- Walk around San Antonio Fire Department’s Velocity® Non-Walk-In HDR with Fire Engineer William Weeks and Technical Rescue Team Member Christopher Young. The department chose an extended front bumper, allowing them to store a 15,000 lb. winch that the rescue team can use on scene. Throughout the apparatus storage each discipline has its own compartment ensuring that every team member knows where equipment is. Hatch compartments provide the department space to carry wood and other supplies to scenes involving structural impairment.

Now THIS is what I call custom. Really state of the art and a lot of thought put into this rescue. Much congratulations and luck on the rolls with this beauty of a beast.
They done their homework when building this rig!! It’s good that many departments are allowing crews to design and layout how their rigs are built rather than a person who hasn’t been riding apparatus for 15 years to make purchasing decisions.
Not true at all i work on fire trucks and we have a spartan,Ferrara, e one and some pierce and they know exactly what we need and they have a good retaliations with metro fire which is our dealership.
@@mauricemotors8207 I was referring to its good that guys who are riding the rigs to design and layout how the rigs are built rather than the chief or chief officers making the decisions because majority of Chief officers haven’t rode rigs in at least 15 years or more and a lot has changed over the years. Our department we have an apparatus committee made up of personnel who are still riding rigs to make decisions. We have E-One’s, Sutphens and Pierce we have been with Pierce since 2009 our goal is to be 100% Pierce fleet.
Very nice truck and very well laid out.
This is the product of a premier builder working with a department that does its homework and allows the members to design a truck around their needs.

First US Truck I see using those standplates down the compartments. Pretty standard here in Europe.

@@hunchojack1858 We mean those plates at the bottom of the compartments that you can fold down and stand on them to have easier access to the equipment. (At 2:18 for example)

talking to Weeks once up at Pierce on a final, asked about the roof light bar made up of multiple single Whelen lights... Reason, they can replace a single strobe easier than an entire light bar. This was their custom made solution

What a project! I generally don't like massive American rigs but what a piece of engineering is this! Interesting hearing about the clean-cab initiative and going "back" placing SCBAs not in the cab.
Seems well thought out and laid out. The 'clean cab' initive is very progressive and something we are going to see a lot of.
I also think it was implemented right here... access to gear is there but still secure, and it seems like they can wear it in the cab, and you tend not to need packs as rapidly on a rescue and really... it takes all of 45 seconds to don a pack from the outside. Well done to SAFD!

I can’t wait to see it on the streets of San Antonio. My only comment is, why isn’t there a Generator on this truck?
Don't need one anymore. Everything's going battery now, so a genset has become extemporaneous weight.
Generators mainly powered scene lighting and certain tools. Now scene lighting is all 12v LED and can run off the truck battery. There is almost 0 reason to have a generator now.

Nice rig. I'm actually surprised that you're going with Hurst edraulics over Genesis with having all the Milwaukee power tools, then you can keep one standard battery protocol for all the equipment.
Big city firemen need a whole truck for rescue. Lol come to rural sector . Nice rig guys stay safe . Citizens are lucky in your area to have all of that .
I looked to see how new it is -- it was delivered 11/30/20. But it does look like a nice urban rescue rig.

There really ulgy alot of deaprments in texas use them and tgere actully pretty hard on the eyes
@@NickJ01 I don’t mind seeing one or two here and there, but to have (almost) every single light head on the truck, including the lightbar populated with rota beam’s - I am just not a fan. I’d also argue that that particular setup is far less effective than other options available today.

We have a clean cabin initiative. More and more departments are going to that now because of the cancer risk.
@@navblue20 it’s stupid, nobody wants to get cancer but this is what we all signed up for. Chances are you going to get it more from firefighting then from the cab being dirty.delayed tactics get people killed. Seems like we put lives and property last. Stay safe.
