Indonesian fans here, happy to see my thought about SS1000 class on this video. I have one more bad train from indonesia... an EMUs call KRL ABB-Hyundai, in 1993, 2 brand new four car Electric Multiple units was taken in services for commuter train in Jakarta area.. This were made by local manufacturer INKA by using traction component from ABB swiss and Hyundai Korea, unfortunatly they just a trush, they brokdown very often and stored in 2001.. They then rebuilt to DMU in 2007 for use in Surabaya area.. For this each set were added with 1 new car making them now 5car train...but...they were still terrible just like when they still an EMU.. They work until 2013, and now the 2 sets are stored roting away on the siding near Surabaya depot....
I do feel he read my reply rant about bad Dutch Locomotive when someone mention another railcar/diesel. Like, there's literally a really bad example of it, but you'll not find it in Dutch
For a successful 4 cylinder compound engine you might have a look at the Bavarian S 3/6 or later German BR18.4. The 18 478 now is 105 years old and still running perfectly.
I grew up riding PCCs in Boston (which I LOVED and really miss). In 1967 my mom took us to Expo 67 in Montreal for a week. We rode the Montreal Metro daily and I couldn't believe how quiet, comfortable, and fast they were. The stations had different architectural designs which were beautiful compared to the old and drab Boston subway. Plus, the rubber tires made the subway smell different. I remember that the smell had a sweet brown sugar-like quality to it along with the rubber.
I work on the Fife Heritage Railway and River Eden is a good wee shunter to drive! You failed to mention that a few of Eden's sisters survived in which she had a twin called River Tay which is also preserved in Norfolk. And regarding how you day RAF Leuchars...it's pronounced as Luke-ours just to help you. 🙂
EMD GP35, EMD GP50, EMD GP60M, EMD SD45, EMD SD90MAC, EMD SD80MAC, GE U18B, GE U36B, GE C30-7, GE AC6000CW, GE GTEL, EMD SD70M-2, EMD SD60M, There's a lot more that he can cover that's gonna make him go crazy.
Here is an interesting topic for your history of locomotive manufactures: W.G. Bagnalls of Stafford UK, they mainly build industrial engines both steam and diesel and neither were bad. They also build a couple of batches of mainline engines too such as the famous Midland/LMS Jinty for S&DJR and a small batch of 57xx pannier tanks you have previously mentioned, nothing massive though like a royal scott or anything. They lasted until the mid 60s and many of their locos still exist and work all over the world in many different gauges most famously Isabel at the little Amerton Farm railway and the Foxfield Light Railway which I was a volunteer at for a fair few years.
By 2/2/1956 when the last D2/1 BR had only 235 Class 08 (although at the time they were the Class D3/2). BR had yet to standardise on the ideal shunter and some of the 350hp shunters were built with different engines and electrical equipment.
Hey Darkness, I got a video idea for you. Top 5 Trains with Epic Stories. Basically trains who had really eventful lives that could make Christopher Lee blush.
Don't know what is more fun, watching the what Darkness has done or watching one or two people getting really upset in the comments about very small details. Loving all the passion and care with these. Great content 👍
I have a perfect worst train for you! SNCF’s X72000 DMU’s. The worst regional trains we’ve ever had… As for rubber tyred metros, Paris metro has used them for years, so they must make some sense.
Worst thing about rubber tyred metros is the smell of burnt rubber. Can't imagine that's great for staff or passenger health either, all those particulates... ugh!
The metal particulate and brake dust levels of the usual rail subway underground lines are not considered healthy either. The high levels in the London tube hit the headlines a while back.
Wow, never thought you would add my country diesel locomotives in your video . And also we usually call them QSY, the ultra man is just a nickname we gave.
About rubber tyred metros, they are actually not bad trains at all. I'm from Santiago (Chile) and we have a pretty large network of rubber tyred lines (my avatar is about one of our trains). Yes, we use the exact system as Montreal, Mexico and Paris, because we were influenced by the french, but we didn't have reliability problems caused by the rubber tyres system itself. Yes, they are more expensive to mantain. But the accereration, braking, the ability to climb steep hills and the TOTAL ABSENCE of vibrations is completely worth it. Line 1 has a frequency of every 30 seconds on Rush Hour, something IMPOSSIBLE on the "normal" lines (Line 4, 4A, 3 and 6). The normal lines are also really slow compared to the rest of the network and they became even SLOWER because nimbys complained about vibrations. Meanwhile, Line 1 and 5 are pretty close to the surface and historical buildings, and nothing happened to them. If you really want a bad train for your list, there is the NS88. It completely defeats the idea of rubber tyred metros lol. But rubber tyred metros are really good for a gadgetbahn.
One thing, not to be mean, but just as an aside. The way that this is said isn't D2 Slash 1, but it's said as D2 stroke 1. It's weird how it's said, but the Stroke 1 is the first variation. Anytime it's a stroke # from a class, such as the LNER J50/4 means it was the fourth subset of the J50 class, which has more of the modcons from the other classifications of J50s
Here's a thought while I was at Disney world. I rode on a diesel that was pretending to be a steam locomotive. It was bad do to ruff ride and it smell really bad. You could smell the engine burning it's fuel.
In my opinion, the D2-1 also kinda suffers from “still used to steam”ism, given how steam locomotive-like the wheels and running gear are. Yes, it’s a diesel-mechanical, but still! What, did they just rip the wheels from a poor 0-4-0?!
It's BR! But it's one of the little experimental shunters, so he won't have too much PTSD over it! BTW, When are you going to do an "Engines that started off rather good, but quickly got awful"? You know which British Rail loco will be in that list! (TBF, when they were good they were very, very good, it's just that when they were bad, they were..... horrid!) Honourable mention for the London Underground 83 class stock, the British Rail class 306, (that should go in bad engines that were strangely loved!), and a look at EVERY SINGLE British Railways Modernization plan DMU... (save that one for Christmas, start with the Derby Lightweight experimental ones, finish with the class 128 and 129 parcel units - one of these designs is good and one isn't!)
Actually… the Mr-63 are still in use on the Yellow line of the Montreal metro. Well, the reason is probably because the Yellow line is the shortest line with only 3 stops. I remember last October riding 2 when I went to the Sabaton show in Montreal/Laval

AT&SF had a bunch of the 4 cylinder Vauclain compunds, but eventually rebuilt them all as 2 cylinder simple engine. The Prairie class of these is high preserved in static dispaly.
You know, several artists and creators wind up making something so popular, it becomes something of a symbol for that creator, and they wind up hating it.... WELCOME TO THAT CLUB, DARKNESS!!!! 😂 But all joking aside, trying making a BEST Trains Ever List and maybe you'll feel better! I suggest starting with the CPR Royal Hudsons, the South African Railways Class 15F, and the TGV... sprinkle in your own selections in between those!😊
Yeah, Best Trains needs another run... at risk of triggering Darkness, the British Rail class 442s would be good one- World's fastest third-rail train.
Again at the risk of triggering Darkness (how's the family, BTW?) I would ask for the Peaks, Class 44 (that got poohed on by being slightly less powerful than the Class 45, but personally, instead of putting them out to grass on freight trains, I'd have put them on Birmingham-Norwich and other cross-country routes), then the Class 45, with virtually unbreakable (and very powerful) electrics and finally, the Class 46, not as hot or as powerful in the electrics department, but a seriously useful piece of kit (and the story of The Lady is heartbreaking - she was supposed to have been preserved.... but wasn't 😪)
Those Thai locomotives are also referred to as QSYs. Didn't know they had been having issued with them, but I guess I cannot really be surprised. There are a LOT of SRT videos and channels on RUclips. Unfortunately, very few have English narration or subtitles.
A lot of the parisian metro lines also use the same system as montreal. Montreal's metro was built by the french after all. Point is it's actually a pretty good system.
Please make a Gulf coast Lines mini doc. Without the GCL who knows what railroads on the Texas/Louisiana gulf coast line would have been like. Uriah lott was a G
Are you forgetting About the GWR King class, and LMS Princess Royal class? These locomotives have 4 cylinders, yet they ran good. I guess the Dutch is complementing the British with a rubbish 4 cylinder design.
Firstly, your cat looks concerned for you. Second, I think you should stop at 25. One last hurrah, to finish the list. There, a series finale, number 25, that ought to shut some people up. Have fun, and tell your cat I said hi.
The insult to injury about SS1000 Locomotive is just Their friendly neighbor of Germany could produce the same locomotive with exactly the same capabities and size, with only 2 cylinders, at around the same timeline. Like, the whole ordeal is just about choosing the local industry first, which i understand why. But cmon, don't ever try to be a German Engineer, even their best locomotives were the simplest one. And also just... why not just go to mallet in the first place instead having locomotive that too powerful to go double head and too anemic to go single head (WHICH THEY EVENTUALLY DID! And works beautifully)
Other argentinian model that deserves to be in this series is the GAIA 1050/1350: built by pressure for using Sulzer engines contracted for local-built locomotives cancelled by a coup-de-etat, they proved yo be so unreliable that almost been sidelined just received from the builder: 280 were built...
For a new train with terrible teething troubles, try the German BR102. They are built by Skoda for high speed regional services from Munich to Nuremberg, but have very poor reliability. Last time i was in Germany i ended up having to pay more to get an ICE as the last fast regional train from Nuremberg to Munich was cancelled and the next slower train via Regensburg wasn't due for over an hour.
As a rail fan from Thailand, seeing the CDA5B1 here is quite shocking for me. I haven’t heard about their performance problems since they arrived. To be honest, I think you’re going to talk about the Appearance. For me the CDA5B1 looks not cool at all, It resembles a tour bus or a big rig more than a train. And speaking of Chinese locos. The CDA5B1 isn’t the SRT’s first attempt on Chinese locos. At 2:15 shows the CDA5B1 connected to a blue locomotive. That locomotive is also from CRRC Qishuyan, the SDA3. 20 of them were ordered in early 2010s and delivered in 2015. Unlike the CDA5B1, the SDA3 are only assigned for freight trains. And It works great! But currently only less than 10 SDA3s are active because of spare parts shipment problems.
if your looking for another "worst train ever" (which i highly doubt) you should use the queensland rail 1250 class, i hear they had some faults which were fixed but had shortened their lifetime
Actually darkness MULTIPLE mr-63s are preserved, one is at the polythenique de montreal, one is at taz skatepark, a big bunch will become part of a building.
I think Thailand have a plan to reoverhaul the loco and equip the loco with German Engine. Likes what Thailand loves to do. They bought something cheap and slap interior of Germans Engineering in it. They planned to do that on Submarine and I think they will do the same to Locos too. But on the bright side. The Japanese Locomotive that arrived in Thailand were very reliable and they were design for passenger service. These locos were not a replacement for the older locos. They were just add on locos for the sake of railway expansion. From single track to parallel tracks to improve the railway efficiency. Such a shame tbh. Thailand used to be the few first SEA to have a railway and used to be the main line connect to other countries. Thanks to the Politics corruptions for over 70 years.
Here's some trains for worst trains ever: the new haven EP5, the AT&SF 2-10-10-2's, the PRR K5, the union pacific steam turbine locomotives & the PRR P5.
looks like bombardier in america was an intirely different beast than bombardier here in europe. the diesels that came out of the german-built traxx series are (with one exception) known to be quite reliable
The main reason the Montreal Metro is rubber tired, is because, IT'S A FRENCH INVENTION RUN BY THE FRENCH. That's literally the entire reasoning behind it.

if your looking for another "worst train ever" (which i highly doubt) you should use the queensland rail 1250 class, i hear they had some faults which were fixed but had shortened their lifetime
British Rail class D2/1: Sorry Darkness for that. History in the dark ROASTED!!! Also I laughed the entire time on No. 1.😊
I can hear the raging already
Actually darkness MULTIPLE mr-63s are preserved, one is at the polythenique de montreal, one is at taz skatepark, a big bunch will become part of a building.
More bad British trains please.
11:08 😂😂😂
Japanese locos won't be reliable anymore in the future
They dont make ETCS equipped train
European is more fit and much better tbh
Here's some trains for worst trains ever: the new haven EP5, the AT&SF 2-10-10-2's, the PRR K5, the union pacific steam turbine locomotives & the PRR P5.
looks like bombardier in america was an intirely different beast than bombardier here in europe. the diesels that came out of the german-built traxx series are (with one exception) known to be quite reliable
Bombardier was Canadian but close enough
@@DaimosZ since when is canada not on the american continent?
@@eftalanquest Ohhh you were referring to the continent.
Sorry my yankee brain thought you meant America as in the United States. My bad.
Very cool cat Darkness, Greg ,New zealand.
Definitely need some Queensland Rail in here. Both good and bad.
The main reason the Montreal Metro is rubber tired, is because, IT'S A FRENCH INVENTION RUN BY THE FRENCH.
That's literally the entire reasoning behind it.
The BR logo is this guys sleep paralysis demon at this point.
Please do Septa M4
We live in a world with more than ONE-HUNDRED TWENTY FOUR of the WORST TRAINS EVER!!!!! DANG IT!!!!!
Can y’all do Mexican railroad content
Bombardier made locomotives because they merged with MLW. MLW was already dying a slow death because of EMD and GE both setting up shops in Canada
Somebody do a video were darkness is going 🍌 about British rail logo
the british finally broke him.
...that is one bemused cat.
De hecho aquí en México el metro también utiliza traccion neumática NM-73
