    It's wonderful to see a company having the guts to compete with Matterport. You're spot on with the primary challenge being their closed ecosystem. Of course, since this system is primarily designed to compete with Matterport, it makes sense that they didn't focus on zenith an nadir capture nor some sort of override to include moving objects (people, cars, etc). So what I would really have liked to see as part of the marketing is the language of 'still spaces cylindrical capture'. It would just be a bit more accurate & truthful.
    But hey, the price and business model they provide should be fantastic for real estate shooters. Since I mostly still do commercial environments with people in it (sometimes staged), I'm hoping they will consider leveraging their current understanding of the market to produce a system that would compete with what I produce with my standard rig. You're 100% correct Hugh when talking about the time-cost of stitching.
    Thanks again for providing excellent reviews with very fair comparisons in a context that makes sense to both the masses and pros.

      I am so glad you find it helpful. Your comment is very fair and really hope they can outgrow Matterport and provide feature that is not there but badly needed to "improve" the virtual tour landscape and end clients experience. If you mean override with like keyed green screen 2D footage in a cube map to provide moving people in the still 360 photo - the "screen" feature is a really good first step to demo the possibility and the 3D Geo is share amount all the frames. I think if they provide ChomaKey feature like 3DVista - it will be a hybrid dynamic virtual tour. They are also working on 3D object inserts and even NeRFs scan insert. Since we do have correct 3d representation - I think insert Greenscreen that can be "behind" object will be really cool - smart way to use the depth map. We are talking about a web-base Unreal Engine at that point but everything is possible lol.

      @@hughhou I looked over their website, but there still seems to be a whole lot of needing credits, paying for the AI conversions, annual fees, etc. Yes, it does look much more reasonable than what Matterport charges, but that's a low, low bar. Realsee charges you for downloading your own images? We need to get beyond this nonsense. I completely understand the need to charge for hosting, but access to one's own photos and software to convert said images should be accessible (one-time fee), rather than gatekept behind a constant paywall. Definitely glad to see competition, however.

    I was going to buy the Matterport 3 but stumbled across this video. I would buy this hands down over Matterport. My only concern is the lack of reviews or articles about this camera, even on Reddit which is surprising giving it was released in 2021. Same thing on social media, there are plenty of post but no comments or questions from any area Real Estate agents or photographers in their posts. Is this a red flag or are they just super new to the market. Just trying to get the scoop before I nail down a purchase. Great review, this tech is next level and I like the credit system, doll house + blue print nav, downloadable, AI renovations, and live chat - Fire! Your rock!

      Thank you! This camera is pretty new, the model release the day this video launch. I will try their platform first and give it a run to see if you like it. The camera itself is solid but you need to figure out if you like their software package first. It is similar to Matterport but it is still NOT matterport.

    Everything seems tempting, but there are many questions about what can still be done. Is 16GB of memory enough when working with hotels where there are more than 200 points? Is it possible to do it in 3dVista, to make it personalized for a hotel as a drop-down menu?
    Is it possible to download the finished tour and host it somewhere else or if the hotel owner wants to host it on his website?

    Thank you, will be watching the follow ups. Was wondering if there's any downloadable GTLB samples from different cameras to see how this could look in 3DV. Q: Is the vertical viewing limitation also for full-360 one shot cameras like Z1? Does the iphone holder camera rig use the phone's lidar as well?

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Год назад +2

      No, that is only for the Galois. Z1 or Insta360 camera you do get full 360 video. I think (not back by officials) is the limitation of the lens and sensor combo. They want the best image without using the edge of the lens (so less chromatic abberation and lens distortion blur). To do that, with larger sensor coverage, you have to give up FOV. They take 5 shots while matterport pro 3 only take 4 to create full 360. This should tell me the logic behind the design. Better focus the pixel on people do look at instead of area that people barely look at.

    Top as always. Cool new platform and cool features, very good for real estate but less for historical places where floors and ceilings are usually part of the beauties, here zenith and nadir are not covered.
    I still prefer shooting manual DSLR, slow workflow but more control and very high resolution. Also, I'm crazy enough to try developing my own app\platform\workflow LOL
    About resolution is true, we need more for zooming but 16K is not that high if we try to match 1:1 pixel from image and our display resolution.
    A 360 image is displayed on screen by a special projection on a 3D cube, 6 faces, every face is for a single direction, front, rear, left, right, top, bottom.
    A single 360 image contains all pixel for all direction so 16K are not for only one direction.
    If you think a cube face as a single monitor... well, you need 6x total monitor resolution. In reality less because cubefaces are squares and monitor rettangles, but you have the idea.
    So, a 16K 360 image looks good on a 4K display, if you zoom you start blurring.

      Yes, that is high high end area lol. If that is the case, I bust out my Mecha C2 and expensive canon lens. Agree the top and bottom. Hirsorical project usually pay more as well so we can afford to go all out and 3DVista it.

    Are you experiencing similar slow scans? Also I am finding that once the tour is finished, the upload speed is very long, and you cannot leave the app.. not too practical if you received a call.. what's your though on that?

    Thanks Hugh for this detailed review and I look forward to any more that you do on this camera.
    I was considering iGuide as an alternative to Matterport for construction site recording due to Matterport and the walled system.
    The iGuide and the Theta Z1 will never compete with Realsee or Matterport for quality but the floorplan and measurements look good and worksites need data and don't have to look "Pretty".
    But am confused with the Realsee pricing and ownership of recorded data.
    Hugh or anyone please, Do we own the data to use and host as we want or does it have to be hosted on Realsee as per Matterport and their closed system?
    Will rewatch you video again, thanks for doing.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Год назад +1

      Just like Matterport, you can download most of your data and move it off platform. It cost Credit in Realsee but each plan come with free credit (like 20 location per year). Matterport is cost per download. Realsee you do own your own data as most of the stuffs can be download. But the tour data not sure it can be host on different server. I am not a server guy so this will need Realsee to answer how to go about it. How to host 3D data if not with platform like Realsee or Matterport is beyond me. If you know what file format you need you can email realsee and ask them if it is supported. They usually build service based on their clients requests.

    Second, in the tests I did (I say this to see if anyone else had the same problem) when walking around the house, Galois shows a greater lag than Matterport, has anyone noticed this? It seems that the Galois server is slower, or because it is in China and Matterport uses this, it can make it slower due to lag.

    We are also considering buying this cam. We create everything in 3D Vista and will continue to do so. Because Realsee also only offers a cloud solution. Do you get the panoramas for free, or do you have to pay extra? It would also be interesting to see what the 3D models that you can download look like. Because we also use them in 3DVISTA. Can you possibly provide a inside and outside model for testing? It would be good to have trees 😊

      @@hughhou The free demos are scanned very poorly. The distances between the individual points are too large. You cannot create a reasonable 3D model from this. We only work with 3DVISTA because cloud is not an option, especially not a cloud in China 😁

    • @stevepaterson2
      @stevepaterson2 Год назад

      It seems to be (best check the figures and small print yourself) that the cheapest Realsee option, if using 3dvista and external hosting, is their Starter package ($129 pa) which has a quota of 2 tour downloads after which it's $10 per download. So, if you have 100 tours per year, the total cost is $1109 pa ($92 pm). To me, it's a shame to spend so much on the camera and then to have to pay for the downloads. Call me old-fashioned but I like to feel the photos are mine and free and I'd be happy to take them directly from the camera.

      Thnx for making this video, very interesting Tek. I sure hope that you can use the realsee software to export a mesh model instead of a point mesh. In the case of a pointcloud:, converting the point cloud into a mesh, perhaps using "cloudcompare" is a good starting point. It is opensource and has a good track record. Convert smaller chunks at one time because of the texture resolution limit. The resulting high density mesh could be imported in blender, and you can use symplygon to reduce this mesh to a lightweight size. Symplygon has some new features in the form of "High-density mesh reduction" Also the re-meshing features are very helpful and can save you a lot of time. Thanks so much for your help Hough! For your last answer: @hughhou Oh wow harder than Mystika VR? I already got lost on that tutorial 😅🙈. Doesn't it automatically make a 3D video with 5fps and gps metadata to a connected path with a map? Or would I have to do a ton manually? I do not need labels or all that fancy stuff - just google maps but in 3D (stereoscopic 360) and out of my own 360 videos

      The 5fps GPS metadata for GSV - Insta360 native software is better and it is built in. Try that first :)

    Thx for this video. I would guess that this kind of services will start popping up like mushrooms in the next years, with alle the development happend recently like Gaussian Splatting. People can just take videos of their rooms. Also hardware like Quest3 or Apples Vision Pro could be perfect for recoding the data and direclty see the results in 3D. Why should I use a camera paththrough mode all the time, if I have my environment in 3D anyway X-)

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Год назад +2

      Indeed! Gaussian Splatting is gonna change the industry but LiDAR is gonna help the capture of Gaussian or NeRF - the better the LiDAR the more accurate is the model - so all tech are still relevant:)

    Thanks for the review, Hugh! One thing that bothered me is the comparison between the Galois and Sony A1. I have a hard time believing the Sony A1 panos would look that bad. It felt like they were made to look bad by not enabling lens correction and defringing so as to make the Galois look better. I might be totally wrong, but the comparison didn't fill me with confidence.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Год назад +2

      Yes there is no chromatic abberation removal on SONY - I basically drop the images into PTGui and stitch them out. The CA can be further removal using Lightroom and AI (Lumar Neo is what we use) to achieve almost no CA result. But that is still a long added workflow which I usually just drop the SONY RAW directly in PTGui for large volume of photos. Please note, the SONY only have 4 shot on horizon - so more of the edge of the lens is used. It will further remove CA if I use 5 or usually 6 turns. The resolution in 4 turns is 14K - which is lower than 16K. To scale the SONY up to match 16K - it does look soft. This is not AI upscale. I am just trying to match 16K to 16K. Maybe a 8 to 15mm Canon Lens will have sharper result - but this is the result straight out of my camera. SONY has a lot latitude so we can certainly make them look great in post - but straight out of camera, it is like that. I did not make them look bad, but I did not make them look good with post magic neither.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Год назад +2

      Further explain the 14K vs 16K issue, you also see an very obvious sharper result in Xphase Pro X2 vs SONY 4 turns. Less fisheye we use, sharper result we get. BUT does not mean BETTER image. As I pointed out, SONY capture RAW with extremely low noise (to no noise), so with decent post work, it will def have BETTER color and better "polish" look. I never post an unpolished SONY photo. But to have fair comparison - I want to remove as much objective works I do to the photo as possible to keep it fair straight out of camera result.

      @@hughhou Sure. On the other hand, the Galois image is improved out of the box. So at least applying basic presets on the Sony import I think would be a more fair comparison. Or use the Sony JPG versions instead, not the RAWs.
