@2:21 - you should not say what Grigori feels or thinks. If Grigori thinks or feels something, he will say it. Until then, he is his own man. The rest is silly conjectures.
I read he didn't say anything about proving the conjecture with this and he left it to others to see what was or was not done by him.
I respect his meekness and think he should be left to what helps him produce what he produces and that's it.
This video is a testament to exactly what Perelman does not want and so I feel it is disrespectful. Perelman could be spoken about without so many gratuitous photos.
If he wants to wait for history to celebrate his image, then I think we should honor that. Because I like Perelman too and I listened to what he said.

He saw a perversion of the craft and the systematic dehumanizing of the craft for ulterior motives. He knew how dark and evil it was in academia, and he rightfully wanted nothing to do with that nonsense. Accepting the fields medal would give him more trouble down the road than it was worth.

Poor people lead a very tough life in that part of the world.

This is not sad or any other description 'we' can think of. The human mind may express itself in any way it is most comfortable with. not just math. the mind of such an expressive person is not like ours, it may not seek any material satisfaction, nor any fading celebratory recognition.

    2:26
the aspect of fields of study not taking new ideas into consideration likely plagues nearly every field of study. historians don't want their conventional narratives challenged. doctors often don't want to try new treatments (for instance people were developing immunotherapies for cancer as early as the 1920's, but it has only recently began to be take seriously), archeologists clung to the clovis first dogma for decades despite it being demonstrably false and suppressed research that would challenged it (as well as continuing to reject the idea of an ice age civilization to this day), the economics profession still largely clings to pseudo-intellectual keynesianism, etc.
so this doesn't surprise me. hopefully the internet will allow us to develop knowledge in an open transparent and peer to peer fashion, and we can disregard the hindrance of instructional academia

The adulation of Perelman as some sort of righteous mystic is misplaced....His various refusals have al the earmarks of fanaticism...at the least, neuroticism. He could have, just as a 'for instance', accepted the money...and given it away to those who did need it. He could have accepted the awards with a simple, 'Thank you'...and left it at that. Apparently, his 'genius' didn't see far enough to foresee that his refusals would involve him in another sort of fame...and which was inevitable. It all reminds me of a line from 'Lord Jim': 'You have too much pride in your humility'.
