    Just found your channel, and I know that I'm too late (like a year), but I'll keep watching to see if you do another one! found your video due to the printer, just got the Pro-200 to replace my Pro9000 Mk II. thanks!

    I love this print,❤I told you that on the original video. I’m moving into my photography man cave this Christmas and it will hang over my newly installed editing room as inspiration for what can be achieved with a little hard work and knowledge. I’d even build a custom frame for it since I just did a dozen frames and matted them up with some of my pics for Christmas presents for the family. Thanks for the opportunity.

    A simply awesome picture it would really look stunning on my chimney breast wall.
    You are right we take all these beautiful photographs and so many just get swallowed up by the hard drive/ computer and never take a physical form to be enjoyed on a daily basis.
    Would love a print of the loon , could you share the link to your site please.
    Keep up the good work , and thanks for all your help it getting my head around my new R7 👍.

      I don't have the loon on the website at the moment. Send me a message at sdwest11@gmail.com and let me know what size and media type ( fine art paper, metal, or acrylic) and we can get it all worked out.

    I'm with you we had enough CC point to get a PRO 1000 and love printing with it!!!! Just bought more ink boy thats not a fun part!! It sure make a more emotional connection to your work.

      @@WILDALASKA I think with everything it was around 700.00. You just need to print pretty regular so you get the most out of the ink and not have it go in the waste container for maintenance. But still worth it IMO!!!!

    That printer looks like it'll be an awesome investment! I definitely agree that seeing your work in physical form is so much more gratifying - I just got into photography this year and as much as I enjoy seeing my "final" edits on the monitor and sharing them on my IG, I know I will be even that much happier to see physical copies that I can hang on my wall some day. I've done several acrylic paintings for the last several years before getting into photography and that feeling of completing the finishing touches on a piece and putting it up in the house for all to see is unmatched! I'm confident prints of my photos will be no different 🙌
    That bear photo is stunning - takes me back to a road trip I did this summer to Yukon and Alaska with friends where we saw a number of bears. Looks like he's in his element, on the prowl for some grub during the salmon run. I'd love to hang a photo like that in my living room!

    Scott, I have the Pixma 100, same size, and yes, it is the best way I know to really possess your pictures. I have a few hanging around my small house and photo office. No more room, so please don't send me a bear; but thank you. An important note for folks is to make sure you they hang them where there is light somehow. Same as what you saw when you took it.

    The physical incarnation of the emotion and effort that goes into the image is what is magical, therefore looking at the physical print hanging around is so important. Great investment! The Bear picture is amazing, given to have seen that vlog, every time you look at it you can remember where and how that was taken. A piece of Alaska hanging on my call will be beautiful... one part of US i havent been to and heard so much about. Where will i hang it?.. well too many options, but mostly in the study, where i work., so i can look up and dream away.. as if i was there with you when those bears were playing in the water.

    Social media is where photos go to die. We put them on there and get some likes and then they are forgotten. Like you said, even I forget them sometimes. I've been printing on my Canon Pro 10 and putting them up in my photo editing office and really enjoy just being surrounded by the wildlife that I've encountered out there. I really like the brown bear print that you showed in the video. I took a float trip down American Creek in Katmai a few years ago. What an adventure! I saw a couple hundred bears on the float. We'd wake up and there would be tracks where a bear had walked right through our camp during the night and we had no idea it had been there. The creek is small in August and we would be in situations where we had no choice but to float within 20 feet of a fishing bear at times. The first few days we were extremely vigilant, after that we eased up a bit and just enjoyed being on the river with them. It's hard to explain Katmai to people who have never been there. Thanks for the videos, I watch them all and have been living vicariously through you until I can get back to Alaska.

    There is nothing like seeing your work on a print. I have been printing my work for years with the Canon Pro-1000, 17x22 prints on a wall look great. For my best photos I use the Epson Exhibition Fine Art Paper "I use the Canon Pro Luster ICC settings since Epson does not provide them for third party printers, needless to say, the results are fantastic, that is of course to make sure your motor is calibrated and brightness set accordingly ,and making sure to soft proof before printing", which has gotten a bit expensive the last two years, so I staked up on it before the price increases "not that it was cheap in the first place" and scarce availability. I also use Epson and Canon Pro Luster papers which also produce great results. I recently purchased some Red River Ultra Pro Satin 4.0 which is a fantastic paper for the price. But if you want to print your best work on a high quality paper my recommendation is the Epson Exhibition Fine Art paper. I also print borderless, no white borders to distract from the image and more real estate for the subject that is being displayed.
    In regards to the inks for the Pro-1000, they are $60 for individual ink cartridge and $700 for all 12. The ink maintenance cartridge used to be $15 , now it's closer to $20 if you can find them, so when I do find them I get a couple. To mitigate ink waste which goes into the maintenance cartridge it is advisable to print at least once or twice a week, small prints are fine, as long as the ink feeding lines are constantly primed with ink, it will save you on the ink and any print head issues that might arise from the printer just sitting there.

    Putting images on line one can never be sure how it will be changed by the electronic device on which it is viewed. When you make your own prints you have complete control of the finished image. No uncalibrated viewing device can alter your vision. Doing your own prints in RGB allows you a larger color gamut than sRGB color space most commercial labs use. Enjoy you printer and knowing you vision will remain unchanged.

    Scott, I really enjoy your videos and find them very helpful and practical. I live on Vancouver Island and have recently got into bear photography with my R5 and R7 (using your setup,works great!) I would love the Bear photo, it would go up in the living room as inspiration as what to strive for. I would love to print my own photos, but is running the Canon printer relatively easy to figure out? Thanks again Scott for putting out such great content.

      @WILDALASKA  Год назад +1

      Glad the videos are helpful. :)
      The printer was easy to setup and use. The part that takes more work is the layout of your print in the software especially when using the odd A3+ paper size of 13x19 with a 2x3 image which is default dimensions of our cameras. But I am loving being able to print at home.

    would love the print - hang it in our main hallway. But, I'm in Australia and postage would be prohibitive.
    I'm surprised that you didn't go with an A2 printer Scott. I've always wanted a good A2 printer, but $$$$ and no place to put it kill the idea (same as a studio setup lol).
    edit: would like a video on why you chose Canon instead of Epson and how you set the printer profile up etc.

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Год назад +1

      The stores here carried the Canon. I try to buy local if I can.
      Shipping shouldn't be bad on a paper print ;)
      And the 1000 model was twice as much as the 200. I may get the 1000 later, just wanted to test out how much I liked printing at home first.

    • @davepastern
      @davepastern Год назад +1

      @@WILDALASKA yeah I too try to buy local. I have many things to consider before I get a printer (a few more lenses, a 5D II, etc).
      That is, if I stay with Canon (and if not, the above will change). I may just sell all my Canon gear and saving more money and go for a Sony A1 with 200-600. Very unhappy with Canon's blocking 3rd party lenses to be honest.
      I've always preferred Epson - had some super support from Epson back in the mid 00s that went above and beyond to help out. Easily and massively outclasses any support that I've ever had from Canon, who have been pretty damn horrendous over the years to be honest. Perhaps Canon USA is better than Canon Australia, I don't know.
      On a different note, are you considering the R6 II? Also, Duade's just dropped an excellent video no rolling shutter, what are your thoughts? It pretty much kills any idea of going with the R7 and even the R6, especially with the R6 II release. I was really hoping for a least a BSI sensor on the R6 II so what we got is pretty disappointing as far a I'm concerned.

    You do the same as me looks fine on the screen when you print it you see bits that you just need to touch up a bit more. That bear give away is great. The more you look at it you get the feeling you can connect with it. It is as if there is feeling in the print. Have to be hung where everyone can see it, living room or the most visted room.

    Hi, it's been a year now and I'm wondering if you still love it and if you've had any problems with it?
    When I looked it up on Consumer Reports it rates it terribly, a 29, with so many of their less expensive models above it.
    I don't care if it's slower at all if my finished project is great.
    Would really value your opinion on this so much! Thank you!
