    I've had this exact set for about year and half and love it. When i travel, this is the set that goes with me. I havent used Koi tubes so cannot comment on that.

    I have an older tube set a yes the binder separation was a thing from way back. Giving the tube a gentle massage before opening quickly mixes the binder back in and since I use the tubes to load pans it's not a huge problem. I rate them as student grade with some professional qualities and now they're avaliable individually. From your swatching it looks like the tude paints go down a bit more transparently.

    This is one of my first sets and I took it on vacation with me to learn and practice while I was stuck in hotel room and I loved working with them. It was inexpensive and I recommend it for beginners.

    The cadmium red in this set is cadmium red hue which usually means it is made to look like cadmium but doesn't use the real cadmium pigment.(so safe to use).
    I have the 30 set of these. I really enjoy them. I also have the special set with the metallic and the neons. I love the neon colors but the metallic ones are just ok.

      Thank you for this! That's interesting about the cad red as well as the metallic ones. I had my eye on some of them, maybe I will pass on that part!

    I asked for watercolors for Christmas and I blindly chose these since they seemed to be a good intro set. I’m so glad I chose wisely. New subscriber, and I can’t wait to watch more videos!

    I agree 100% with your assessments on the Koi watercolor, both the pans and the tubes. Love my pans, hate my tubes. I have taken to storing my tubes standing on their caps, which has helped the separation (for now at least.)

    I've always loved you and Andrea and now I LOVE you even more because of your Moogie ratings. I had 2 dogs that have since passed that meant a lot to me. Holly Jolly (our English Bulldog. She was the ONLY dog I have EVER purchased. She was my hubby's Christmas present hence her name. All our other dogs and cats have been rescues) and Sandy Cheeks (our rescue). When my husband passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53, I knew our 2 baby daughters, and 2 baby sons as well as NUMEROUS dogs and cats were welcoming him).

    I have two 24 sets, one is the metallic and neons. But! The plastic palette started to crack. I re-homed the cubes to half pans & placed in a vintage tin. The Koi container is now one of my Daniel Smith traveling cases, (I love the tray, plus I hate throwing things away that can be reused) I poured and added half pans, h20 brush and sponge. Happy Painting 🎨

    I have the tube set. And while I have multiple professional sets, I do like the koi as well. It does separate, I use a large needle to stir. Also, the light fastness isn’t great. BUT sometimes I need a low pressure paint to just have fun with and these are great for that

    ❤❤❤ I surely enjoyed watching your your swatching . What I also liked is how you divided your chart . The only thought that I have is what Kind of paper is the best for the colours. I prefer using a 300gr. paper. Thank you 😊😊❤

    I started my watercolor journey with the koi 30 set and I liked them. Then I started using a good paper and really liked them. I use them with my Schpirerr Farben set now. The two work beautifully and my Koi is almost empty:(

    I also barely use ultramarine though for me the only exception is ultramarine from Sennelier, it is just stunning and works great in mixes :) Thank you for the video! :)

    Sadly for Christmas my sister got me the tube set! If poured them in pallet would they still perform like the tubes or like the dry cakes?
    Wish they would add the pigment information!

      I haven't tried it with koi specifically but yes you can put them in pans and dry them to use them like that!

    Funny, I just got a set of these and was super disappointed. They seem more like solid paints to me, like a gauche. Not fun and flowy like I'm used to. The word I used for them was dull. I also hated how small the paints were, making it hard to not bump into the neighboring paints. And the paints aren't movable. I grew up using Sakura, and thought it was an ok paint, but a few years ago someone recommended the Cotman paints from Windsor Newton and I picked up the tiny little 12 half pan set and I love it. I also have some more expensive watercolors in tubes, but really just love using that little Cotman set. I guess I will just get a new set of those, and maybe give away the Koi one, since I really just don't like it. Unless I keep it to use for more solid coloring stuff instead of gauche.

      Her (Lacey) dog is named Moogie so she was just having fun with “Moogie” ratings instead of just “points” 7/10 Moogies sounds better than 7/10 points! 😆 there have also been @rebelunicorn videos of paintings of Moogie which are fun! Happy painting!!

    This is gonna be 2 years late, but will there be a comparison video for the tubes and the pans?
    Either the tubes or the pans has been in my wishlist. Even though I have the Cotman set, I like the color selection and portability of the Koi, and since I use gouache, opacity is a semi-issue to me.
    It's also kinda a frustration that there are few videos reviewing the Koi tubes and comparing it to the much talked-about pans, so I was hoping if there's your review from the tubes.

    • @Joy.Elizabeth
      @Joy.Elizabeth Год назад +1

      Hi I don't know if you found it yet but she did do a video on the koi tubes. unfourt RUclips will delete my comment for including a link so hopefully you can find it by searching for the title ' Koi Watercolors First Impressions, What in the World?? ' it's from 2 years ago
      She shows the same type of swatching and what she was talking about with the tubes not mixing well. Def seems like the pans are better for these at least!
      Btw reading more comments it seems there's several people who really disliked the set bc of how bad the opacity was. I'm not sure if you meant you wanted high opacity since you work with gouache too or you meant you wanted something transparent bc of that so just a heads up.

    • @AlexYorim
      @AlexYorim Год назад

      @@Joy.Elizabeth I was saying opacity is a low issue for me, except when mixing black and dark colors, considering I also paint with gouache and just wanted vibrant colors.👍🏽
      The few dislikes I have about the pans is that the Crimson is too faint and their Burnt is too reddish and opaque, while the tube Crimson is quite pink enough and their Burnt Sienna is opaque enough to see the orange undertone.

    I actually disliked this one it was super chalky and the thin plastic material holding the paint looked awfully cheap after some time and honestly a dollar for the small amount of paint this has just doesn’t justify it there are better student grade paints than this one
