The reason Eddie chose to add Lucy, is because they believe that it was essential for both Cartman and Charlie’s characters to “lose” in a sense. What’s what makes them likeable. Cartman being a horrible person is funny bc everyone calls him out for it, and Charlie constantly getting beat down but never giving up is what makes us root for him. In a rap battle SOMEBODY has to win, which means Eddie thought they’d be breaking characters, and the fundamental storytelling methods of both series.
They also felt like Charlie going full smackdown with petty insults would be out of character. Adding Lucy solved both of those problems, as she gets to “rep” the Peanuts side, but very much tells them both off. Her temperament was also much better to match Cartman and give him a taste of his own medicine.

Actually they took inspiration from the Simpsons originally the Simpsons design was supposed to look like south park but disney didn't like the design of the original Simpsons and it came off as not kid friendly. So the Simpsons made changes to fit the disney style.

@toongodlive yep, the original Simpsons idea was going to have dark humor but Warner Brothers didn't like it so they went with fox they liked character but they also didn't like the dark humor. So they scraped the dark humor idea and made it family friendly.it got popular and disney bought fox entertainment to get the Simpsons.because disney ran out of ideas because of the mickey mouse protection act.

@@bringtolife2586 The Simpsons began as a series of shorts on _The Tracy Ulman Show,_ a variety sketch show on the then-new Fox TV network. Those shorts were more primitively drawn and animated (the version of Homer seen in that scene of this video is from those shorts, not the main series), and had much darker humor.
