Best friend said you have to hear this. We listened to this album in his basement memorizing every note. Next day I busted the piggy and headed out to little records in Oak Park. Normally bought 45's but this time the full package was carried home. With headphones on and tubes glowing it delivered. EJ and the band put together their finest work.
I am 57,I grew up with a Elton in my youth, the 70's were such an amazing time!! I was blessed to have been in that generation. The Who, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, bad co ,yes, Frampton.... Jesus it was awesome
I am 62 now. An d I must agree with you. I have all the albums of Elton John, Zeppelin, Yes, Cat Stevens, Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, Genesis, etc. That was a great generation. It was really awesome. When I was 14 years of age (1973..) , I remember, I spent endless hours while studying and listening Genesis, Cat Stevens, and Elton and all the others . Great times.
"For there's weak winged ... wall flowers are thinning" a series of lines that have played over and over in my head for years. A testament to Taupin's sensitivities, and perception.
I bought this album when it first came out in the 1970s. Top notch song-writing and playing. All the musicians in this band were amazing. On this track I particularly like the guitar and bass.
My favorite EJ album; and I love them all. I was 16 when it came out and I remember some music critic saying it was an Elton John and Bernie Taupin version of Sgt Pepper. Maybe… I just know that I listened to the LP on our huge stereo console until the needle wore about out. Perfection… with liner notes and photos.❤️❤️
I was already a big fan and my aunt and uncle bought this album for me on my birthday when I was 13 in 1975.Still have it.One of the best.back when album covers were art!
@@dannyhay6191 We're about the same age. Amazed how certain albums transport you back to those muggy summer nights in your mind after all this time has passed.
This album has such staying power.I remember the Christmas that I got this album. I loved every song, but this is the one I loved most of all. It made me want to learn to play the mandolin.
David 'Dee' Murray was a fine musician...just check his work on the live album "11-17-70". And 'yes', Nigel was SO integral to Elton's sound. Great band! Shout out to Davey Johnstone to round out the crew. Cheers!
Love elton John first time i heard yellow brick road 1973 i was at fort knox in the army ever since i have bought his albums now on cd of course , im. 67 now and i still love and enjoy his music and i will til the day the good lord calls me home a fan forever ! Lots of love ! Saw the movie loved it !💝😍💖💞
Once in your head, you´ll get never rid of this song. An absolutely brilliant and timeless work - that´s classic! Love this one since I was a teenager...=:o)
I've been listening to this song since I was 4 or 5 years old, it makes me think of the sides of ourselves that we want people to see. Sir Elton John, your song Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me was the song I tried to sing to my crush, and he's been my friend and family for a good almost 5 years. I love the inspiration you give people to be human, and be themselves. I know I wasn't born in the decade any of your hit songs came out, but I do appreciate your music. Thank you...
When I was 18 I took care of 20,000 apple trees we had grafted earlier that year. I would be by myself, in that nursery, in the middle of nowhere singing this like I was on stage lol
this was my second album...love this and Chicago... those were the days... sure miss them... life was so simply back then...45 years later I am still listening!! love it!!
How i have lived to your poetry & music & how i do love u both, is beyond words i possess. ..i hope u hear me cheering 4u too Bernie Taupin!! Between yourself & Sir Elton u have written the soundtrack to my life. (Im a bit more the brown dirt cowboy...but I'm OK with that now, in fact proud)
Remember listening and spending hours studying every inch of art work on the record jacket ✨ Still like to study it, a part of the musicians of today's listeners never get to share, as this artwork was a part of the artist soul.
Ya know, John Lennon/Paul McCartney are credited as maybe the greatest singer/songwriters ever, but I would say Elton John/Bernie Taupin are THE best singer/songwriter team in history! I can’t even count all the huge songs they wrote together, not only numbers, but years doing so! Bernie would write the lyrics, Elton would put them to music. This is my favorite, but also goodbye yellow brick road, another cool album cover, and caribou and rock of the Westies! They literally wrote the soundtrack of my 70s teen years.
I love Elton and Bernie but Paul and John trump them over all for me personally . I say that only because I think the melodies that Paul and John made were so hauntingly beautiful. I love this album and still listen to it on a turntable!
My FAVE Elton LP. I remember I got it a week before it's official release and it blew my 13 year old mind. I still know every word from start to finish.
Saw them for 3rd time in Brisbane the other night (I think the first time would have been early 80's) and am really disappointed they didn't sing this song - I rate it as one of their best. In saying that though - it was such an experience - they are amazing. What a band - I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to see them live 3 times. Thanks Guys
Let’s be honest here. Bernie is the genius here. He tought me english from an early age. I didn’t have to buy the records. I had a big brother named John who baptised his girl Nikita.
Maybe my all time favorite Elton/Bernie song. It's honestly next to impossible to pick just one though. I still remember seeing the album cover when it was first released and it just amazed me....
Everyone, please, take at least one young person who thinks Justin beiber and Katey whatshername actually have talent and let them listen to this brilliant album
It's a lot of fun. I was a little skeptical as I don't usually like the tired formula of biopics, but there's some really creative decisions made with this one. Elton's music is used more like in a stage musical, with song-and-dance musical numbers to punctuate emotional/narrative beats in his life. As a result, a lot of songs don't appear at timeline accurate points (for eg - he plays "Crocodile Rock" during his first concert at the Troubador in 1970, despite the fact it wasn't written until 1973) but more when they best convey the right emotion or narrative framing. It works really well! The story is also very much told from an older Elton's "recollection of events", so they play up the "unreliable narrator" angle with a few dreamlike/fantastical scenes (ie Elton's attempted suicide in 1975, which IMO is one of the best scenes in the film). While they might annoy some looking for a more straight up biopic, I thought they worked fantastically. An over the top story for an over the top character!
Go see its not your typical biopic, its a brilliant telling of Eltons life in music and his experience of childhood to stardom and all the exess that goes with it!
Damn ❤ I'm back for my YEARLY music blast, can't QUITE reach the very top but WHO CARES !! Bought this Vinyl Album in 1975 in Grimsby 😂 Absolutely AWESOME !! I will now make my way to your SEEN THAT MOVIE TOO :) HAPPY 2024
