I heard "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in the winter of '81, on NPR right after Star Wars. After a lengthy quest I finally found the entire original radio series, in mint condition, on MP3 disc. Better than being scalped for it on CD. This is one of the best bits, along with Valentine Dial escorting Zaphod into the total perspective vortex. Dial had James Earl Jones' voice before James Earl Jones was anybody.
The Radio Series - was and still is - the best.
Marvin’s delivery is perfect!
Just superb. Even 40yrs on it's still superb... :o)

Not an electronic sausage
Well, the robot with a brain the size of a planet outsmarted him. Granted, that's not saying much.
That battle tank yelled "HELL'S BELLS". It's in the book. For fucks sake.
The radio version in this case, is the original. The books came after.
HELLS BELLS!!!
Damn right.
That makes me angry, think I’ll take this wall down
What a depressingly stupid machine!
