As someone who went almost 20 years before going to the dentist as an adult, I had to go through this myself. Its had and the fear is real. I had 4 extractions 6 fillings and a root canal with a crown lengthening surgery and 2 crowns. But its not the end of the world, its the beginning.
@@letsgoalready5515 Not sure if u know, but they make different kinds of floss to get into different areas of your mouth. You can use straight floss wrapped around your fingers, or u can use a pic. For those unfamiliar, it's floss attached to little plastic pics. They look like little hand saws or a "C" Clamp! 😂 Not sure where u live either. I'm in US and Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree (and probably any drugstore) sells them by the bag. I'm currently having similar dental problems and I floss every single day (probably several times). The brand I'm using is called "Plackers" and it's very easy to get into back teeth w/them. Also, to brush around back teeth, only use soft/med bristled toothbrush. Buy one w/longer bristles at head/top of toothbrush. This helps it get into/around back teeth specifically. Glad you're getting tended to and hope this helps u find something that works for u. Ppl have made jokes on/of those w/ jacked or missing grills for...Idk, probs ever, but definitely for many, many yrs. However nowadays, when everything about a person is based on looks, losing your teeth can cause extreme anxiety & depression. It can be so incredibly debilitating,

It's always so nice to see these patients realize that it's not supposed to hurt when you go to the dentist. Other than the first needle with anesthesia and having to keep your mouth open for a long time, it feels great getting your teeth fixed and having any previous aches you may have felt go away.
I know exactly how she feels and how the young man feels. Lost all of my teeth at the age of 28. It was heartbreaking. I was embarrassed and disgusted with myself and was also afraid of dentures.I caused this. I am now 29 and have had dentures for 6 months now and I am so happy with how beautiful and real they look.
My grandma lost all her teeth at a young age too (early 20's!) and she's 90 now and her teeth look very natural and she doesn't seem to have any pain or issues with them. I don't know if she has dentures or an implant, but whatever they are, they're working for her!
@@kwiin2022 genetics are huge when it comes to the health of your teeth. i happen to be extremely lucky and i naturally have incredibly healthy and white teeth, but there’s people who do much better dental care than i do and have it worse. if your parents have a history of this, and lose their teeth at a certain age, you’re very likely to experience the same thing. dental care only slows that process slightly, it’s inevitable.
I struggle heavily with depression, and the first thing to go for me when I lack on caring for myself is brushing my teeth. I once went to a dentist and told them and they kinda sneered at me and told me to try floss picks. It scared me from going back to the dentist for a year, but I went back last week and my hygienist was the kindest woman, who also struggled with mental health and understood my issues. I promise it’s okay. You just have to take that first step and find an understanding dental office. Taking care of your teeth helps you take care of the rest of your body. There are even apps that make brushing enjoyable instead of a chore! You can do this!
I'm a dental hygienist (20 years) and I have struggled with my own mental health. We "dental people" are humans, too! Unfortunately, patients are right, and there can be judgement in some offices, and patients can feel it (I've worked in offices like this and it was NOT for me). I would tell anyone feeling judged to leave and find a different office. The right office is one where you're treated with compassion. It might take some time to find your "dental home", but I promise it's worth it. When you finally get the courage to walk through the door, we're really glad to see you! And we just want to help. The first step is the hardest. I'm so glad to see you're doing better, OP, and that you found an office to take good care of you.
Yeah, my severe depression stops me from caring about myself & meditation can cause a big issues. I always looked after my teeth as kid, teen & young adult. My smile was beautiful & lit up the room. I'm a nervous patient because my childhood dentist filled deep cavities with no numbing at all. But I go. Every six months. My teeth are definitely not American white, but they are mine.
Thousands of dollars for my dentist in America to pull out my wisdom teeth with pliers. He broke a neighbouring tooth in half in the process, and charged more to fix it... In Taiwan, my dentist performs a root canal for just $6 USD and pulls a tooth for the same price while not breaking any neighbouring teeth lol
@@CaptainsMorning , Since your dentist broke your tooth then he should have fixed it for free. That's absolutely ridiculous. Sorry that happened to you.
@@Suzanimal_316 should have, but didn't. Because of him, I'll never trust an American dentist. Too risky in my mind. Sorry to any dentists in America who are actually honest and good to their patients, I do know they exist! I'm just not willing to take chances.
okay let's drop the stigma that dentures are "only for old people". it's simple thoughts like that that can stop people in the younger gen wanting to fix their teeth out of fear of "looking old", but it's definitely worth getting your teeth pulled out if it means you won't have any health complications later on in life because you delayed getting treatment. don't be afraid to get your teeth fixed if you can afford it! even if you have to travel somewhere else, do it! take the opportunity! your mouth will thank you. I wanted to add: I've heard complications can include anything from mouth infections; impacted teeth; to even worse cases such as heart disease and alzheimer's...so please, take care of yourselves as soon as y'all possibly can!!!
I had my teeth pulled at 28. After a decade of root canals, caps, fillings, extractions...I gave up. They just got worse and worse and the pain was agonizing. I got removable dentures and I'm SO happy. I do not regret it ever. No one knows and I'm 37 now. They don't just "fall out" if they fit right. Eating certain things can be a challenge, but I can eat almost anything I want without any trouble. I love my dentures, am thankful for them and never having to worry about excruciating pain that pops up on a Friday night knowing dentists are closed on the weekend, or that the extraction doctor isn't available anywhere. And I have a pretty smile now. I recommend it, a million times over.
In the old days medieval to Victorian Times people died from teeth. That's right: their death certificate read "teeth". the tooth infection from an abscess spread to their brain, heart or lungs or other organs or blood and killed them. I think about that and the pain every time I find myself slacking on oral hygiene or going too long without seeing the dentist. The. Pandemic has been a great excuse not to see mine hut when restrictions were lifted I booked an appointment straight away!
One of my friends from high school had dentures to replace her top adult teeth that never came in. Dentures are not just for old people, they are for everyone who needs them and can really bring back confidence.
Hey remember to floss your teeth. Flossing gets all of the plaque inbetween the teath which helps prevent cavity's between the teeth as well as gum recession, and tooth loss.
It depends. My gums are sensitive so flossing is actually bad for me as it'd more often than not leave my gums irritated and swollen. I prefer mouthwash over flossing and I only floss when I feel like I have something stuck between my teeth that I couldn't get out with electric toothbrush and mouthwash :/
Also if your gums bleed and or get inflamed you might have gum disease or you might not be flossing regularly so your gums need time to get use to it make sure to brush twice a day once in the morning and once at night and floss once at night.
lol, don't do that. That's like polishing a car for 97 hours straight...you'd have no paint left! Twice a day, some floss, and a good diet is all that is needed ( : Aggressive brushing leads to loss of the periodontal tissues, exposure of the cementum and an increased likelihood of root caries. ) :
your gums would disintegrate and bleed then your teeth would lose 2 millimeters of cementum and exposing the roots due to erosion. brushing your teeth for 97 hours is most definitely not a good idea

Losing a tooth is pretty devastating news because it is apart of you and you don't realize it until the tooth is gone. Losing all your upper teeth has to be even worse and more heartbreaking.
Try all the tops and bottoms two months before you turn 35.... bruxism and a car accident. Ting is when I turned 34 all of my teeth seemed fine that started coming apart in my mouth while I was 34 I would wake up with bits of tooth in my mouth every morning.

Killed me as a Hygienist how he didn’t include flossing in the research 😭 it’s so freaking crucial. You could brush all day but never reach under the gum like floss can
Yup flossing makes a huge difference. I used to have gingivitis when I was 13 and I started to floss even though my gums would bleed, over time as I kept flossing my gums felt and looked better. They’re healthy with no gingivitis.

As a dentist's wife in America, new parents need to understand the value of flossing and brushing right after that first little tooth grows. Doing so creates that essential habit for as long as your child's will remember. You don't need to force the floss perfectly between the gums and tooth, You're just getting them feel a normal, healthy habit.

The person who answers will take the first five callers for a potential afternoon appointment- but only for a quick evaluation. If that person has a dental problem that the volunteer dentist of the week feels that can repair, the appointment is made for the following Thursday. The patient has to show a W2 and any paperwork if they receive food stamps or any other benefits. Then, the lucky 3 patients of the week get to come back one full week later to hopefully get treated. I'm starting my studies to become a dentist this October, and I can't wait to help people with their teeth, which is such an underrated part of our body. I really want to show people that there is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of
13:30 he's saying all you need to do is brush good two times a day, but you also NEED to floss. You need to floss every night and you need to floss correctly to avoid cavities between your teeth.
The British Dental Association and the NHS both consider flossing to be of little value unless you have extremely tight together teeth, which isn’t a common problem in GB.
@@kateh6706 strange. If you are already in the early stages of gum disease, there is a lot of loose tissue for bacteria and food to get trapped under, which flossing helps to remove. Do they at least recommend a waterpik?
@@the_rachel_sam nope. The British dental association doesn’t recommend any kind of flossing at all. Most people floss incorrectly and they can actually cause more damage than it helps in some cases. Again we Americans tend to have tighter teeth that are closer together so flossing is more important for us.
@@nala3055 they don’t consider it super beneficial to encourage every patient to floss daily. Americans have tighter teeth and that is more of a reason to floss, but also a lot of people floss incorrectly which can do more harm than good in some cases.
My mom have a HUGE fear of losing her teeth because her mother ( my grandma ) lost all her teeth due a problem, that I think can be genetic if you don’t brush your teeth properly- And this is so WOW, she would cry and scream if she saw this video And I’m not even joking, when my dad left her, she didn’t cry, but when she broke her teeth while eating an apple she cried FOR HOURS.
We just now got this video from Britain. A lot of people don't know that the reason Bobby Darin ("Mac The Knife") died so young in 1973 was from not taking antibiotics prior to having dental work in late 1973 to protect his already weak heart from the tooth decay infection in his mouth. The infection caused sepsis, a strong blood infection which spread to his heart, weakening it further. In December 1973 he went to the hospital to have necessary surgery to repair two previously damaged heart valves, but his heart was now too weak to take the surgery. He never woke up from recovery. He was 37.
My former boss is from the UK and hadn’t been to the dentist in 35 years.... she finally went recently and they told her it’s gonna take $22,000 to fix them all.
That's insane. I went to uni in the UK in 2001 and they made all of us university students go to the dentist for free every 6 months! From 19-24 I had free dental care and my half in half out 4 wisdoms removed for free. People say going to uni is a waste but it clearly save me a fortune in dental bills and dental pain. I'm nearly 40 and I've continued see the dentist every 6-9 even in the pandemic. Clearly your boss missed that memo at Uni about going to the dentist.
So sad that the lady felt she needed to glue her teeth back in, but good for her for facing her fear and getting help. Although I don’t understand why anyone goes on shows like this!
she probably got the treatment for free from going on the show. dentistry is incredibly expensive and i doubt she would have been able to afford it otherwise.
Also a good method, which they didn't mention, if you have no milk around, is to spit in a clean cup and keep the tooth in that spit. Usually it'll be mixed with blood though and not very nice to hold. But it also works. Maybe unnecessary to mention, it needs to be the spit of the tooth-loss-victim.
I have once had an experience with a dentist that scarred me. I have anxiety already and that made it worse. But I went back and found a new dentist. I don’t think some of these people realize that it’s all about finding the right dentist. The first couple visits with my current dentist, I was having panic attacks and crying the whole way through. But they were calm and patient with me. I still don’t like the dentist, but my current dentist really helped my fears. And pain is something you have to go through to get good teeth. So it’s really all about how you clean your teeth, and the dentist. There are good dentists out there. And some people just have to find the right one :)
So proud of Denise! A beautiful smile for a beautiful woman. I too had to deal with losing my teeth. It was scary at first, but now I have a better smile then I did and I don’t have pain anymore. God bless you Denise! You are courageous‼️
Congratulations to you for overcoming your fears, and just getting on with it. That fear immobilizes you, and so you do nothing. It’s AMAZING isn’t it, to have a great smile AND take care of your teeth. My dentist: If you want to keep your teeth, brush every night. If you want to keep your friends, brush every morning! 😁
To prevent cavities, you need to remove plaque, the transparent layer of bacteria that coats the teeth. The best way to do this is by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Brushing also stimulates the gums, which helps to keep them healthy and prevent gum disease.

My experience with dentists is the snobby attitude when there's a problem. They don't treat you like an adult, instead they talk down to you like a naughty child.
My first dentist was not great (talked down to me, made fun of me for being nervous, etc.) but my new dentist is awesome! Really nice guy, makes sure you have enough freezing, etc.
My first dentist was pretty rude, I was 4. I got strapped down in a hospital like bed with no decor except 2 photos in the procedure room. & they never let the moms go in the room with the child, so I felt very separated. That's how I got my dental phobia,
I am so happy for these people getting their teeth fixed. I can't imagine how liberating they must feel. Losing teeth is one of my biggest fears. So much so that I have a very long and strict mouth cleaning regimen 😅
Brushing for 2 minutes effectively with fluoride toothpaste is a must, but how did he not mention flossing? A toothbrush can’t get in between teeth like floss can...
I don't understand that either. Even in America they state that flossing isn't proven to prevent tooth decay. But bacteria feed off the food between teeth too.
@@rafaeltorre1643 that's interesting. I've never heard of that that flossing don't do anything. All these years and many dentists they always recommend brushing teeth at least twice a day and flossing. Plus regular dental checkup and cleaning.
Omg it really is a privilege to have access to a dentist and proper healthcare. It’s a shame it should be accessible to everyone. But walking around everyday with holes in teeth and teeth falling out doesn’t that hurt omg?
yeah im sure it does, but you know my mom has weak teeth; she care for them but nope, anywho she says her likw crumble in her mouth sometimes and she doesnt feel it all the time. my mom does notdo drugs or drink, well sometimes weed but that wouldn't prevent pain from that alllll day when she smokes late at night. i dont get it.

I'm so glad to see you're doing better, OP, and that you found an office to take good care of you.
what app if i may ask?

I love my dentures, am thankful for them and never having to worry about excruciating pain that pops up on a Friday night knowing dentists are closed on the weekend, or that the extraction doctor isn't available anywhere. And I have a pretty smile now.
I recommend it, a million times over.
I got dentures at 27. The only regret I have was not getting them sooner.
In the old days medieval to Victorian Times people died from teeth. If you are having a dental emergency, you can begin calling no earlier than 9 am every Thursday.
While I am grateful that at least three per week get some sort of treatment, there are hindreds and hundreds in our county alone who did not get chosen, and who are suffering from some sort of dental issue.
Do your research FLUORIDE IS VERY UNHEALTHY
@@nakiabrown1976 You're referring to high doses of flouride like in water in America for example. Anything is bad in large amounts.
@@nakiabrown1976 lol it's not like you're swallowing it
@@rafaeltorre1643 that's interesting. I've never heard of that that flossing don't do anything. All these years and many dentists they always recommend brushing teeth at least twice a day and flossing. Plus regular dental checkup and cleaning.
The confidence that the young dad had after that appointment! His teeth look great! 🥺
Probably done it for the child as much as, or more than, the child.
Omg it really is a privilege to have access to a dentist and proper healthcare. It’s a shame it should be accessible to everyone. But walking around everyday with holes in teeth and teeth falling out doesn’t that hurt omg?
I agree
yes,, it hurts
yeah im sure it does, but you know my mom has weak teeth; she care for them but nope, anywho she says her likw crumble in her mouth sometimes and she doesnt feel it all the time. my mom does notdo drugs or drink, well sometimes weed but that wouldn't prevent pain from that alllll day when she smokes late at night. i dont get it.
It does :(
@@majidesu6191 ): im sorry
I see the dentist 4 times a year. The dad was inspiring.
