Impossible Piano Physics Simulation - In the Hall of the Mountain King | Black MIDI
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 апр 2022
- I built a simulation in Unity to visualize black MIDI files with physics! Every note note is a rigidbody which magnetically locks into position, presses a key, and spawns a glowing orb. This project pushed my abilities (and my PC) to the limit. The first portion was recorded with raytracing, so be sure to view in 4k resolution.
Fun facts:
- Thirty two gigs of RAM was not enough to hold the required game objects in the scene, so I upgraded to 64 just to make this video.
- Each frame was taking so long to load it was causing my GPU drivers to time out and crash. I had to edit a registry value called TdrDelay to resolve this.
- The final image sequence recording was over 100GB. Good luck youtube compression haha.
- My computer was rendering nonstop for over a week to capture the ray traced portion before the crash.

I believe this MIDI file was created by a user named @Sir Spork. Unfortunately, it seems they have deleted their RUclips channel, and I can't find a link to properly credit them. If anyone has a link to Sir Spork's social media, please send it my way so I can give the credit they deserve for this amazing MIDI arrangement.
EDIT: I think this is the new channel: / @tobach_
Huge shoutout to my friend Colin for building the Patron plinko at the end of the video. Here is a link to his channel: / @colinfritz - Развлечения
I like how it gradually becomes more and more chaotic! And the crash in the middle made me think my computer had crashed lol
Hey MIKAN! It seems we have similar interests. Love your creativity. It would be fun to discuss/compare our unity development processes. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested!
if you guys decides to collab. It would be great btw I am a fan of both of your works.
Please collab
Mikan and DoodleChaos collab when? That would actually be lit.
Please Collab, you guys are both so cool!
I love how at some point you just have to trust that in the middle of that chaos there is a piano playing and it's not just random particles jumping at your screen
XD i know it was like "there is no paino playing but there is a waterfall of materials and its just trust me there is a paino in there oh"

I love how the notes counter slowly starts to get faster and faster, seeing it visualised as numbers really puts into perspective how insane this would be to play
If you want numbers, you can listen to rush e but pi, it's called the pi song
As someone who has played this... yeah this is what it feels like
Your Computer: "They told me there's nothing worse than Rush E..."
rush e is pathetic in terms of black midi, definitely not the hardest song ever
@@clementpoon120, I know, but that's what everybody says, lol.

Until today, I believed it, too.

Imagine showing this to the original composers and just saying, 'This is music nowadays'
Noooooooooooooooo!

This is “I bought the whole piano and I’m going to use the whole piano” to a whole new level, just wow
This one is really easy to see the keys with, im gonna use this one to learn the song! Loved the ending at 4:40 i finally understand how to play the song!

I LOVE the original version of this piece, so seeing it here in a maximized chaotic fashion was exactly what I didn't know I needed. A+ please do more classical music chaos
That ending gave me some mild vertigo lmao, loved it. Very impressive, I'm praying for the life of your computer.
It gave me vertigo too!
I feel intense sympathy for your poor computer
2:32 this put a giant smile to my face. I keep forgetting that you deliver more than we expect.

121 like but with 1 reply? I gotchu man

He's finding ways to go even crazy with his physics each day
I love how at the end it just gets to being this avalanche of orbs cascading down the screen. Crypto mining never burned GPUs as much as I'm sure this did. If before the crash took a week, this whole video would have easily taken a month +.
You absolute madlad.
Dang, you really lived up to the “chaos” part of your name with this one!
I'm just impressed you were able to count each note, I lost track around 20
That's the cool thing about computers, dude. You tell them what to do and they do it.

the ending just looks like what will happen if you got swarmed by xp orbs in minecraft xD
The most impressive part of DoodleChaos is the patience they have to wait for these masterpieces to render
Honestly I want to surf and swim amidst the tiny glowing bouncy balls. The finale will be a serious ride.
I salute to your dedication on upgrading your PC! And your patience for that week-long rendering.
4:10
The amount of particles being kicked up is just to show how big is the supernova about to strike
The part where it began to die down before witnessing the wave instantly form behind the keys and ready for impact was awesome! 2:20 - 2:36
I love the way the longer notes look like logs falling over a waterfall
4:20 is when my phone goes to the temperature of 5500°C
4:50 Your PC has been in 3:00 AM...
Amazing! This was emotions escalator for me!
At first I thought everything will be ended at 2:30 so I got a little relaxed looking at 50k notes thinking "well, that was solid". But then, I got exciting after seeing next.
Then at 3:00 when I saw too much of a movement and that huge cloud of notes I was like *"NO-O-O-O!!!"* as if it was going to break through the screen XD
And then the end... when I literally couldn't see piano but only balls flying at my face🤣
*LEGENDARY!*
4:40 is many balls
That really is an epic song. And an epic animation to go with it? Really cool! The played notes flying at the screen just adds to the realism so much.
This is my favorite black midi out there. Amazing visualization as always Doodle, you're an inspiration!

Well, you certainly got a lot of milage out of the "Chaos" part of your name on this one! I loved every second!
If Edvard Grieg could see this i don't know what he would think XD
I think his head would explode
I love how the song keeps escalating and becoming more and more difficult.
This combines so many extremes that I'm at a loss of words for it...
I'm just impressed as hell.

The moments at 2:30 and 4:15 are so satisfying
This is crazy you must have a beast of a pc in order for it to run so many particles at ok nice color me impressed also how do you come up with your music choices and visual display choices I'd love to see a video on that
In the description, it says that it took over a week for the RT part, I would be pretty damn pissed if it hadn't proper colors...
This could also be used as a screen test for new monitors. Really well done.
This is something else, man. Insane, yet hilarious. Love it.
I love how you started by simply playing with marbles and now you're only objective is to make your computer catch fire
these videos will never cease to amaze me
I'm not joking here, I was watching this full screen and towards the end of the video I actually *lost* my mouse cursor for a *good few seconds!!* Literally could not find it! This was EPIC! 🔥
One of my favorite classics, and this was incredible!
I just found your channel and I love ur minecraft and trackmania videos! keep it up :)
3:11 Very reminiscent of that final Sentinel surge in Matrix 3.
3:37 Idk what it is about this part of the song that is so nice for me? But I really enjoy it. Also great work! even at 4k could barely tell what was going on toward the end there. I feel bad for whatever rtx you got running there
The video was great and all but I always love how the Patrons are contestants and your channel is the game.
I've been watching for two months and it's still a banger
Ah yes, the perfect classical song to say, "Things are escalating quickly!"
computers quake in fear when this person approaches them
Astounding! 😊
Thanks for all the work you put in just to entertain me - and a few others ❗❗
Hey DoodleChaos I love the vids you put to much work on the work on EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!! I love that work keep it up, and when the crash sound came I thought it crashed and then I hit my computer almost hard enough to brake it
1:54 when the piano starts to piss you know something is wrong
4:17 here temperature of my phone started to rise when I watched this in 2K
You never cease to amaze, dude. I love all of your content!
This slowly devolved from a song defined by the notes being played to a cacophony defined by which notes were not being played
Damn, upgrading ram just for this video.. that's crazy. Do you plan on doing other crazy ram intensive projects now that you have double the ram? Also, what do you do when your computer is occupied for a week straight? Do you have a laptop that you repurpose for that time?
I try to be productive from my laptop while the main PC is rendering. I want to do more large scale simulations in the future! AI generative videos are on my radar
@@DoodleChaos 👀👀👀
4:35 my screen!!!
The fact that you can see each and every wave of notes crest over a sea on chaotic orbs is amazing
I love how it sounds like someone is playing this as angry as possible, just smashing the keys. Some pianist had a bad day and is rage--playing this as forcefully as possible.
You should upgrade to a more modern engine, Unreal, or maybe even in Blender with the required plugins.
5 yo me: *now thats what i call a full ball pit* 4:50
It's such a shame, because I've had this video sitting in my watch later playlist for a really long time, since it seemed like it was going to be boring in my personal opinion - I even almost clicked away like 35 seconds in because I thought it was basically just going to be like the various sheet music visualizations except with 3D and balls after the key is pressed. But the dramatic build, the utter chaos, and the genuinely beautiful physics interactions really made this a spectacular video, not to mention the personal stylistic flair you added throughout the video. It was a great experience and my I hope more people give it a watch!
Reminds me of when I was addicted to watching synthesia videos years a go, especially when there was tons of 'instruments' and colors associated for each of them. Eventually I only really liked the pure piano ones though, which had green for right hand and blue for left hand. I still like them
In the aftermath we see a computer's charred remains, the smell of smoke, and an image on the screen that can only be described as "a clown vomited on a piano".
Rush E is the exact opposite, instead its “a piano vomiting E’s on the floor”
4:45 avalanche!!!
DoodleChaos: alright so how will I almost break my computer this time?
in all seriousness, this is wonderfully chaotic, your content is always extremely fun to watch!
Always good to see black midi getting the love it deserves. HoTMK is also one of the best.
3:19 yes.
2:20 Hmm this is pretty intense, must be near the end of the song. *Checks time* Only halfway?

I love how at 4:15 the sudden movement of so many balls foreshadows what's to come... like, oh damn.
That was absolutely chaotic.. i loved it.
POV: you didn't watched entire video
I randomly commented
Youre right
Because it just uploaded
But I'm guessing this is for all those early commenters going "it was so good. Sodnqpxlwmfmvncjxo keep it up. It's finally here"
Yes
Okay. Let's seriously break this down...
Let's look at the video where just about every key is getting played within a few seconds.
How many pianists would it take to actually play that. Simple math is telling me your standard piano player has 10 fingers and there's 88 keys on a standard keyboard. Thereby you would need 9 pianists to recreate what was happening at the craziest moment on that keyboard and there's a good chance any one of their parts would sound horrible without the other eight parts.
One pianist may have only 10 fingers, but they have 2 arms which can press more than 10 keys at the same time..
The sheer amount computing power required for this just goes to show how far we have come in technology, mind boggling to thing what would have had to be done to attempt this 20 years ago.
I think this is the best video I have ever seen. Out of anything - ever.
I will try with my keyboard, thanks a lot for the tutorial, love this song
Why do I find watching these types of videos satisfying?
Your computer must have the power of the cosmos to be able to render all this. I love it
2:30 This is when the computer starts to scream
3:10 the computer screams louder this time
4:15 the computer is about to explode
this is more than amazing this is legend
This is so freaking cool. My mind, ears, and eyes are happy 😂
This is so cool man i love Edvard Greig !
It's nice that you do events/challenges for the patrons
I love how at one point it just becomes a tilde wave of orbs and your just making an assumption that the song is being played because you can hear it but you just can't see it!
that description of doom, thanks for all that :O
This has to make you appreciate people that can this song on the piano. Insanity, my brain processor could keep up.
This video perfectly highlights why it's a good idea to watch videos at 4K even on a 1080 screen. Compression can't keep up! LOL
