- FDNY Rescue Company 5 is a 2019 Ferrara Heavy Rescue Truck. There is a total of 5 Heavy Rescues throughout New York City, one per boroughs. Rescue Companies respond to all major incidents throughout the City. A Rescue is assigned to all structure fires or when a 10-75 (Emergency) Signal is given. They also respond to High Rise 10-76 & 10-77 Signals. They are assigned to all minor and major matrix assignments from scaffolding collapses, vehicle into structures, confined space, subway emergencies, train derailments, Entrapments, person under the train, building collapses, high angel rescues, they are also SCUBA trained and are the first divers to go into the water. All Rescue members are trained and qualified in 40 Hours of Collapse Rescue Training, 40 Hours of Confined Space Training, 40 Hours of Trench Rescue Training, 80 Hours of Hi-Angle Rescue Training, 100 Hours of SCUBA Training, 80 Hours of Rescue Technician Level I & II and are all Hazmat Technician Level II Certified.
Rescue Companies have a "Truck" Response Area that they respond to and a Rescue Response Area. The Truck Response area is if they arrive on scene before the first due ladder. They will respond to almost everything mainly any phone alarms in that first due truck area.
Depending on the area each rescue carries a little more then others. Rescue 1 carries more ropes for the tall buildings where Rescue 5 doesn't have as many but all rescues have the ability to work in any area of the city. Rescue 5 doesn't carry the zodiac boat as they are quartered with Tactical Support Unit 2. All other rescues have them on the truck. All Rescues have a 2nd Piece being the Collapse Rescues that have extra supplies. The Tactical Support Units, Squad Companies and SOC Support Ladders all support the Rescue Companies with extra Equipment.
Rescue Companies have 15, 30, 45 and 60 minute Cylinders. They have Rigging Gear, Torches, Cutting systems, generators, subway equipment, all different kinds of saws, all kinds of jacks, pavement breakers, all truck company tools, hazmat metering,

@@stueyexmcfd no each rescue is different.

Yeah sadly they all have issues and always OOS. Won’t see another Ferrara Rescue that’s for sure! Seagrave the next rescues

Thanks for Another Awesome and Informative Fleet Friday Skyler! I've always wondered what type of Rescue gear and how much are carried on those Massive FDNY Rescues and Thanks to Fleet Friday Now I know!👍
Thanks for watching
@@SkylerFire You're Welcome!
Nothing look new everything looks like it is used often which is great that means lives are being saved by this unit
For sure
Love the video! Any idea where I could find specs, drawings, or equipment list for FDNY Rescues?
Not released to the public. Thanks for watching
Morming. Awesome “Toolbox”. Love it. So does FDNY require so many years of engine & ladder experience to be on one of these rescue crews or do guys get assigned straight out of the academy? Thanks. - Retired Deputy Fire Chief here from Missouri.
5 or 7 years before you can work in SOC
Great Video and great Rig. Finally a detailed look inside an FDNY Rescue! Do you know whats Inside the collapse entry bag shown in a compartment?
Collapse Entry bag is mostly hand tools like power drills and batteries
Thanks!
Awesome walk through 😊. Are the other 4 Rescues set up the same? Thx in advance and keep them coming.
Thanks! Each Rescue is setup up different. R1 has a lot more ropes.
This is great. By chance, can you get one of the rescue Medic units?
Thanks. Trying to figure it out
Would be cool to see them use the torch in action. I know a lot of rescues around the country have them but I’ve never seen them in use before, and what would they be used
Yeah idk thanks
I guess rescues no longer carry a Lyle gun for throwing ropes. I don’t know about the rest of the rescues on their logos but one is actually pictured on rescue 1. I believe there’s also an air compressor on these units if I remember correctly.
They did it was inside.
Always surprised that the companies don’t have a standard power tool battery. Also I thought FDNY uses Hurst tools only
Hurst is on all Ladder, Tower Ladders, Tillers
Genesis is on all the Rescues and the TNT setup. Spare rescues have the Hurst
Does all heavy rescues have the same tools and configurations??? Sorry I don't speak English. I don't know if I writed right. See you from Cuba. I love heavy rescues and I love your videos.
All rescues are different Rescues 1 carries more
@@SkylerFire OMG!
Leandro, your English language is OK, some small mistakes, but definitely better than some people who speak English as their first language.
Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Skyler, great video, but I had a question. I did not see a lot of cribbing on rescue 5. Do the rescues not run with a lot of it or did I just miss it? Thanks!
So each rescue is based off their response area on how much they go to them. Rescue 1 has more because they do a lot of scaffolding incidents. Thats usually what rescues keep enough for. Anything else the Collapse Rescue goes to the call. Each rescue has one.
I guess FDNY allows the Rescues to use the Q2B siren
Shops puts them on
Do the various FDNY Rescue's differ slightly in what they carry, based on their areas of coverage?
@@duenge yes
Just a question... do you know why they stick with Seagrave for engines and trucks but never do you see a Seagrave rescue?
It goes by the cheapest bid and the spec… the next rescues are more then likely going to be Seagrave after all the issues with the Ferrara rescues.
are all the rescues outfitted the same?
No
Yay😊
👍
How many MERV units does the FDNY have, and the one I always see in the videos, appears to be a refurbished school bus, and which station is it based out of?
Supposed to be 5 and I believe that’s in the Bronx Station 20
Do they ever send a ladder unit on an EMS run? I mean the ladder units in my state do that.
Used to years ago now only engine companies, closest thing they go to EMS is elevators
Rescue 6 please
Or reserve rescue
Rescue 6 coming soon
hazmat 1 or collapse rescue next
Collapse is next. Hazmat new rig still hasn’t come back yet.
@@SkylerFire nice 👍, love fleet Fridays
did you already do a review on rescue one cuz I'd like to see that
No I didn’t.
@@SkylerFire well maybe next time when you do a fleet Friday can you review rescue one
No boat?
It’s kept on the collapse. They are quartered with the TSU and they have a boat. All other rescues carry the boat on the rig
R 1 is the best though
Outstanding
Always the best
Get Hurst... im just sayin
Ladder companies have Hurst. The Genesis are more powerful.
Genesis also can use non propriety batteries (Milwaukee) which are a lot cheaper to replace meaning more spares for longer jobs at a fraction of the cost, also the handles turn to get into better positions.
