1. We just bought a farm in Spain

- After 18months of searching we have finally bought a farmhouse and land in Spain, in the Almeria Province of Andalucia, in a small hamlet near the mountain village of Oria. We will be renovating a 200 year old farm house and the land in the driest region of Europe.
Moving in August 2020 as the first lockdowns of the pandemic lifted - in a van with all our animals and belongings it took 6 days and 3 ferries to travel from the Greek island of Rhodes to Andalucia.
In Christmas 2019 we decided to move from Greece to Spain. The cost of living and travelling in Greece had risen too high, we wanted to put down roots, and buy our own place.
Then the pandemic hit and we thought the move wouldn’t happen. Amanda was locked down on the Greek island of Rhodes and Dave was stuck in the far north of Scotland at work. But the borders opened and we took a risk. Giving away most of our belongings and packing what we could into a van we went for it.
With lockdowns restricting our ability to search it has taken longer but was worth the wait.

Spain is absolutely amazing.. the ignorance of many people who only relate it to Benidorm. I live in Ibiza now but was living in the Guadalest area. Breathtaking views

@@SettleinSpain We are looking for a habitable townhouse, village house, or old apartment. If you see anything let me know. The plan is to buy toward the end of 2023 and then do the 90/180 days dance when we retire in 2026. We live in the USA but I am welsh, hubby is American LOL.
@@lynetterodgers2000 there are so many places for sale, especially away from the coast… my advice would be to rent first in different areas and find the place and community that is right for you.

Thank you. We have residence as we arrived before the Brexit deadline. There are still ways people to come it’s just more difficult and/or expensive now.
Hi Amanda and Dave - fascinating to follow your adventure and very timely as we want to retire to Spain but how do we do it now Brexit has scuppered our plans? We have a bit of money but by no means an unending pot of it. We could afford to buy a small place and keep going , in a simple kind of way - I understand you need health insurance and health plans but I am confused about the yearly income you have to have . Are you both already residents of Spain ? I’m guessing you pre-empted Brexit and therefore are able to live there with the correct visa / permissions etc. any advice would be welcome 🥰
Hi Elizabeth, you’re right we did get here in time to pre-empt Brexit, luckily as we would not have the finances otherwise. The best advice I can give you is to contact the Spanish embassy. There are many different types of visas available with different rules. I know you have to apply before you move across, but also consult a good accountant to make sure any money you do bring over for property isn’t taxed again when you come over. Sorry try I can’t be more specific. Healthcare is needed for the first year or maybe two after that I believe you can pay into the local system or use your S21. I hope that helps.

Thank you, there are many different types of visa contact your nearest Spanish embassy for more info. Lots of people do earn a living from farming in Spain.

Hi and congrats on the move. Me and family are looking to do something similar in Spain, buy a house with land to grow food and raise animals. I was looking at provincias Zamora, Leon and Asturias, what do you guys know of these and would they be any good for that lifestyle? Regards.
