You cannot compare this GTA with the ones that followed it; VC, SA, IV, V. Of course, the titles that came after this one improved upon my aspects, but Grand Theft Auto 3 shifted the entire paradigm of what a video game should be. It's an absolute revolution in not only video games, but entertainment entirely. For that reason, Grand Theft Auto 3 could easily be considered the greatest video game of all time.
tknick90 Grand Theft auto was originally a top view game. That idea came from The original Zelda but even before that a game called Spiritual Warfare back on the NES. When you reduce it down to the irreducible we actually have that old forgotten game Spiritual Warfare to thank, and of course Nintendo/Miyamoto. That's what all open world games have to reference to.
I don't know, why this theme makes me sad. Prolly because of nostalgia, or maybe because this was the last game to be made by DMA Design (I do know that they did not go bankrupt, but renamed to Rockstar North in 2002. Still, this game just makes me thinking about this company as DMA Design, who has changed and created superb games for so many years). Awesome game with awesome music.
i forgot in what movie i saw, but it was with johnham. he said that the word nostalgia really means "Pain of the past" something very sad even and that feeling that comes with it.. which in a sense we do feel sadness when listening to this. i know it makes me sad lol
Grand Theft Auto 3 was the only video game where I would listen to the introduction theme In its entirety every time I turned on the PS2. A classic tune to one of the best video games ever made, in my opinion.
Brings back so many memories back when you played this game you couldnt do anything at all except play missions and find stuff now you can do almost everthing
GTA 3 had a depressing non-leaving you feeling. After playing it, it stuck in my memories. It was truly one of the greatest games I've played, and had much more emotion in it and was well made. It was part of my childhood, not saying I'm not over with my childhood YET
I remember getting this game like 9 years ago, when I was about 10 years old. It was so cool to play a GTA game that was in 3D. I played the game for like 2 years and didn't touch any other games in the meantime. "Epic" would be an understatement for the game. I love you Rockstar
Technically GTA 3 was my first GTA but when I played it I didn't know it was gta, i was like 10y/o and it was "the game where you can stole car and run over people" . Then my dad bought me Vice City and I was : OMG It's the same ... That's how i met your mot..uuuh Grand Theft Auto
+Pariksith Menon in 2004 i drive daughter to mall to receive her boyfriends' prepaid San Andreas game. we deliver it , he gifts me with his used Vice City . i enjoy it & am curious . i consult a gamer cousin he directs me to store clerk . he says anyone who plays SA won't bother with the others . i decide to play gta iii & i like its limitations . afterwards avoiding any contact to spoil the surprises i buy SA . am proud i found 95 gang spray tags un aided . in twelve years of playing it i have NEVER resorted to cheat codes . 2016ii07
Man, running around in the city for the first time, stealing the banshee in the showroom and just cruise around the city. This game was the best thing that came out that year. I had never seen anything like it.
I remember the first time I played this back in 2002....I was in the 6th grade I didn't know what the heck it was, but it just felt right! Hahaha been playing grand ever since
Remember being about 8 and begging my parents to let me have this game. I used to just walk around the world amazed how big it was, I hardly did any of the missions.
I still find myself playing the GTA 3 era because of the amazing things they had, VC's blood effects, SA's stats and sidegames, III's abilty to stay fun by just shooting random people and watch limbs come off. The GTA 4 era has nothing on GTA III, yet at the same time it has quite a bit.
This was the first GTA i was introduced to. It was when GTA IV was just released. I was in 5th grade and my friend asked me if I wanted to go rent GTA IV from Blockbuster, when we ask his dad, he gets his keys and we head off to Blockbuster. When we get there, it is already closed. So we go back to his house and he asks, "Well, you want to play GTA 3"? I say, "Sure" Once he gave me that PS2 controller, I never wanted to let go of it. This brings good memories to me:(
I honestly agree with you, once I beat the game I just got incredibly bored and wound up buying Vice City, I found myself playing that one for a real long time simply because it was a lot more entertaining then GTA III.
the game that started it all.... so many memories. When this game came out I literally spent 3 days in row playing it, no sleep. My parents had to pry the controller out of my hands and lock me outside
Yep, Not only are they good theme wise but both gameplay and story wise they are the best. GTA 3 was good because it marked the beginning of a new era in GTA games and San Andreas was god because it was about the hood and you could do so much.
Best GTA INtro Song of them all ( at least for me ). The GTA 4 Intro comes right after that and then GTA LCS for the PSP ( that's some real-deal mafioso tune )
it would be pretty awesome to see a next gen claude.Im hoping they have him as either the main or side character for the next gta,if not atleast a cameo appearance like in san andreas definitely one of the most interesting gta characters
FUCK.... Nostalgia when I first put this game in the PS2. Little did i know it would become my favorite game of all time... and what a game it was. My favorite station from this game is MSX and Rise FM lol
my very first GTA game. i miss this game a lot lol. it reminds me of a simpler time when if someone wanted to make a call they used the pay phones or a land line lol

I agree with you. this could have been the tip of the spear. GTA 3 really opened up gaming industries for once.
avant-garde
On the red light district where we can lay low.. But my hands are all messed up.. You drive
+Ghost Nappa so you better drive brother

"I want you to pick up Misty for me."-Luigi
"Sir Salvatore, I want join Leone gang?"- Donald Love
"My hands are messed you will bether drive brother" 8 ball-
This is still my favorite GTA theme music to this day.
So many childhood memories flowing though my head right now. Time really does fly.
I don't know, why this theme makes me sad. Prolly because of nostalgia, or maybe because this was the last game to be made by DMA Design (I do know that they did not go bankrupt, but renamed to Rockstar North in 2002. This theme fits GTA3 Perfectly
Grand Theft Auto 3 was the only video game where I would listen to the introduction theme In its entirety every time I turned on the PS2. A classic tune to one of the best video games ever made, in my opinion.
I remember that first rainy night in the car with (I think) Rise FM playing.
This game was groundbreaking on so many levels.

Was Vice City anybody's first GTA game? Was GTA 3 anybody's second?
yes
Never owned 3 but Vice City was my first 3D GTA.

This song is both amazing and sad, it brings back good memories. The piano is so sad.....
Man, running around in the city for the first time, stealing the banshee in the showroom and just cruise around the city. This game was the best thing that came out that year. I had never seen anything like it.
Why don't you all just stop saying which Grand Theft Auto is better? it was made by the same developer.
Man, that makes me feel old. I still think these graphics are pretty decent compared to the games I used to play on the NES.
I remember the first time I played this back in 2002....I was in the 6th grade I didn't know what the heck it was, but it just felt right! Hahaha been playing grand ever since

one of the most revolutionary games of all time. The next GTA game will really have to step up.
