    For the next Katrina, bulletproof vests for firefighters?

    • @LoneTombolo
      @LoneTombolo 4 года назад +1

      silver scout actually bullet proof vests for firefighter and emergency medical services is more common then you think. It falls under our category of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). As a first responder we are right there on the scene with the police staging whether it be an active shooter, or just a civil dispute. People forget to remember that criminals no matter what will get access to firearms and in turn will use them against anyone they feel is a threat to them in example a first responder. For the most part except for some states every single United States citizen can buy military grade body armor to protect themselves from active shooters. Only makes sense that the medics and firefighters staging on the same active shooter scene as the police get to wear bullet proof vests as they put their lives on the line to maybe be able to reach a mass casualty scenario and save all life possible. I believe the first responder in this video who say the intentions are for high winds as we know the faster an object is moving the more force it has hence the more penetration. That armored vehicle serves as a safe haven from 60mph debris as well as protection is active shooter scenarios. This is in no means a militarization rather a realization that today we need to implement protective countermeasures in order to ensure life of both parties. In this question are you saying first responders should not have the right to be protected from gunfire when trying to preserve life?

    Could have used this in North Carolina earlier this week when the two troopers were killed, along with the parents of the shooter, instead of having at least one firefighter who was shot as well.

      David Grover it’s one truck, for an entire city, it’s not going to be as useful as you think. I’m a firefighter, and this is not needed in any way, shape or form.

    • @davidgrover5996

      Jim Wilson, It is one truck for a situation that if people followed the evacuation orders should not happen at all so it will be rare.
      And you should know that.
      Just like the county’s incident command truck (We use a trailer in my county.) or the swat team’s armored personnel carrier (We use an old M113 APC here.) it is around for that once a year problem and will handle much lesser issues just fine.
      When it is that or a nearby department’s turn for a rescue during a North Hollywood style shootout, Riot, or just a hurricane that will be invaluable.
