I have run across this problem before. Nice to know that there are Special Blanks to solve this common #Lockboss Problem. I WILL be purchasing these to have on hand.
Thanks PJ! This #lockboss ran into trouble one night at an apartment complex and couldn't duplicate KW1 because it wouldn't fit the defiants on the apartment doors. Finally figured out the EZ1 keys and I've been stocking them ever since. Haven't run into the problem with any other keyway yet, but it never hurts to be prepared.
I thought I was losing my mind I couldn't get these keys in and I was supplied with 50 dead bolts and had to rekill them all and couldn't get the new keys to work Great information PJ # lock boss
Now that can and will be a great fix for this issue ... I have run into that problem on numerous occasions and once again y'all have a solution for the problem.... Thank you once again PJ.. #LockBoss
Stinks that the knock-offs can't hold their tolerances to the same standard as the originals, but nice to have an easy solution for dealing with those locks. #lockboss
Goodness…thank you! I’ve come across the cheap KW1 keyways A LOT. Rcently I needed to purchase 2 Defiant electronic deadbolts (I needed the KW keyway). Much to my dismay, BOTH came with what looked like the SC keyway, but no original or blank SC1 keys would fit. It was important to note that NOTHING on the outer packaging indicated the keyway. I was so shocked I called Defiant and was told basically, nothing they could do, they can’t be rekeyed. I will have to order these EZ keys and try them. This #lockboss thanks you, CLK!
I have come across this before, but didn't know there was a fix. I've tried to decide some cylinders and padlocks with my Lishi tools and the tool wouldn't do into the lock. M1 was one and SC1 was the other that I've come across. Thanks PJ and CLK!! #Lockboss
I ran into this last week. SC1 blank (or should have been)... Not only was the keyway a little too narrow to accept a proper SC1 with it being thinned, but the spacing was incorrect. Had to file down the shoulder of the blank so it would align properly. What a pain. Thanks PJ, didn't know about these. Will definitely be ordering some in. Even if the shoulder alignment is still a problem sometimes, it would be less work than modifying the milling. #Lockboss
At my store we have people coming in with cheap padlock keys so close to a m1 blank but a little thinner, we will order some of these and give it a shot. #Lockboss
I'm not really in the locksmith industry due to poor hand coordination. Cutting keys maybe the only thing that I could do. Excellent Videos even if I'm not in the Locksmithing trade, it's always interesting to see what new in residential and commercial security. #LOCKBOSS
Just finished master keying 190 customers supplied m/s cylinders and sure enough ran into this situation. Also noted the the top pins were slightly rounded which caused issues. Had to replace top pins to correct the flaw. #lockboss
Great solution! I've had this issue when trying to rekey knockoff cylinders to match Schlage OEM ones . The knockoff ones were not to soec, so I had to use shorter pins! #LOCKBOSS
Good idea to pick up a pack of each, especially with people buying and installing locks on the cheap. I personally haven't encountered this yet, as i am fairly new, but why wait? #Lockboss
i have ran into this several times with KW1 and a couple times with SC1 and M1. I have also had people wanting EZ keys duplicated and I honestly thought that they were for EZ GO golf carts until now.
These are a great resource for those tricky import locks as we refer to them. Amazon can be amazing for something’s, but anything with a key should be avoided! Hopefully, keys like these will help us out a little bit #lockboss
We got one of these in our garage door. We didn't know for over 20 years. Some copies work and some don't depending on the blank. Wish I knew about the EZ2 when I placed my order.
The most common issue I run into in the field is when using nickel plated blanks regardless of brand in Defiant(home depot) brand knobs/db's. I'll have to give these a try but it's just been easier to use plain brass in the Defiants. #lockboss
I knew about the ez keys (kwikset anyway) but didn’t know they were slightly different sized for knockoff brands. This is great, I never knew this gonna get me some. #LockBoss
Gonna have to place an order, I guess. I've had more customers bring in miscut keys from hardware stores than I can count. Their primary focus isn't keys. Axxess plus keys are the worst. They are rarely aligned properly when cut. One of the local chain stores has a manual duplicator and one specific employee runs the cutter across very fast once in each direction. I've been told he has a 50% return rate for miscuts. He's no longer allowed to do keys. But I have EZ1 and EZ2 already on my board. #lockboss
I have run into some padlock with knockoff M1 key. This is a good idea that ilco made something like that to have just in case situation. Thanks for sharing this information. #Lockboss
Thanks again PJ. I recently ran into a key that looked like a WR5 but the WR5 blank wouldn't work. I was able to get a KW1 to work and copied key to it. These keys may have been another option. #Lockboss
I run into M1’s that are too thick to go into master or master knockoff padlocks. Probably the ones I have issues with the most. Thanks for sharing! #lockboss
This #Lockboss has ran into that problem many times. If I am at the lock I just pry open the cylinder a little, or have filed down the blade some. But having some of those ez keys would be a good idea.
Generally, when i come to these in the field, i offer to replace them. But for walk ins, i can see where this is a good pack to have. Always glad to check into these specials #Lockboss
Hey PJ, if the client is not bringing in the lock, how do you know the key won't fit? If someone is bringing in a specific brand of hardware store key, should you go straite to the EZ key ? There has to be more to this. #Lockboss
Here is a good one I had a customer bring me 5 sets of kwikset knobs and dead bolts still in original packaging to be rekeyed to the same key I took out one of the original keys that came in one of the sets and started to rekey the locks to that key after rekeying several cylinders all of a sudden that key would not go into the next cylinder and several of the others. I found that a ilco KW1 would go into all of them. #lockboss
When I run into this problem I am on site with the lock and I am rekeying them to a new key. So I try a few handful of blanks till I find enough keys that are requested. But this sounds like it would be good to have on the van. #Lockboss
Random question for anyone with any ideas: putting my new work van together and I’m tired of my metal stamps that are in a wooden block jumping up and going everywhere in my van. Does anyone have any ideas to keep the block set stationary besides just using screws on each side? I hope that made sense lol.
CLK Solutions has a nice ring to it 👍. It's great to know you always stand in the #Lockboss corner for the right advice, solutions, tools, and equipment. I'm certainly glad you're there. 👊
Will they work on the regular locks and the knockoffs? I'm just curious if we still need to carry both kw1 and EZ1 or can these EZ1 keys be the only ones we need. #Lockboss
I just sell them better quality locks that work with standard keys. I don't even stock kwikset hardware. If I wont use it on my property I wont stock it.

Fortunately I don’t have to deal with those knockoffs #lockboss
I don't think I've ever been happier to primarily be an industrial and commercial locksmith...
Thank you guys! These are good blanks for the #lockboss in the field to know about.
Thanks for the explanation, CLK! 🔓
Definitely going the EZ way. Thanks PJ #Lockboss
I knew there was an easy one I didn't know about the others
Awesome to know you carry these, I will definitely start carrying some of them. #Lockboss
Hey, That’s EZ!!!
#LOCKBOSS
Thanks PJ . I have defiantly run into these issues #Lockboss
Stinks that the knock-offs can't hold their tolerances to the same standard as the originals, but nice to have an easy solution for dealing with those locks. #lockboss
I’ve not had this issue, but now that you’ve made me aware of it, I’m sure it will happen all the time. Thanks PJ!😂 #Lockboss

We knew about the EZ keys and they were thinner. Never realized this was the reason. #lockboss
Great tutorial pj hits it out of the ball park like normal #lockboss
I was aware of the ILCO EZ key series but was unaware of this usage. Always learning new things as a #lockboss
It's great the CLK takes such great care of the #lockboss industry
Thanks, PJ. #Lockboss
It’s very unfortunate these keys have to be made, but to good to know CLK has a option for us. #lockboss
I never heard of this issue before. Thanks for the info. #LockBoss
have been having the problem great to hear that a key is now on the market to solve the problem #lockboss
Have had this problem thanks now I can be a #lockboss

I've seen them, but I didn't know what they were for. Love learning new things to add to my tool kit! #lockboss
I have never heard of the knockoff #lockboss
#Lockboss thank goodness they finally have a work around for this problem. Thanks for the info
Great Solution! Thanks #Lockboss
Good to know thanks #LockBoss
Great video #lockboss
Good idea putting in the links to the common keys. Happens alot. #lockboss
Thanks for the info on the knockoffs definitely helping me become a #Lockboss

Lucky enough not to have seen the SC4 and WR5 trash knockoffs yet, but have thinned down the other 3 to get them to work. Good solution. #Lockboss
Great info. #Lockboss

Wow, that’s great information, didn’t know of this. I’ve had to grind standard blanks to make them thinner, especially M1#lockboss
i have ran into this several times with KW1 and a couple times with SC1 and M1. I have also had people wanting EZ keys duplicated and I honestly thought that they were for EZ GO golf carts until now.

We got one of these in our garage door. We didn't know for over 20 years. Some copies work and some don't depending on the blank. Wish I knew about the EZ2 when I placed my order.
Good info #Lockboss
Very good to know #Lockboss
there are a lot of knockoffs where i'm from.
I run into this a lot with "well, we bought the locks online" situations. My key stock only comes from the quality stock at CLK.
The most common issue I run into in the field is when using nickel plated blanks regardless of brand in Defiant(home depot) brand knobs/db's. I'll have to give these a try but it's just been easier to use plain brass in the Defiants. #lockboss

#lockboss solution. Would love to try these
yea me too i runs across the Kwikset the most because they go after the cheap lock and dexter locks to but i get them to fit

Have ran into is issue with the m1 and the brinks padlock. Good to know there is a solution. # lockboss
I'm lucky,I have not run into this much. But good to know that if I do, I have help .#lockboss
Already carry the EZ1. Haven't ran into the others yet. Wonder if a LISHI fits in the bad knock offs? #LockBoss

i like bow of the ez2 . it doesn't look close to an sc1. so someone can't id your key by the shape, a dnd key will do that also #lockboss

hey so these keys will work well in the original keyways as well.
Yes
Wonder if you could take a bandfile to the key and just make it slightly thinner? Do you have a lock that you could try this on?
I believe you can -PJ
The #Lockboss concept of supplying pieces to fit that which, regrettably, is in common use makes good sense!
Always good to hear these details that might not be know by every #lockboss otherwise!
PJ always has the answer. Appreciate CLK !!! #LOCKBOSS
Not surprised CLK Supplies has a solution to this issue for their #LockBoss community. Thanks PJ and CLK Supplies

The cost of the EZ Set KW1 do cost more so definitely charge accordingly. I'm seeing ilco go up on many key blanks.
#ockBosss, #LoccBouss #bossLock, Bad copies won't work the same as #LockBoss will !!!! Be an Original, not a NockOff !!!
have an original great day
#Lockboss. OMG. I normally file them down. Never knew something like this was available. This prove that you care! Thanks PJ and CLK Supplies!
Another #lockboss move by PJ and CLK Supplies!
I just sell them better quality locks that work with standard keys. I don't even stock kwikset hardware. If I wont use it on my property I wont stock it.
