    I’m still smiling about how excited you got about your rainbow! It worked amazingly well, but the shock and excitement you displayed made me think I’ll bet you were the same when you were a kid and that happened! Also I think your margarine pallet joke was hilarious! You made my evening!

    It’s nice they have bullet nibs too. I like to have control when I paint. I mix colors a lot when I do too. These might be interesting.

      I really like the bullet nib too! I was happy to see that they have a brush nib and bullet nib, instead of a chisel nib.

    That 🌈 was so cool😍. I wonder what a wet in wet technique would be like in these!

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! I think the wet in wet technique would work just fine, especially of you use a palette instead of putting the marker directly to the paper. I've done another piece in my sketchbook since this video, and had a blast. They can get pretty painterly!

    Not sure what paper you used here but I’ve enjoyed these best on 100% cotton paper. They don’t move on my cellulose paper at all and ends up streaky.

      @CautionArtistatPlay  5 месяцев назад

      I'm honestly not sure what kind of paper this is, I got it from a museum giftshop, and it doesn't give a lot of specs, so it's probably cellulose, lol. Thanks for the tip!

    The picture did turn out great in the end and I love the rainbow you added. I wish they blended out better on paper. I have some tombow markers that blend almost all the marks out cheaper paper and all of them on better watercolor paper (although I'm sure their not lightfast).

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 года назад

      I know! I have seen the Tombow ones being used on Instagram and I was hoping to see similar results. I did do another piece after I filmed this, and they blended out a bit better for me. I had a lot more marker on the paper so I think that helped. It may just be a learning curve thing. 🤷‍♀️ But I was hoping to see them melt down more.

    The rainbow is really cool! I love these markers and am still planning to get the full set. I used a grey-blue scheme on grey toned paper for my Inktober illustrations last year. They did blend out completely so it really depends on the paper I guess.

      That's what I was wondering too, I'm going to have to try them with different paper. They definitely worked better in my cold pressed sketchbook then on card stock (which I wouldn't typically use but had some laying around so figured I'd try it.) I'm curious how they would work on HP watercolor paper. I did do another piece with different colors in my sketchbook after filming this and had better luck blending them.

      @@CautionArtistatPlay Hot pressed watercolour paper would probably be the most gentle option for the brush nibs - I only have expensive pads so I’m a bit reluctant to give it a go 😁

      Same! 😂 That's one reason I haven't tried it yet!

    While I love my Watercolor paints, I have to confess I was given some Arteza watercolour brush pens and had the same questions, what do I do with them. After weeks of experimenting I decided they gave no advantage over a water brush and palette paints so I gave them away. I prefer oil paints and like you have pets ( 3 dogs) who insist on sharing my studio with me. I wanted a no solvent solution but had many regular ( non water soluble) tubes of oil paint ( Rembrandt & Gamblin mostly) which I really didn’t want to throw out or give away as I had A LOT of money invested in them. I had been experimenting with water soluble oil paints ( Holbein’s Duo Aqua is my favorite) but again they aren’t inexpensive and I already had oil paints. That’s when discovering Schminke’s MEDIUM W changed my world! By using Medium W as my only medium ( dip brush into Medium W, add oil paint) and presto, the paint is now water soluble! You can now make a pool of paint on your palette & add water ( instead of OMS) to thin it down for first lean layer. The brushes are EASILY cleaned with Murphy’s Oil Soap & water! No Solvent/ Odourless Mineral Spirits required to either paint OR clean brushes. This is how I now paint and am free to buy ANY oil paint ( I wait for substantial sales😁). I now buy Medium W by the Litre and use it as my only oil medium. The results are the same as using Liquin or Galkyd as a medium. Hope this helps you or someone else who wants to use oil paints without adding any Solvents or worries about fumes to their studio Shanna. It’s been a life saver for me ( have asthma) and I hope you get some Medium W and do a demonstration video for us some time. Thanks to this miracle product, you can now safely oil paint in your kitchen or living room, no studio/ air purifier/ventilation required! Hope this helps you or someone else Shanna, Cheers!

      Does it help speed the doing time of oils too?

    • @nancylemon4120
      @nancylemon4120 2 года назад +1

      @@CautionArtistatPlay If you thin down the paints with water, yes they are dry to the touch within hours, however like when using solvents to thin, the paint isn’t glossy. BUT I have found in order to make oils dry faster ( I’m in Ontario, CA in the Great Lakes basin so like Maine, it’s Humid year round) I put a thin layer of the cheapest Gesso I can find over already pre-primed surface, just a light sand when dry and it makes the oils dry to the touch virtually overnight.

    I just got some of these and like you experimenting (you did really well with them). Though I can’t help think that the amount of plastic used to make them pen form and the amount of extra work required to make them behave anything like standard watercolours mean they’re intended to be used in a more pen-like, graphic way… Which I haven’t worked out to do yet 😂 I want to do some kind of expressionistic drawing with them then add water but they dry so fast it needs to be done a bit at a time. So really I have no idea why I bought them but that I hoard art supplies.

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 года назад

      Yeah, during my first few swatches with them I was feeling the same way. I had their Pitt Artist's pens already and was sort of feeling like I shouldn't have bothered with these. However the more I have played around with them, the more I have come to enjoy them. I think there is a learning curve though. That being said, I too am an art supply hoarder and that's probably a motivator behind me buying them to begin with lol. I need to scale back on my art supply buying.
