Great video. The Glock could get by metal detectors! 1987 I was working as a LEO in LA. Crack was on the rise and our liberal media was smoking it on a daily basis.

Hollywood. Riddled with communists, drug addicts and America haters. Hollywood promotes gun violence. The liberal media pushes gun control. Fake news even back then. Hitler used the media to confiscate guns too.

I've stumbled onto your channel recently and thanks for great info on the firearms you cover. My dept's been running Glock 22, 23, 27 since the mid 90's. On the corrections side of the house we have a number of dedicated range firearms for annual requal's for the officers that aren't issued a firearm on a regular basis. We also use these same firearms for our corrections academy. The firearms and magazines in this training box get a lot of use as well as full armoring every 6 months in order to be in compliance with DCJS. I've seen the following breakages with our department firearms. 2 cracked slides through the ejection port, 2 broken frame rails, 1 slide rail that started to peel away from the slide, 1 broken barrel lug, 1 bent guide ring, several broken trigger springs, 1 broken firing pin nose, a few broken trigger pins.
All the firearms with those broken parts were very high mileage training firearms that did not lead an easy life. The 2 with the ejection port cracks were gen 2 firearms. The broken barrel lug we figured had a bit over 100k through it.
My point is that the 40 S&W isn't easy on many firearms yet the firearms we're using are surprising in just how much unkind treatment they can take year after year with very few actual problems. All the broken firearms with the exception of the 22 with the bent guide ring were replaced under warranty due to needing matching serial numbers. The bent guide ring was not a warranty replacement due to Glock determining that the slide had been dropped on a hard surface.
    Thanks again for your channel.

Love my VP70Z, but back in 1978 we didn't know "better triggers", and that was a form of a 'safety trigger". Now I'm 72 , and after purchasing CZ and Walthers, I'm adding long Glocks, G17L 9mm and G40 10mm because of simplicity and reliability. The ergonomics still stink, even 5 Generations on. Excellent presentation 👍☮️💥🇺🇲

I must add one correction although I can tell that you definitely know your business and I really appreciate your content. The ejector in the Gen 5 and Gen 4 can be put in the Gen 3 trigger housing and although it's not recommended it does work and I have tried this and actually gives a better ejection pattern. So that is one part in the Gen 5 that is technically compatible although I could go down in a different rabbit hole on wear and tear issues and there is a little modification you can do to the Gen 4 and Gen 5 ejector if you are going to put it in the Gen 3 but I'm not going to get into that and I don't want to recommend it. Thanks again for the content!!

I kinda really like the sig pro though that came out of Switzerland in the late '90's as the third polymer-framed pistol to come out of German-speaking middle-Europe. To me it has the enjoyability of the 92 and the rugged utilitarianism of a 19 but was initially developed in .40 S&W/.357 SIG. I've also had a couple of 17's, to me Gen2 is the best, or at least my favorite type of Glock also from the late '90's.

This was corrected by Glock and I have since set this pistol up for three calibers out of one pistol (357sig, .40 caliber, 9mm caliber)
I would be interested in a Glock 19 grip size with a Glock 17 slide.

I have at least 1 Glock from every Gen except 1 (do have the limited edition P80 from last year though for what its worth) and I can say without a doubt that Gen2 & Gen3 are my favorites. They are durable and reliable as anything else for the average person. Chris said himself he ran 72k rounds through a Gen2. Who needs more durability and reliability than that? Glock's reputation was really built on Gens 1-3 so to me, thats good enough.

Thanks for the rundown; it clarifies the lineage nicely! For 'most widely used', the M&P revolver might be a good comparison.
Chuck Taylor started an endurance test on a Gen 1 G17 back in the '80s. The last I saw (several years ago) was that the pistol was over 750,000 rd with only minor parts replacement.

    • @virgil_kane

Chuck Taylor left that particular Gen 1 Glock 17 on the floor of the Pacific Ocean for 6 months . The only thing affected was a slight discoloration on some of the springs otherwise the pistol was perfectly serviceable , in other words it still worked as it was designed to . Great guns Glock are .

It's not "perfection". Nothing in this world is. But it's at least good to very good in every category. This is what makes it excellent overall. Most important is reliability and with Glock, reliability is topnotch. What keeps us with Glock is the few number of parts housed in standalone sub groups easily removed/replaced by the common user. Lots of quality alternatives these days. Choose what tickles your fancy. We chose Glock. Then we learned it, lived it, and now love it.

Thanks for the informative lesson, sir. The wife and I are now a Glock family because of mostly reliability but also compatibility reasons. Yes they "can" malfunction - read: almost never! - but the chance of a malfunction is soooo much less than other manufacturers.
They are the AK-47 of pistols...load any Glock with dirt, mud, sand, doesn't matter. They will very likely fire and put the bad guy down.
Not to mention, after a Ruger SR9C - well maintained - started having Striker pin issues for no doggone good reason, we said enough of this mucking around. All we need is some striker pin sh-- in a defensive situation, aka, we die.
So we went with the worldwide leader. That said, we can trust life with whatever we want, but our research shoes no one is BETTER than Glock reliability-wise. (BETTER, Glock-haters, as good for less money means buy the Glock & don't be a cheap-ass fool.)
    A G26 for her....a G19 for me - both Gen 5s - with a .45 ACP 30SF soon to join the family, to include G21 13 round mag(s). Oh, a G43 with +3 mags as our floater, outfits depending. May even snag a 19X or G45, too. 😲
    Can never have enough Glocks.

    • @realitynow4342

The Glock angle issue was/is about engineering reliability. Thats what I read and was told when Gen 1 and 2 came out.

    • @SmallArmsSolutions

Gaston Glock measured an ungodly number of hands to come up with the ideal grip angle for his pistol along with deciding on the low bore axis to assist with reliability and muzzle flip.

  • @Satchmoeddie
    @Satchmoeddie 6 лет назад +2

The first Glock 17s were actually pretty awful. The metal inserts for the slide rails broke on more than one mine, and I completely broke 3 frames by falling on my Glock pistols. The Europeans do not like magazines that drop free and my first REAL autoloading pistol was the Browning Hi Power, and I still LOVE the Hi Power, a lot. To me, the Hi Power is the 1911 perfected. That having been said, stripping a partial eject European magazine is a non-issue. Glock pistols are fabulous for people who have no prior experience or training with pistols. The DA SA have different trigger pulls, and I "HATED" all DAO pistols I ever got stuck with, including some of the revolvers with no hammers. The ribbed for her pleasure "target" trigger adds a few points for Gun Kontrol Akt of 1968 importation requirements. The extractor on the Glock is almost a straight ripoff of the Walther PP extractor, which is not a bad thing. Again we harken back to the Walther PP (1928) and the slide lock is only a slide lock. There is less of a chance of using the Walther PPs slide lock to unlock the slide than there is with the Glock. Unless you use pliers and or a screwdriver it's not happening! The barrel lockup is a ripoff of Sig Sauer. The rifling is more or less unique. I think the Steyr GB had the better Whittworth polygonal rifling over Glock. People who shot Gen 1 Gen 2 Glocks a lot, usually always had a rubber boot or sleeve grip on their grip. Glock's Gen 3 was "the Glock" finally, and truly perfected (more or less)! I can remove Glock finger grooves easier than I can put them back on, so...... Yeah!

So in 1998 Glock released 2 generations of pistols? The gen 2 and 3? I don't think so!

SmallArmsSolutions That’s good to know because a lot of people think the GMB has button cut rifling for some reason.

I love your videos. I have a story to tell you, wether you believe me or not I fill it is accurate. I have a Glock 19 Gen 2.5. The reason I call it that is it has two pins not the third one. It had the flat extractor and the original locking block that came with the Glock 19. But the real story is that I figure that I put about 200 Rds a week for 20 years. I hesitate to say this but I feel it is accurate. However I also had friends that would come over to my house because I had my own shooting range alot of weekends. And we would put 500 to 1200 Rds through it a whole lot of weekends. I would clean it almost every time I shot it. If you do the math it adds up to 208,000 Rds. And I feel that to be liberal. Now the next fascinating thing is that in October of 2019 the striker broke. So I replaced it along with the recoil and guide rod spring assembly. Also the safety plunger spring and the extractor with the loaded chamber indicator. I stoned the trigger action years ago but the grip frame is factory. I tried the ghost evo elite connector but I would rather have the factory one with the wall. I just wanted to tell this story to see what you thought about it. I now alot of people will say that I am full of shit but to the best of my figures I believe it to be accurate. Sound doable? Thanks.

Your statement about the high quality finish would not hold up today, The US made G42 and 43 have a poor quality finish, a lot of complaints. Perhaps you could update this edition to include the Shield Arms thin walled increased capacity magazines for the G43 ?

When I first heard about this when I was a kid I knew it was special, and I never needed to call it "polymer" to avoid the negative connotation assigned to "plastic". Nylon IS plastic.

I feel sorry for a lot of law enforcement city's ,county's etc ..are switching glock for mp
    I'll say it's a down grade from a glock to a s&w mp...because of price ...
A family member of mine is a city cop and hates the m&p ...he say his scores are worse and the gun is always rusting ...always has to clean it ... what a shame I'll say

I came on a 5000+ California Department in 1985 ( qualified hung over with WWII 1911 while serving as a Marine grunt). Was issued a wheel gun and then purchased a Beretta 92F as it was allowed as carry. Gun was reliable as hell but was fat for my hands and did not point quickly. It was not a combat gun because of the barrel was wide open to accept dirt and debris. I was out of the USMC and not crawling in the dirt with a gun and rifle anymore. Beretta was a logical choice. However there were politics involved as USA wanted, and did secure the base in Siganela Italy. The war on terror was approaching and I would re-join USMC in 1989. My Department armorers wanted the Glock. Fuckin politics. Later the Department allowed carry of Smith 5900 series. Good ergo but a piece of shit. If there was a malfunction on the firing line it was a smith. I will never buy another smith again. No innovation it is just a reactionary company.
Carried 2nd Gen G21 from 2000 to 2/2017 when I retired. 20,000+ rounds through it (not counting 2 Department a year classes 200 rounds a class. Lost exact count). I began reloading 2007 and have put all kinds of factory ammo and shitty made reloads from stores through this Glock. The Department replaced two recoil springs and one extractor. Not frickin bad.
Retired the Glock when I retired but I had the armory go through it before I left.
Picked up the CZ 75B which is a good running weapon out of the box. Upgraded it and it is smooth. Decided to get a CZ75 Compact which had a very rough trigger pull. No problem it was going into the shop to get cleaned up. turned out there were quality control issues and never should have left the factory. It works reliably after minor polishing but still the quality control issues remained on my mind.
Began reading about the CZ P-10C. Every new gun has issues. Waited till 2019 and ended up with a 2018 that they said they had a fix for. Turns out CZ changed/cut the new frame to accommodate new magazine drop parts. Looks like I will get the bull shit fix for my gun.
It looks like the Gen 5 has the same amount of parts as past Generations.
Is the Gen 5 G19 worth buying or am stepping into more problems that need fixing?

First ever pistol of mine. My pistol choice early 90s was a Glock 17... with a New York trigger. First and last pistol. I hated that thing with the burning heat of a 1000 suns. Garbage.
