Real sad to hear of his passing, am a fan of Sanborn's music, humble man, what enjoyment his music brought, liked his Jazz connection, am mainly a smooth jazz fan, sad too that don't hear much jazz in major big city where I first heard it. Cancer a deadly disease. SMH!
RIP. I can't believe he's gone. Looks like prostate cancer took away another of my heroes. First Frank Zappa, now David Sanborn. This is my fave song he ever did. So beautiful. 😢 💔
Always loved David Sanborn, and this song is one of the reasons why! Dramatic and understated, it makes you want to hear the next story his music is going to tell.
I was at this concert in 1981, at the tender age of 14 years old! The bans is: Mike Manieri: vibes Robben Ford: guitar Neil Larsen: keyboards Marcus Miller: bass Ricky Lawson: drums Lenny Castro: percussion I don't believe this was David Sanborn's regular touring band, rather a mix of various bands that played in Montreux over those two nights (Ford and Lawson with the Yellowjackets, Manieri with Micahel Brecker and Warren Bernhard, Neil Larsen with Buzzy Feiten, and so on).
MYTHIQUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guy😢
deepkeel65 Wow, that's terrific! I know you'll have a blast seeing the master sax player himself and whatever type of great players is backing him up! Mike Manieri, huh, what an exceptional talent he is, glad he's still alive and kicking!
Loving the space eceryone gets :) So beautiful thank you for sharing ~ noe that zylofon wäaaang ~ mmm oh my oh my ...all are so fanstatic * I can listen over and over again .-.this is pure Joy ..Love Blossoms :)
Very beautiful composition, makes one wonder... Is he really this great, or is he just faking it! My hat goes off to DS, he is one of my all-time favorites!
This piece is not composed by David Sanborn, although everything in the title & description would understandably lead one to think that it was. I'm 99% certain that this was written by the fabulous Don Grolnick. His beautiful writing is unmistakable.
This piece is has all of the trademarks of something written by the great Don Grolnick... yet no mention of the person responsible for composing this? I don't get it.

I'm bereft with grief. Go with God, Sanborn.

absolutely right, that was a Warner Music production a one time only under the management of Tommy LiPuma and Claude Nobs
Not many people can make the alto sound so rich and diverse, but Sandman? That boy good!!!!
Nothing to say! Just beautiful!
This is one of Sanborn's rare performances playing a Yamaha alto sax and not one of his Selmer Mark VI's.
What a band! Sanborn at his best :-D
Wonderful solo by Mr Manieri!
One of the best
This song bring back memories

A lovely tune, written by Michael Franks, Don Grolnick.
That's my favorite horn player of all time up there! And the vibe player is tremendous, I mean you don't see them often in jazz setups anymore!...
Mike Manieri on vibes. About 76 years old now. Gorgeous playing, isn't it? Going to see David Sanborn TONIGHT!!!

It's amazing how different his sound is on this Yamaha vs. Selmer.
rk702 I was like.......oh I see it- that forked F on the Yamaha - major difference-Yamaha-2 frequencies high/mid. Selmer-3 frequencies high/mid/low
Why did he switch? Did someone stole his YAS?
this was my first Sanborn song. not too frilly but still very rich
This is a Michael Franks composition
