you talking about. Mullet IS A TRUCK......and it took much more tubular framing to reach that TRUCK'S long wheel base. @@howabouthetruth2157 You're putting words in my mouth. Yes, they need a few minutes to lash the valves for street use, but the dual fuel system is already in place, and automatically switches over to methanol when it sees boost. That's what causes the little hiccup when he initially gets on the trans brake. As for the weight, if Mullet were to completely abandon any sort of street utility, they could rip out several hundred pounds just by ditching the radiator, switching to CO2 boost control instead of the compressor-driven pneumatic system currently in place, and removing the pump gas side of the fuel system. It wouldn't put it right at the weight of Grubb Worm, but it's still a massive difference. I also wouldn't really call an El Camino a truck.
