The R1 is Yamaha's 1000cc sport bike and it is significantly faster than the R6, their 600cc motorcycle. But just how much faster? I took out my 8 year old 2009 R1 and my new (and modified) 2017 R6 to race them against each other. Let's see how they did!

I️ was one the highway one day at like 2 am and two flew past me doing about 180 they were R1s I️ was going about 125 they scared the shit outta me but I️ live bikes so I️ wasn’t hating them that bad
I was goin down the highway in the middle of the day when 2 guys on what looked like busas came past me hauling ass scared the shit out a me cause I didn't hear them coming cause I had my music up loud until they go next to me like I probably could have stuck my hand out and high fived the guy when they passed me it was funny tho because about a mile before they passed me there was a state trooper sitting in the middle running radar so I'm assuming they were getting away from him but I never saw the cop😂 so I'm gonna guess and say he didn't even try😂😂😂 either way it was awesome I love how them things sound wide open

I think what was most surprising was that if the R6 got even a minor jump on the R1, it took a few seconds for the R1 to catch up. I thought it would make up that gap a lot quicker.

Roll racing though, not much skill involved. I have a 06 CBR600RR (slip on, PC, -1F, +2R) and I can beet my buddies 09 R1 from a dig. Well up to about 170-200km/h, Mind you most of that comes from rider skill. Just saying, those 60ft times are very important.
It's what I would expect. The R1 is a beast and that's still a 600.
R6 is trash I love my r1 and I'm so glad I didn't settle and saved the extra money for the r1
I loved everything about this video. And I do think that R6 held up pretty well considering how much less power it has. Still plenty for having fun on the street :) Also I will add the new liter bikes do weigh about the same as the 600's now AND some like the new Yamaha R1 and the 1299 Panigale actually weight LESS than the 600's...but I agree, there is something about a 600 that just fun :)

I mean, I think the R6 is fast. Doesn't mean I think it (or the R1) is the fastest haha. I have ridden a 1299 S tho which in some ways is faster than the S1K. Need to get on an H2 tho!
Every liter bike is fast, every 600 super sport is also fast. By your logic the S1000RR is slow, an H2 or a turbo Busa would destroy it.

guitarguy1995 texas is weird. I drove to houston a few months ago and i was behind a suburban and we both did 90 mph for about 30 miles. Other vehicles around us were goin the same speed. Im sure its not that way all the time in texas but fun can be had there.

You just have to know the terrain brother. Plus, not sure if you guys know this or not, but it was passed in like 2010, that cops are no longer supposed to chase bikes as it is a safety hazard to everyone involved, not to mention, innocent bystanders. Now do you have dick head cops who chase regardless......of course, but technically, they are NOT supposed to chase you for any reason.....

The Crossplane Inline 4 is what makes the R1 what it is. Though I do love the sound of my CBR600RR.

My insurance wouldn’t touch an R1 so I opted for the R6. Great middle weight. Quick and highly maneuverable. Wish I leaned how to pull the front wheel off the ground like you do. Good video, thanks for sharing and it reminds me of my coworker and I coming home after work. He has a Busa and all I ever saw was his taillight.

Thanks for the video, had almost as much fun watching as you guys did producing it. On another note, you have to ride 600's much differently than the Liter bikes to get similar performance. Liter bikes are so torque heavy at a lower RPM range, you really need to keep the 600 in the 12,000 rpm range to have the same affect as a liter bike at 9000rpm, especially with the R6 because they have the highest RPM rev out of all the supersport 600 class.

Crob try barely 100hp and 153 hp. Cbr1000rr don't make 170 hp 😂😂😂 not bashing it I own one it makes 158 with a slip on and a dyno tune. Cb1000 would eat the r6 up on the low end.

Why
ridebyben in older generations the R6 was better in my opinion because it was more nimble and lighter. But in the current 2018 configuration there isn’t really any weight or handling difference, so I would take the R1 any day.

And you will never find out what you're missing. liter bikes are for the track, you will not get their full potential on the street. You're basically just throwing away money on fuel and tires because you don't need such a large engine. There are much more comfortable bikes with smaller, smoother engines which can easily keep up with r1 on a twisty mountain road.

2 huskys myself in AZ heat... They did the same "sunbathing" thing all the time. When they got hot they'd hit the pool for a quick dip, then back out in the middle of the yard.
Had my R6 at 172 mph with power commander and level one racing pipe with some throttle left, ran out of road. Even though the R1 has 50 more horses I was able to stay right next to them. Most riders thought I had a R1 because of the power and sound. I strongly recommend the power commander and a good pipe like level one on the R6 and you'll know what I'm talking about. The R6 is the one you want because it weighs less giving it better maneuverability. If I had a track near me I would have taken it to find out what it can do but the only one in my area shut down. Got the bike for 4 grand with everything already on it only 7200 miles. You don't have to spend a lot to have a beautiful beast. Had to let it go because I couldn't ride no more, what a sad day that was.

2 things I take away from this video:
1) After seeing them and hearing them back to back to back, I'm convinced you should try to keep the R1. Even if it's just as a once in a while bike and the R6 is the main bike on the channel, the R1 is too good looking/sounding/awesome in general to let go.
2) If you are going to let it go....a full on max speed run on like an abandoned runway or something is a damn fine way to say goodbye. I'm not talking just beating Hunter, I'm talking as fast as it will possibly go for as long as you can go that fast.

I got my R1 ECU flashed by Bauce because of you, and had them do some dyno pulls, made 160hp to the wheel haha. He also suggested i slap on the block off plates and a new air filter to fully embrace the tune/flash he put on, maybe you'd want to do so also for the R1? (I also run a TOCE slip on, but did the Y pipe/Cat delete)

Going fast in a straight line isn't really racing, most of the skill in racing bikes is in cornering. Anyone can twist a throttle.
It appears you are quite a bit more muscular than hunter, I figured a solid 50 lb difference.
So a drag race isn't a race? Drag racing requires skill imo maybe not so much when it comes down to quickshifters these days like on Brents R6 here.

2003-2006 R6 5sl the European version hits 164-167 with just a filter iridium spark plugs and a slip on. Bit shit if a 2017 R6 only does 3mph. American bikes are resitrctred as shit. The R6S is an American version of the European R6 5SL but much slower. Maybe your 2017 R6 are watered down too so unfair lol

Kinda have to agree with that. Motonosity's not really a supermoto guy - hasn't learned the wheelies and doesn't ride the bike much. Nor does he take the Ruckus out much either. He's a pretty big guy, so the liter bike makes more sense. I can see him selling the R1 and buying a newer liter bike, though.
I've got a modded 09 R1 as well and it does 99% of what any other bike could possibly do. Huge fun and way too fast for the street!

I have 3. Never done 170 though,but only cause my bike won't do it. Where did this idea that you can't do things because u have kids come from? Yeah I might die on my bike but just this weekend 3 died and 4 in critical condition in a 3👉 CAR👈 pileup.
Going that speed on that stretch of road with hardly any traffic is no more dangerous than headed home from work in rush hour gridlock traffic at 25mph.
I guess I'm one of those kids that opened the door at 10 PM to see 2 cops in suit and tie telling me I better call my mom and go play upstairs. So what I'm saying is, although I lost my father because of a motorcycle accident in a wide, long bend. I never blamed him when I was 8 at the time or now being 19 riding a bike myself.

You don't need the clutch to shift, quick shifter only cuts the throttle very quickly when you shift up so you don't have to release any throttle yourself.
