Well, if you painted them and sealed the paint with a varnish, it's pretty safe to toss them in, but yeah, the bases need to come off on the monsters. Unless you rebased them on round (transparent) bases, you could toss the square bases, and use that space to store them.

No good if you’ve based and painted the figures unfortunately. Shame.
