    Thanks for the video as it helped me go ahead and change out the sensor. The weird thing is it took almost 3 weeks for my engine light to turn off once it realized there was a new sensor installed. That or the check engine light burned out.
    The only thing I would correct is you mention it takes an 11mm deep socket, but it's actually a 19mm.

    Recently did this on a 2003 Avalon; all went well. The odd thing is that the old one had no metal gasket--thankfully, the replacement item did. As one commenter stated, it's most definitely a deep well 19mm socket that is used to remove and replace the sensor. Upon starting the vehicle after installation, the check engine light was no longer on, but just for peace of mind, I used my code scanner to confirm that the repair was complete. Thanks for a good, basic video.

      What code was on ? P0115?

    • @ClassicTV4U
      @ClassicTV4U Месяц назад

      @@13106Hardty The code that my scanner detected was P0128; some sites suggest that thermostat replacement is the fix for this code, but I replaced the coolant temperature sensor and that apparently corrected the situation. Hopefully, your issue (P0115) can also be resolved by replacing the sensor--keep us posted.

    Cool, thanks for the guidance. I had to do this to my Solara and wondered how easy it would be for my 2002 Avalon, well not as easy due to loaction but easy in steps. Gotta keep my Avy cruising on them Whitewalls (got a video of it on my ch.) and that sensor might need chg by now.

    Very good video. But I found the drain impossible to break loose (been together for 20 years) and found an easier method. Get a clean Wet-vac and put the hose into the coolant fill cap. Break the thermostatic sensor loose & turn on the vacuum. When the sensor is removed it will pull about a pint of coolant and not leak around the sensor. Put in the new sensor and pour the Wet-vac contents back into the fill cap. Use a big funnel and maybe a coffee filter if you have a less than really clean vacuum. Easy job.

    How do you know it was not the thermostat? Did you just go based off autozone print out?

    Thanks for the video! What size hose is needed to drain the coolant?

    I need to replace the coolant sensor in 2003 Avalon xls. But not sure of the sensor location, is it similar spot to the one in the video?

      Your 2003 is the same body design as the my 2000. I believe the sensor would be in the same location. The easiest way to find out would be to look under the hood since the sensor is visible without having to move other parts.

    About how long can you drive before repair this? In other words is it urgent to replace the temp sensor

      My O3 Avalon has 300,000 miles on it and I have seen this check engine code for the past 10,000 mi or so without any issues. I constantly check my engine temperature to make sure it's within range and I top off my coolant when necessary.

    What were the symptoms of a damaged sensor? Thanks

    • @MinuteMoments
      @MinuteMoments  2 года назад +1

      Personally, I didn't have any symptoms besides the check engine light and the related code. Potentially, there could be overheating problems.

    Aren't you supposed to wrap teflon on the tread before installation?

    • @MinuteMoments
      @MinuteMoments  3 года назад +1

      I don't think so. There wasn't any tape on the old one I replaced.
