I have Volkswagen passat b6 2010 and showing the yellow light with the sensor next to it but when i checked the oil level is fine maybe the hr sensor need replacing.
I took it to a garage and had my mate turn it off for it to come right back on in a second even less then he said it’s the sensor and it’s where the oil sump plug is they get knocked very easily but my car has 195k on it so probably definitely a faulty sensor
Brilliant! Problem solved and you just saved me a significant repair bill.
Thanks for that video I was freaking out when I got the yellow light
Remember, dash lights are coloured in accordance with the traffic light principle
Thanks, this worked for us. Tried to find something via VCDS but it was only OIL level low. Tried Google and found this. Unfortunately, this Golf IV had a collision earlier and the new bonnet lock was without the micro switch. At last I managed to locate the free cable intended for the bonnet lock, and shorted the wires, while switching the ignition on. VIOLA! Yellow lamp disappeared.
Thank you 1000 times from Norway!!!
You're very welcome Roy.
Thank you for your excellent video!! Couldn't figure out how to get rid of yellow warning light (low oil level) in our 2005 Beetle Bug. Oil level was indeed low. Added the proper amount of oil, but light wouldn't go off. Tried restarting engine, but nothing did the trick. Manual was no help either. HOWEVER your video instructions did the trick!! You saved me a trip to the dealer. (Chattanooga, TN, USA)
Thanks, again.
Awesome, glad it worked. No doubt the dealer would have BS'd you about needing some reprograming or a new bonnet latch. Sharks, all of them.
Thank you so much for your video, moreover I just changed the oil and the light was same when I turned the switch on as you said, the light still on, so I remove the battery positive wire and fixed again the light comes off
Check the operation of the bonnet switch.

How does opening the bonnet for 30 seconds with ignition on,reset the light, does it work for a2009 golf?

I got a yellow flashing oil can with "Oil level sensor Workshop" text, flashing like 3 times when i put in the key. It goes away after those 3 blinks and dont turn on whenever I drive. I get it at random times, but only ever when I am about to start the car. Usually after the car has been holding still for many hours or its very cold. I have tried putting the key in for resetting with the bonnet open. But that did nothing, still getting it here and there. The oil level is great...
I would interpret that as a sensor problem
I have the same problem i change sensor but its not working and in pc not configure any problems

Thanks for making this video. It is the only video I have found that has been helpful to me. I've topped up the oil in my gti and I'm going to check the level again tomorrow and keep an eye on the dash in case the yellow warning level light comes on again.
Do you have any clue if you put the oil but light still on?
Mando, either you haven't reset it correctly or maybe the bonnet switch isn't working ruclips.net/video/JXSIfPa6otw/видео.html

Hy! Good video. But the oil yellow alarm reset only by closing the bonnet? Or is it also possible to reset this alarm through the computer connected to the control unit (with the bonnet open or closed)? Thanks
It's reset by opening the bonnet. Don't know if you can reset with VAGCOM, but would imagine you can.
Have you any idea how to turn off the check timing belt warning on a 2003 Toyoace, the dash has no digital display at all.

Thanks for the video you help me when i needed❤
hi do you have any videos for tiguan
Hi, thanks for explaining.
I've got a 2015 sharan 2.0 tdi. The check oil message (yellow/orange) comes on intermittently. Oil is good (towards max, so doesn't make sense to top-up). I had a oil and oil filter change 2 months ago. I drive and it doesn't show, but at the end of the day (also driving through some hills) it comes on. No fault code when scanning it.
Am freaking out! Any ideas?
Certainly a puzzler! Check the wiring to the sensor for damage along it's length and the connector for cleanliness and good contact.
@@CycloneCyd I forgot about this.... Somehow my mechanic had overfilled it (by 1.5 litres). I had not driven it for a real distance after the service... This is why it came on when I went abroad. Removed excess oil and problem has been sorted.
Hi I have a VW Transporter t5.1 2014, I have the flashing yellow oil sensor, I have just had an oil change and this is happening, I had the oil changed because the last sensor was flashing also, so now I am assuming there is a fault with the wiring, how is this checked and fixed, thanks
I think it's a fair assumption to think there may be a fault with either the sensor or the wiring. Changing the sensor itself probably involves a sump removal, so check the wiring first. I'll have to leave it with you to research where exactly the sensor is on your engine . You might find it by looking or feeling all round your sump.
Once you've found it, disconnect any connector and use a good contact cleaner or brake cleaner to clean up the connections. Follow the wiring and check visually and by feel for any damage or fraying. Once you know where the wiring goes back to (find a wiring diagram) check the wiring continuity with an ohmmeter.
If you find no faults with the wiring, you are left to conclude there is a fault with the sensor which will need changed.
The video really helped , can you make one about the dashboard gauges not resetting when the ignition is off (for example the fuel level gauge).

Hi there, I am owning a VW Golf Plus 2007, but can't determine where's the min/max of the oil lipstick.. it's very cofusing tbh... do you have any idea?
dipstickless , electronically controlled level sensor might help good bye motor, old good habits of checking oil weekly is good way to prevent motor failure
I'm in agreement with your analysis Piotr. All in aid of cutting costs, I'd say. 👎
Hi i have skoda fabia1.2 the motor same polo 1.2 and the proplem lamp oil when start car for 5secund orange and after 5 secund it off..hlep how can delet
Hi Tomycool, Orange not yellow? Sure it's not red? If it comes on and stays on for 5 seconds each time you start the car, this could be the normal bulb check process OR it could signal a pressure issue when cold. I suspect the former from your description, but in case it's the latter, I'd suggest an oil change with a thorough flush (using a proper flushing oil, not an additive) just in case it's a sludge issue on the oil pickup gauze.

I have only just replaced the engine at the end of last year so I was surprised the oil light came on, I was thinking this shouldn’t happen and when I checked it looked like the oil was lower than normal, what does this mean?
So are you saying that over a period of time, the oil level has dropped? Are you checking it regularly and consistently (flat ground, 10 mins after turn off)?
Assuming you are, VW say using 1 litre per 1000 miles is 'normal'. I would expect any engine to use much less than that. If you're using that much you've got a leak or you are burning it.
What's your usage rate?
Cyclone Cyd the thing is before it never came on at all so I believe there is a leak or burning oil somehow, I have my MOT today so hopefully something is discovered and it’s all done
excellent video thank you..
Hello! I don't know if you still check these comments, but my 2003 volkswagen polo (1.4 16V) has it backwards in the manual (in hungarian). It says red light is for oil level, yellow light is for oil pressure. I don't know what to think, but I have seen many (and I mean MANY) professionally translated things in my country which was so far from the true translation that I start to think this was mixed up too. What do you think? Can it be that in my country they just decided that red will mean level and yellow means pressure? Or was this another of the many translation bloopers?
I'd be willing to bet this is a problem in translation. I bet the original German manual was translated to English and then the English version translated to Hungarian❗ And the German Enginees, not knowing Hungarian, were unable to check it.
Defo the wrong way around though. The red light for oil pressure is a legal requirement.
@@CycloneCyd Thank you for the quick response.
I was driving for about 2 hours, then was at a border for 5-6 hours with my Golf 4 1.4 left on most of that time. Then when I was able to continue driving for approx. another 100km, the yellow oil light came on. I turned off the car and checked the oil, which was right inbetween the mark. Coolant level was good and no leaks anywhere. After the car was off for about 20 minutes I turned it on and there was no light. I continued driving for another 400km and everything was fine. Could this have just been a rare non serious issue since the car was driving so much in one day?
It does sound like it. Check the wiring and make sure connections are clean and secure. When embarking on long trips, it's worth making sure the oil is full to the max mark.
I would like to know why it flicker like 3 times and dispear just when start up.
How do you check oil level on 2020 Passat? There is no dipstick!
I've got a 2007 Polo 9N (new driver), I've noticed that as of late, my 1.6 petrol engine consumes oil. During a long trip, after about 300 km and a few hours of driving, the yellow light came on. I was at half the dipstick when I started my journey and about 3 mm less when it came on. I've put 300ml til it came back to half. It's due for an oil change, the oil has around 10km or a year, but is the amount of consumption normal? Since the trip, I've done some 300 km again and it came back on.
Sounds high to me. After the oil change make sure it is bang on the max mark on the dipstick and measure how much extra oil you have to put in over a 1000 miles.
@@CycloneCyd In the meanwhile I've looked through the car's manual and VW says 1l at 1000km is expected. This would mean that by the time I'd change oil again, I'd already put 10 liters in it, so it's more of a filter change than oil change. I wonder if putting thicker oil is a good idea, what do you think?
hi i have a 02 vw passat 1,9 tdi the yellow oil light comes on and saying check oil level the oil light will not go off i have changed oil plus i have also changed the oil level sensor this started because my oil was low so i topped it up and the light still remains

Check oil level.
hi, i have high pressure oil, and my torque converter spit out oil from my engine. Pressure when the car is stationari si 3.8 bar and when accelation is at 2000 rpm the pressure rise to almost 6 bar. (i have an audi a4 b7)
Are you measuring engine or gearbox oil pressure? That seems high for an engine. Also oil from the torque convertor should not be able to get into the engine, except possibly from a oil to water cooler built in to the rad. If this is what you have, get the rad fixed asap and the gearbox flushed.

Hello I have a quick I hope you could help with. I drive an 09 VW Jetta Wagon 2.0T and just recently I started to get the flashing oil light. What is odd is that it doesn’t show up right when I start the vehicle up, it takes about 15 mins of driving before it turns on, but if I set my cruise control and don’t brake or accelerate, that warning goes away. I am thinking that maybe the sensor is going bad, but I would love a second opinion! Thanks!
Flashing light is dodgy sensor. Check connections and wiring first before spending out on a sensor.

I have a VW transporter 2.5 TDI my yellow oil light comes on every 50 miles if I need oil or not this has been happening since I bought it a couple of years ago. It seems to run fine apart from using a bit of oil frequently.
A chaffed wire perhaps? Rubs on a metal part every now and then?? Or just a faulty sensor.
Hi, question .. I have an Audi A3 S line, I was driving and yesterday my yellow oil light came on underneath it says 'min'.. I know it means to add oil.. My question is how soon? How many miles can I safley drive with it, I was going to bring it to Audi but its about 16 miles away.. Is it safe to drive there. I dnt want to ruin my engine

If the light is orange, I would interpret that as same as yellow. WHY? Because RED light for oil PRESSURE is a legal requirement.
Hello.
So i got the yellow oil light on while driving, and i have lost some oil,but after adding it up to the needed level the light still stays on.I even went to the service and changed the oil completely i even changed the oil filter and the light stll stays on(at the service they even put more as needed so now is a bit above the level). The last thing i did is your steps with the bonnet and i was very passionate about it buts still the yellow light stays on.As i have read about it it has to be the microswitch or lastly the sensor(which i dont understand what is it and how to check if it's working).

PS: It's my first car and i have it for not more than 3weeks.

Hi Toni, thanks for watching and interacting.
The microswitch you refer to is fitted in the bonnet latch and is used to detect bonnet open, both for alarm and this resetting function. It's likely the switch has failed.
I've done you a quick video todat to show how to get the latch out and test the switch. Give me a few days to edit it and get it uploaded.
In the meantime, don't do anything hasty. These things are sent to try us. You're learning early on that cars need maintenance and that sometimes it can be frustrating, particularly when you're still at the bottom end of the learning curve. Keep the faith.
Low oil pressure indicatore means the oil pump isn't circulating enough oil, or there isn't enough oil in the system for the pump to circulate. The oil is important to keeping the surfaces lubricated, so if the oil light comes on and the pressure is low, pull over and turn off the engine..controll the oil pump is on oil sump

Yeah so I did an oil change and light stayed on. The mechanic said it could a sensor.
Yellow light didn't go out for me after top up tried it 4 times in the end it went out by its self 3 days later !
I had the same thing happen recently in my 2015 Passat. It went out when I was driving to work a day or two later after I changed the oil. The dealer said it might be the censor in the hood. I think the onboard computer system just needed to run and detect there was no fault before automatically turning it off.
