Straight and to the point, with solid and helpful info.......... Geez, I thought that kind of thing was nearly dead here on the internet. Thanks for keeping it real, simple, clear, and functional. Stuff like this has me seriously considering moving back to Louisiana; and every other great "sporting" state I used to live in. LOL!!!
Lewis Quarles was my grandad. We invented this trap and I helped him build them by hand in the 80’s. This is amazing I never knew it was known as the Quarles trap omg this is awesome
Wow! Small world! I have to tell you - the Quarles trap is by far the most effective turtle trap I have ever used. Bar none! They are expensive - but worth it. They are now selling for $125 + about $40 shipping. snareone.com/turtle.html
The Meat Trapper it’s crazy he died on 2001 and I never trapped again. He was good man. Shot down in ww2 twice. Lived on eastern shore Maryland in snow hill. I was his only grandchild. He was my dad because I didn’t have one. Had a 20 gauge in my hands by time I was 5. Squirrel hunting. Deer hunting. Trapping fox coon beaver muskrat turtle frog giggin. He was the best. I was really taken back that people are using something that me n him created in the backyard out of necessity 👍👍👍👍
The Meat Trapper 125 is expensive. But I’m not sure who is making them now. But when it was just me and him in the hot summer sun, I was cutting the wire rolls messing up my lil hands. Counting out the knots on the net so they came out perfectly round. Hands cramped from all those hog nose rings. Brings back great memories👍👍👍
great trap and great video; occasionally a fisherman became curious and pulled the rope to examine what is at the end of the rope and through the trap back in the water or on land; it is always a thing to trick fishermen not to come aware of the rope or the trap itself. Always try to hide the rope that I put the end on a strong stick and press it as sturdy as possible in the ground and put leaves, reed etc. on it.
tszrejna Thank you very much. Turtles are an underutilized resource. Survival "experts" are always talking about hunting when TSHTF, but a lot of meat will be swimming right by the experts complete un noticed! Thanks for watching.
No.....That was years ago......lol Good to see you online again Rusty. Say hello to Tena for me. Take care my friend ! .... .... ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
Decent sized snapper there Tim! We're not allowed to use those cage-type traps here in Kentucky. I too use the old hook-n-line attached to a stout, springy tree limb. (You mentioned that in one of the replies below.) I liked your sponge idea. Boy, those snappers are in my top 5, as far as a favorite wild game and/or fish that I've eaten! Take care buddy!
Todd Wittenmyer I came up with the sponge idea for turtles after seeing people use sponges to hold dip baits for catfish. There are a lot of similarities between catfishing and turtling. Take care brother.
Great video brother...That's going to make for some good soup and eating up...Big Turtle also...I'm going to give turtle trapping here this year in a big river where I musky fish but I'm going to use hooks and fish...Our season doesn't open until July though...
Heith Gagnon You guys seem to have really healthy rivers up that way. I've been enjoying your fishing and minnow vids. Really liked the minnow trap review. Take care!
My dad trapped turtles in East and South East Alabama for many years. people just don't know how good the meat is. I think that his largest was an Alligator Snapper that weighed 49 lbs.
That looks like a neat turtle trap, and I got to find out where they sell them. Looking forward to seeing how you clean your turtles. I have eaten them only once, and they are really delicious. Take care and be safe.
Here in Arkansas, in order to target ANY aquatic turtle I have to purchase a fishing license (10.50$), a commercial fishing license (35$), and an "aquatic turtle permit" (125$). Is that not RIDICULOUS?
Can have 3 in possession per licensed fisherman here in MN ..... but that is only if caught by attended fishing line, dip net, or by hand from the road...... if using a trap- still can have 3 in possession , still need a fishing license ($26) + extra recreational turtle license ($25) , aquatic invasive species infested waterways tag ($0) & a 3rd tag with name, address & license number visible from the top of the trap. Putting mine out today.
Well arkansas was known for really heavily harvesting turtles. I'm the on that convinced Arkansas to shut down the alligator snapping turtle unlimited take as they were all going to Louisiana in 1993.
Billy Skinner buy some 2inch*4inch fencing. make it round and zip tie or wire together. or even hog clamps work better. then get a net like a landing net just the net now and tie it to one end. then cut the center and use 2 strings to pull it into the trap to make your funal. and on the back just close it up
I SEEN BIG SNAPPERS BITE A 4 INCH SAICK CLEAN INTO. TAKING A FINGER PART IF A HAND OR A TOE. NO PROBLEMS. RESPECT THOSE CRITTERS. GOOD EATING RIGHT THERE BROTHER GOD BLESS
We can't take snapping turtles (smooth shell or alligator) ever here myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/managed/freshwater-turtles/ . In Florida we can take freshwater turtles by hand, dip net, minnow seine or baited hook, but taking turtles with bucket traps, snares, or shooting with firearms is prohibited (they sure don't make it easy). But you can take some pretty big sliders with a baited hook and bobber. I have eaten a Loggerhead Sea turtle many years ago when was young and it was still legal (about 50 years ago), it was really good. So I am going to try a slider the next time I go fishing, thanks for the tutorial. Eating wild beats Red-Slimed GMO any day!
Are there any regulations that address turtle trapping (season, catch limits, size requirements etc). Just wondering because it would be pretty easy to wipe out a local population without proper management. Thanks

That sponge is a great idea, I always use a spray bottle. Gonna try that out.

Newt Sterling sells them. Tell him Meattrapper sent ya. www.snareone.com/turtle.html
I’m from England and I love you’re Chanel I wish I had land like you
That's one thing I want to start doing with my boys. Looking forward to future videos. Thanks for posting them.
Sam Rickrode Any kind of trapping is good. Staying on the water in the off season is a great way to scout for next season as well.
If you have a pet snapper don't grab by the tail it can cause damage to it and will make it mad
Thanks Trapper, looking forward to the butchering video. take care.

Well arkansas was known for really heavily harvesting turtles. I'm the on that convinced Arkansas to shut down the alligator snapping turtle unlimited take as they were all going to Louisiana in 1993.
is it possible to keep and feed the turtle and grow it for a few months ?
Barry Remainder Sure, but you'd need a bigger tank, you'd need to keep the water aerated and of course feed it.
Yes.
that's how it works with sweeting an animal or cleaning out an animal.
Can u make a video of how to make the trap
