- Hi everyone, oldmanwith a Silverline Angle Finder today and I’m using it to show another way to measure the angles for cutting skirting or base board
If you have any questions on this or any other of my videos please feel free to ask in the comments, I’ll try to help.
Here’s a link to buy one on Amazon:

This was the best explanation of the miter saw measurement I've seen on RUclips. thank you very much sir
Thanks!!
I bought this angle level after watching your video. Thank you very much for the great video! Greetings from Poland !
Greetings Tomasz and thanks for your comment 👍
Superb explanation! Thanks have subbed!
Really helpful thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Ron
Bros voice is like butter 😍 haha good video
Haha thanks for the compliment.
The whole angle thing comes from the fact that we measure angles from the length of the piece of timber and we call that 0 degrees (or 180) But the scale on the mitre saw is marked 90 degrees different (no idea why) So 0 degrees on the work is a straight line lengthwise. 0 degrees on the saw is a right angle cut across the work.
I have another go at explaining it here at 05:18 if you haven’t had enough yet 😂😂 ruclips.net/video/X4jcvtTZHsU/видео.html
Surely if you just cut it from the other side of the mitre saw its the correct angle? As in if you need 30' so set it to 60' your main cut is 60' and it's the off cut side that 30'.
Ok my brain has started working a bit again. Why not turn the mitre saw the opposite way. Would that not give you the angle
I am at present trying to put up skirting on an external angle of 88 degrees but my skirting is too tall to cut in an upright position, I only have a single bevel mitre saw, it only cuts to 45 degrees, how do I cut for bigger angles. Any help would be appreciated ?
That’s quite the challenge. Could you do something like the guy in this video but turn the idea through 90 degrees if you get what I mean ruclips.net/video/4B3uEehX-w0/видео.html
That’s some great glue.
I'm not easily impressed by stuff these days but learning how to transfer the angles instead of just assuming they are all 45 degrees, then cutting accurately and gluing them up with what's effectively superglue before install has made a huge difference in my work.
You can get it at all the places like Screwfix and Toolstation in the UK or here's a link to some on Amazon: amzn.to/3nxallX
The important thing is to get the activator with it so it goes off super quick
Wait I'm really confused now
Don't see how that tool would be any good if the skirting is shorter than the side that folds out, if it butted up to a doorway for instance.
True enough Gus, the only way I can see you could do it would be to turn it around the reverse way and use straight edges off the walls. The Bora Miterix shown in one of my other videos would do it because the legs "slide" in and out but the Starrett mitre gauge that I mention also wouldn't because the legs are fixed length. I've put a blog post explaining it here: www.oldmanwith.com/post/using-a-silverline-angle-finder-to-measure-an-angle-on-a-short-length-of-skirting-baseboard
The opposite part would be 180-what ever the remaining angle was. My brain hurts
