    Great video. Little side note on the explanation of pushing film. If you decide to push your film you are deliberately underexposing the film. The underexposure is actually what is causing the grain. Grain is more present in underexposed and out of focus areas. Concerning the contrast. The first data that is "lost" is the darkest part in your scene. So by overdeveloping the film it will first bring out the details in the highlights, then some in the mids and little to nothing in the shadows. Hence creating more contrast.

      Agreed, pushing film is the kind of thing you would learn at photojournalism schools where the majority of the students and even many of the teachers have no idea how to expose and develop film.

    I used the Kodak TMAX400 120 film for many years, I shot it at 200 ASA/ISO and developed it in a thin solution for a long time with very few and very gently agitations, in that way the film had more grey tones and had still very good contrast, in modern words, larger dynamic range. I guess you can do the same with a Ilford Delta 400 film. Of paper I used Ilford Multigrade. Made great images from my 6x6 Hasselblad !

    Great video. With the clouds and poor lighting it might have been a better idea just to rate both at 200 and then develop normally and push. Most shots seem a stop or so underexposed but the look of the shots definitely reflects the mood of the day so cheers 🤙🏻. I just usually rate at stop over when there’s heavy overcast and it usually helps with a much cleaner image and crisper contrast. Loved seeing double blads out there in the city. Happy shooting

    You could definitely see the increased contrast in the pushed TMax, but not so much the Tri-X. The pushed TMax kinda looked like Tri-X in contrast but was less grainy. The pushed TMax seemed to have a drama about it that the unpushed version lacked. Of course this is all about preferences, Good info, Gents. Thanks.

      Agree. It was a very dreary, of and on rainy day so the overall tone of the day was middle grey. It would be interesting to do this on a sunny day to see what the contrast does then. Thanks for the comment.

    The focus ring. Buy a focus ring arm. Attachment. I have one on my 503. Huge help. Later on I had the lens serviced and re-lubed. I like synthetic grease vs helical grease. It holds up better in temp extremes. Great video.
    I have always used Tri-X instead of Tmax. I might have to try Tmax again.

    I really liked the images. Each film has its own look, and you can see the subtle differences between box speed and pushed. Just wondering which developer was used?

    • @FilmSupplyClub
      @FilmSupplyClub  4 года назад

      Eicles - great question. The film was developed and scanned at Richard Photo Lab in Los Angeles. Thanks for the comment and sorry we don’t have an exact answer for the developer.

    Cool video where did you get the Camera strap for the Hasselblad?

  • @dizzybuizzy9347
    @dizzybuizzy9347 4 года назад

    Just like to point out, because that's how I am... with a system like the Hasselblad that offers interchangeable Backs, I don't see why one would risk possible mishap with changing Films on the street!
    Even with SLR's that offer no spare backs, I normally at the very least sit down on a bench and change my rolls of film! Anyways, to each his own...

    • @FilmSupplyClub
      @FilmSupplyClub  4 года назад

      Braedon chiming in here. I'll shoot upwards of 70 rolls on a gig and am just used to changing rolls quickly and on the fly. It becomes a necessity when moving quickly and when shooting multiple rolls all day.

    • @dizzybuizzy9347
      @dizzybuizzy9347 4 года назад

      @@FilmSupplyClub What ever happened to spare Backs?

    • @FilmSupplyClub
      @FilmSupplyClub  4 года назад

      That would be a lot of spare backs. Your method is good. Better actually. I just don’t carry around a ton of backs and feel just fine changing film on the streets.

    T maxx is junk. Tri-x has great gradation in tones. T maxx just has grey. Shot with T-maxx back in the day in photography school, it is not very forgiving when developing as Tri-X is.

    • @FilmSupplyClub
      @FilmSupplyClub  3 года назад +1

      Agree to a degree. Tmax looks pretty good pushed but at box speed, it’s too grey and not enough contrast.
