Cutting Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 Lock.
This is not a video about how to steal a bike! I was given this bike by a friend, the key got stuck in the lock and wouldn't open it or come out! So rather than release a brake cable to get it off, as it was broken anyway, i thought i'd see how secure those Kryptoloks are! Most of the time was spent fumbling to get a purchase on the lock, once it started moving it was through in seconds! Good luck, thanks for watching, please leave a comment!
Still, that took a HUGE bolt cutter anchored against the ground and leveraged with your weight.
Put this lock UP HIGH on your bike when locked and it's virtually impossible to cut.
Lock LOCATION is a huge factor, not just lock quality.
Agreed! And how easy it is to move the lock. I had to try a few times to get the jaws of the cutters in position. If the lock was high up and tight it would be really difficult to cut it. Even a crappy lock might stand a chance! Thanks for the comment!
good point
I had the same lock. same issue too with key stuck. took me an hour of trying. it was locked in such a way to stop theft of it so was very awkward! strong locks, lousy barrels
Almost too safe! Good locks, I have a few of the newer ones now, you just have to let go once the key gets loose.
MrHeepspo....You’re 100% correct. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
He should lock up the bolt cutters. They are worth more than the bike.
The sort of public places I lock my bike, someone struggling with a giant pair of bolt cutters like that is going to raise some eyebrows from passersby.
tell them you forgot your keys. lmao
Raised eyebrows do not stop bike thieves. I've seen people being recorded with angle grinders cutting bikes free with masks on their face
those shoes !!!!
Benuts lol
Should thieves have a particular shoe type??
I actually want a pair of these
If you're in the market for a bike lock, do your research. This Kryptonite is now famously known as the little Kryptonite lock that couldn't. Get a lock that can't be snipped. There are plenty of them from Kryptonite as well as Abus among others. But understand that they can still be destroyed using an angle grinder. There are no grinder-proof solutions. But if you get a good lock and learn to use it as a part of your bike retention solution, you're likely to have better success than the rest.
I understand that there is a big fat lock that has steel housed with aluminium so that the aluminium clogs angle grinders and is so deep that the blade of battery grinders can't get to the steel core within. Altor SAF is what it is called. Buying a lock suitable for the bike is key. I reckon, with the bikes that I ride, the lock is really just insurance against my journey home, I don't have a bike that I couldn't afford to lose.
The bike was "given" to him
Your average junkie has not got that much strength, would have finished him picking up the bolt cutters.
That's the funniest and truest thing I've read all day!
Them bolt cutters weren't opened all the way out, that's why it took so long to cut through. Max out the "bite" on the cutters and it shouldn't take so much effort!
*Those
What a surprise if you take the garbage line ... now try that with a New York
with aq better location of lock placement it seems pretty indestructible
These videos have been very helpful! Can you do sort of realistic testing first? Like how easy would it actually be if you locked it on a bike rack? I'm sure you wouldn't be able to leverage the cutters on the ground so easily if the lock was placed higher up. Maybe do the test using hands only then a worst case scenario test :) that way people who would only lock their bikes in public and high traffic would be confident that it would be hard enough to steal but don't have to shell out hundreds for a super high end lock
As one person commented recently I don’t have the strength of an opioid addict so no test that I do could be realistic. What I have found with RUclips is that if you think a video is missing you should make it yourself. Those videos get the most views.
Some serious bolt cutters!!
THey are not my biggest, there is a longer handle size!
You can see a drop of sweat falling on the ground at 1:44
What is easier to cut for you, U-locks or chains? Just trying to see which ones are better
It depends on the lock or chain.
@@bootsowenCould you cut the Kryptonite Evolution 10 mm chain with a bolt cutter?
@@Jose-sy1je I don’t have such a chain
He who wants your bike will have it. even the strongest locks cam be defeated with large eno7gh bolt cutters or a grinder. goal is to delay the attack enough so they target a lesser protected bike.
Indeed, 2 minutes is pretty long int the bike theft world. If you see how easy it is to open/cut a cable lock....
@Stevey TeeVee You get some very big cutters. I've got a 1.2m set. But it's not worth worrying about because most thieves don't have them they have grinders because they're more portable.
Thanks for your video, because of it I just dumped my 10mm d lock and bought bell550 13mm and onguard 8000 brute 17mm and cheap 1.8m China made chain from ebay for £47 total.
How much is your bike worth? and how much does a taxi home cost?
The gray series 2 locks are crap as your video shows. I use the Kryptonite Evolution mini 9. I have never seen bolt cutters cut the Evolution locks.
Why do you decide to use the Kryptolok that you linked on Amazon? Why not the Kryptonite Evolution U-lock?
I use it because it was cheap when I bought it and I still have my bike. I am sure you can buy better stronger locks. But they cost more money. If you have a better bike than mine maybe a better lock is the way to go. It also depends on where you lock it.
@@bootsowenI'm just trying to figure this out. The bolt cutters you used cost 620 British pounds??? If yes, then I think it's fair to assume that most thieves don't have such expensive bolt cutters and that cheaper ones won't cut as well. I saw a video of a guy easily breaking the Kryptonite Keeper 7mm chain and the bolt cutters weren't even resting on the ground. He cut it three times like nothing. So either I have to go for U locks or thicker chains. I really thought this managanese steel supposedly hardens and is not cuttable with bolt cutters.
@@Jose-sy1je thieves steal bot cutters or more likely battery angle grinders. Thieves don’t worry about price. You need to apply thief logic. It is different to our responsible citizen’s logic!!
also who in the world is going to walk around with bolt cutters at size and sit there and take all that time to cut them you're surely going to get caught unless it's in a dark alley at midnight pretty ridiculous.
Now I even feel better about locking up my bike with my kryptonite that it takes that much effort just steal it if you're willing to go through all of that you can have my bike
Another thing is if you notice he had the use the ground to get leverage if your bike is locked up in a rack and your lock is up high enough off the ground there's no way he could get that kind of Leverage he had to lay that bike on the ground so it's just completely pointless.
Think about how much faster he would be if he was experienced. A professional bike thief could cut thru in less than half the time. Pros also have angle grinders
i guess your answer here is that its safe, it took 2 minutes and a huge bolt cutter to snap that thing, thiefs ussually want to do things quick and doing all this in a public place will get them busted, so its ok to bug in my opinion
*thieves
now image if the lock would be higher up and the attacker could not place the bolt cutter on the ground. if placed right you only get through it with angle grinders, those machines will cut any lock in under 30 seconds. thiefs that have grinders will get your bike anyway, so a reasonably priced lock like the kryptolok series 2 is all you need plus bike insurance if you have a really expensive bike, say over 1000€.
You can get bolt cutters twice the size of these, they go up to 1.2 meters. That's the kind of size that could cut this lock in an awkward position.
you can use cut down scaffold tubes on the handles to extend them. My friend brazed cobalt strips on his jaws and they dont shatter the teeth
Hubert Walter *imagine *thieves
try it without using the ground as a fulcrum point, when the lock is on properly, it will be up the in the air, you'd have to use only your arms .
Have you tried?
@@bootsowenActually yeah, on a heavy duty pad lock that I lost the key for, had to use two 2x4's to help. If the lock is close to where you use your body weight with the fulcrum, hey you can break the lock, but up in mid air where it will be locked, without a proper fulcrum point, you won't do it just using arm strength.
@@moose7744 well, for an angle grinder.. done in 30 seconds. And bike's gone.
@@stfuplsok A good quality chain, heavy guage, would take approx. 10 min.
@@moose7744 *gauge or less.
What size cutters where they
He said that the key jammed, isn't that a nightmare?
Happened to me with a cable lock outside a store it was getting dark and I wasn’t leaving my nice bike for the theives I had no angle grinder or cutter so I got mad and pulled the lock using my leg n snapped it I was so happy after
Superman approves 👍
With no ground leverage he can’t cut it so lock your Dlock high and your good
WHAT ARE THOSE??!?!??!
Slippers
xD unique
lol
Bolt cutters
You should have tried some WD-40 or lubricating oil down the keyhole first.
We tried everything. It was very worn out. And there was no spare key.
nice shoes
I was almost sure it can’t be cut with the bolt cutters, but great! Now I have to by another lock to ensure that my Trek would’t be stolen. Or at least make it even more difficoult.
Aw man so sad to see i just had my trek stolen on monday. Lock was cut and gone within a few seconds.
Got a new bike and got the kryptonite keeper lock to help stop that one from happening again.
@@ovenheating9482 what type of lock did you have?
Jukkis *buy *wouldn't *difficult
Lock put up a good fight, pretty tough, but why not make it thicker, bolt cutters wouldn,t have as much of a chance . UPDATE. I just ordered this lock found it for only $28 had to get it when i found it that cheap.
thicker would be heavier for you to carry on your bike.
Unless you want to carry heavy things on your bike.
Holly molly just thinking to buy one now grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Did you get those bolt cutters from the WW2 museum? New bolt cutters have more power and some have double leverage mechanisms. You should buy one and try it out.
Why? What would that tell me? I could buy a hydraulic cutter too? Maybe another car?
maybe some big titty bitches@@bootsowen
What size were those croppers? Bicycle thieves would normally carry something like 30 inches and smaller, so they could conceal thier tools. These looked like 42 inches.
Certainly not 42", more like 30". I'd like to see someone walk around and conceal a 30" bolt croppers.
Attach your lock high so that thief cannot use ground leverage with cutters !
Also add another lock if you can - so maybe he can defeat both ?- but thief will need time !
No sane thief would bother robbing that bike !
No sane thief.... lol.
I reckon there is two types of bike thief out there. the one who will steal the best bike to make money. and the one who will steal any bike to get home.
If a thief wants to steal a bike, and has time, they can steal any bike with any lock.
I reckon you should lock your bike in a way that protects the ride home, so long as you can afford to lose the bike. What I mean is that if you always ride the same way as a commute but could take a train or bus home instead then you will still be able to make your journey so a good lock isn't so important. But I ride crap bikes and always have a spare bike.
Use an angle grinder son.
I haven't had any HUGE issues with this lock yet! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfyHDlEqk6hqu9acdvK5NGzZsGKSokSbv It seems sturdy and like it will get the job done. I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!
It was around the break cable right? That would have been a lot easier to undo........
Agreed, but I didn't have the key and wanted to test the lock.
I think some people must watch videos with the sound off
Maybe flip-flops weren't the best choice!?
Same result as another youtube video, they broke almost in the same place. other video was made with a hydraulic(manual) cutter.
try doing that with a kryptonite new york one
send me one and I will
Yup that lock is definitely not good enough for me if it can be cut.
u could done that quicker and gotten a easier cut if u adjusted the blades with the bolt on the side of blades.
adjusted them in what way, more open or more closed?
now try doing it again "Without" using the ground as leverage and just use your arms! Betcha can't do it! Probably not even Hulk Hogan or The Rock can do it! lol
Betcha Hulk Hogan can!
Harvey Maskell I meant on my bike but ok
That's exactly why it's recommended to not have your bike lock so close to the ground that thieves can do this. :)
Anymation sorry mate just some twat nicked mine that day😩
Ok , what is the point ? That you can snip a lock?
Yes. How easy it is. Helps to decide what type of lock to buy for your bicycle. Some people have very expensive bikes. Need good locks.
WHAT ARE THOSE!!!
those things are strong
Not so easy after all
U-Locks are a joke. Get a Pewäg chain and an Abus Granit, Abloy 350+, or Mul-T-Lock MT5+.
In reality it would be harder if that ulock is high above the ground so that the ground can't be used as a leverage, a thief would have a hard time cutting that steel with just arm strenght.
Yeah, there's no way my arms would do it above ground. But thieves are using angle grinders now so it is a different battle.
bolt cutter 1 vs kryptonite 0
that is why the correct term is bolt croppers not cutters...
its a irreal test, because no thief would act in such careless manner to be cought while robbing
Hi Pedro, It was never intended to be a real test, the bike wasn't actually locked! But there are loads of places where a thief can do this, anywhere dark or secluded, a back garden or behind an office where people aren't always passing. And remember that a trained thief can do this in 2 seconds! It was my first go!! The real take away from your point is that you should always lock your bike somewhere that other people can see it. If others are around then it is less likely to happen. Nevertheless, there are always thieves who don't care, who will push their luck. This is the lock that I use along with a cable, it has worked well for me.
Wd40 would have gave you a working kryptonite ulock
I wonder why we didn't think of that?
Yeah try doing that on a bike on a rack with the lock up higg
You would need a stronger pair of arms than I have!
The main anti theft function of the bike lock is that people will witness you working on the lock and call the police, anyone can get thru a lock in privacy.
Sounds like you haven't been to a city, or to the UK where the police would never come out to a bike theft in progress. I suspect that they would laugh you off the phone! ....hang on a second, let me just type this into my imaginary computer...click...click...click!
@@bootsowen or in New York.

Daaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyymmmm
Why didn’t you just disconnect the brake cable and pull it over the handlebars? Duh
cos that would have been a pretty boring video.
Instead of being very boring
You should watch it again!
Well, I just gave it another go and like the Hollywood blockbuster movie Inception it was amazing the second time round. Can’t believe I missed so much the first time.
Im sure some people watch videos with the sound off.
