@@MiguelHernandez-rk7bg It is virtually impossible for anyone in a society such as ours to have achieved anything on their own! To believe so is shortsighted and narrow minded, if not egotistic. Very few can truthfully say they have. Those are limited to the pioneers who struck out on their own and built their homesteads in the wilderness without assistance and, the even fewer unfortunate souls who became lost at sea but were fortunate enough to land on a deserted island with enough resources to survive.

Because conservatives have spent the last 40 years dunking on liberals, but not (actual) socialists, so they have no script for it that hasn't been played out to death. At the same time, many conservatives see the death and destruction that capitalism is doing to families and communities through the rapacious health insurance industry, finance capital, and neoliberalisation. Tucker Carlson has been the leading Fox Host to criticize the ruling capitalist elites for desiccating society and robbing the economy.
At the same time, liberals hate socialists more than they hate the far-right, since it is only socialists who pose a threat to their material interests. Chris Matthews doesn't care that Trump puts immigrants in concentration camps and builds the murderous wall or war-mongers against Iran, but to him Sanders' plan to tax the incomes of the rich at higher levels is literally the Nazis conquering France. The other thing is that Sanders is basically proving elite liberals and their worldview entirely wrong. They've been saying that the country is center-right and that progressives and leftists will lose as it it was still 1978. Their zombie ideas have finally hit a wall.

      @@BjarkeDuDe 1st comment:
So much is wrong with this, so I will start here. Presently, the tax brackets for the United States are as follows: $0-9,525 (10%), $9526-$38,700 (12%), $38,701-$82,500 (22%), $82,501-$157,500 (24%), $157,501-$200,000 (32%), $200,001-$500,000 (35%), and finally $500,001+ (37%) (Smartasset). America's top 5% are estimated to earn $448,489+ per year, with the top 0.1% earning $1,260,508 annually and the top 0.1% earning 6,087,113 annually by average (Equitablegrowth). Currently speaking, if the tax brackets go unchanged, this means that around 18-23% of wealth (estimations vary - Brooking's institute) annually goes to this top 1%. I will do you the favor, as you so perfectly ignored me, to do the math for you and graciously, I will include the top 5% as being an 80% tax of their 18% of total income received.
US GDP currently stands for Q4 of 2018 as $20,891,400,000,000 (Thebalance). 18% of this: $3,760,452,000,000 (net income) to 23% 4,805,022,000,000 (net income). Taxing the rich at a rate of 80% (aka the top 5%) would mean: $3,008,361,600,000-$3,844,017,600,000 in taxed income leaving them with around $752,090,400,000-$961,004,400,000. This would, on the top end, cover the $3.8 trillion (national priorities) currently needed of the federal spending with no new additions to government spending. Debate about the 23% being accurate is, however, argued by the Brookings institute who have the more recent study. However, the cost of new healthcare systems for the millions of uninsured Americans would certainly cause a major jump in the US spending. Additionally, the costs estimated for Sanders-endorsed would be upwards of 2.5 Trillion annually (Urban Institute). Good luck with your proposition, "Only the rich would." As for rising taxes...
The money they would have more than likely means they would reinvest much less than previously, adversely effecting the supply-side of the economy which would likely lead to new hurdles for the economy because higher salary jobs which are needed in the economy, "Indeed, economist Arthur Laffer (of “Laffer curve” fame) popularized the notion that higher tax rates may actually cause the tax base to shrink so much that tax revenues will decline, and that a cut in tax rates may increase the tax base so much that tax revenues increase" (econlib.org). Given that economists have noted this in relation to the 1980s tax cuts which opposed Keynesian economics, 'Economists continue to debate the precise effects of the 1980s tax cuts. After extensive analysis of the 1986 rate reductions, both Lawrence Lindsey and Martin Feldstein concluded that for taxpayers previously facing marginal tax rates of 40 percent or more, the drop in tax rates caused such a large increase in taxable income that the government was collecting even more revenue from taxpayers in these top brackets. This would mean that tax rates of 40 percent had had a highly destructive impact on economic activity'" (econlib.org) it is reasonable to assume that jumping this to 80 percent or more would, in the long run, be detrimental to the economy as it relates to inflation. In fact, the economy got better as taxes were reduced during the Kennedy and Reagan eras and suffered during the Hoover era.

I don't give two shits about your morals, you believe that the ends justify the means with abortion. Let me quarrel you this: If abortions stop someone from leading a life which would be, "Cruel," then how exactly is it that you don't support suicide for anyone who is having a tough time emotionally in life? OR - do you think suicide is the answer for anyone involved in a rough life? It's a completely erroneous point, and you effectively state that death is better than a hard life. First off -- no he hasn't, he called for it to be reexamined.
Our electoral college effectively as it functions currently, is protecting an *oligarchy*.
While many first world nation's provide more adequate care than America, their abilities to do so depend on many factors. Nothing is free, only better managed.
Meanwhile, the Nordic countries have had Universal Healthcare and Education for over 60 years.
They became some of the most business innovative, productive, free and least corrupt group of countries, *allowing the common person to feel and fully benefit from the progress made*
60 years ago they literally kicked the wealthiest out of government positions via long on going protest.
These people chose to put farmers, businessman, doctors, and labor workers among legislative bodies.
With more common workers on legislative boards, they worked to develop a nation that invested in human economics. One in which encourages people to reach their full economic potential.
This in turn translated into better ideas, more common understanding, less waste, and better legislation to produce a better economy and an even more harmonious social structure. Again problems still exist, just far, far less contentious involving less calamity.
Underlying philosophy - if our minds and bodies are an important economic resource, then as a country and as individuals, we benefit from the cultivation of all our potential. It is an overall economic loss to ignore the vast potential available in citizens who are treated like they matter.

If you look at the statistics people in countries with socialized medicine people live as long and in some cases a few years longer. In the US the rich live several years longer than the poor while in socialized medicine countries the poor live as long as the rich. In countries with socialized medicine people get problems treated before they become a big issue and there isn't as much suffering. Wait times in socialized medicine countries are about the same as wait times in America. A 30 year old relative of mine had a suspicious lump in her breast, she had to wait almost a month to see a doctor and 3 months to find out she did not have breast cancer, if that is not a long wait time I don't know what is. 500,000 Americans are brankrupted by medical bills every year, the number of Europeans bankrupted by medical bills is almost zero so obviously Europeans don't pay much out of pocket. The American healthcare tax is almost twice as much as the European healthcare tax. Most Americans don't realize there is a healthcare tax because their employer pays most of the tax. When American's complain about not getting a raise or their raise not keeping up with inflation, they need to realize that after their employer pays their exorbitant healthcare premium there might not be much money left over for raises. Medicare for all could be implemented without a tax increase if money employers are paying towards employee premiums was re-directed. Most politicians won't tell you all this because the health insurance companies have given them donations to stay quiet.

    • @tomasfordelsen2090
      @tomasfordelsen2090 4 года назад +2

@@TroIIingThemSoftly It seems to me that Bernie Sanders is promoting democratic socialism, but he has his own definition of it. It seems that he himself might be mixing up the definitions. We don´t have democratic socialism in Scandinavia, we have social democracy. Democratic socialism limits capitalism heavily and relies mostly on governmental interference. This is where it quickly can get dangerous if a president, who controls a lot of the nation´s wealth, demands total and personal control, and starts acting like a dictator. Or there´s a military coup, where a general claims all power of the resources.
Social democracy, on the other hand, is accepting capitalism but does not promote free market capitalism. In Scandinavia we have capitalism, but everything is regulated to a certain degree (it varies between the sectors), and most basic services - the ones that cater to the most human needs - are predominantly managed and supervised by the government. In other words, the government has monopoly on only a very limited number of services but keeps supervision on a lot.
The line between the two definitions is not very clear and I think the blurred line can hurt Sander´s campaign because his opponents and right wing media, as you mentioned, are gonna focus on the socialist part, and compare it to communism.

Private hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and private insurance companies, etc. all exist and thrive. American taxes go to funding wars and that's pretty much it. The US and Chile are the only developed/developing countries without universal healthcare. Americans pay the most, get lower quality, have to wait longer, and still 70 million people are uninsured/under-insured and have private insurance companies getting between them and their doctors. America doesn't have a single mile of high-speed rail, hasn't built a new airport in a quarter century, and then wealth and income inequality gap just grows and grows and grows. Bernie actually, in the 2016 primaries, condemned Maduro and Venezuela. Listen to him. He said in the video that he supports Scandinavia, not Cuba or Venezuela. I think the confusion is over semantics. Bernie is referring to social democracy, not democratic socialism, (an oxymoron). I was blinded for most of my life to seeing socialist countries as more fair than the U.S., because of their supposed intent to spread the wealth. But lately I've opened my eyes, and seen that these countries, like Russia and China, only enslave the masses, without rights, to make money for the top few. The only fair countries are the social democracies, like Canada and in Europe, which are democratic and free enterprise, with regulated competition, and more social programs. And little debt. The U.S. is at the opposite pole from socialist- free enterprise with little regulation, not enough good social programs, and large debt, with big tax breaks and loopholes.

"Democratic socialism" is social democracy, it has nothing to do with classic socialism, Soviet style, or Maduro Venezuela style. I do not agree that the "democratic socialism" should be used. It's a regression, in my opinion. And All European countries, in addition to other countries such as Canada and Japan, without exception are social democracies. In fact almost all countries with functioning democracy are social democracies, where capitalism is the main economic system, but the government regulates the market and provides a social safety net. I do not know what is so controversial about that. That is different than socialism, which is the state (the government) taking over the means of production away from private enterprise.

Socialism is a very broad term that includes everything from Marxism, all the way to social democracy, which is now prevalent in Europe (that's why it is so easy to misuse and take out of context). Communism is, in fact, a very far-left idea that was never implemented fully. The Soviet Union was only nominally communist since pure communism requires the dissolution of state, classes, money...
