- Learn how to remove your stereo. It's really not hard at all. There are 4 bolts which must be removed. I cover the bottom left first, but would like to note that particular bolt can be taken out if you have the right tools and extensions without removing the trim. If not, as you can see in the video it's easy to remove the trim to get to it.

I just want to thank you, I was going to remove the airbag and a bunch of dash trim on my forester but looked at your video and it helps
2015 wrx and STi don't have bolts. It's super easy to do. Just remove the radio bezzle with plastic pry tools and it's all 1 piece. Unhook the hazard light connection, mft connection and hvac connection to get to your radio.
Hey thanks man you saving me 1+ hr long work lmao
cool just realized this is an auto lol
Great video. I watched the one for replacing door speakers and it was so helpful.
Thanks for this video very informative
Great vid, I wanted to add a small amp and subwoofer. Now I can do it😊
Dropped my entire ratchet extender and socket into that fucking hole.
did you take it out?
@@ronaldd.1355 eventually 😂
@@cheriwaves What extension size did you use? and did you remove the knee airbag and panels? or which one?
@@ronaldd.1355 the first time I managed to try and fit an extender into that extremely awkward position is when i dropped it and that was was actually too long. I don’t have exact measurements of that one right now but I used a smaller one and it ended up working. I didn’t have to do anything with the airbag at all and I really don’t recommend you to do it. The actual size of that little fucker you have to un tighten is 10mm, american sizes won’t work
@@ronaldd.1355 the panel you’re aiming to remove it the one that is to the right of the airbag panel, if you look to where you put your keys in, look to the right a bit, you should see seven black lines indented into a panel, that’s the panel you have to remove, id show a picture but cant
Is this the same for the Navigation head unit on a 2015 WRX Limited?
Was there any A/C linkage that needed to be disconnected?
What are you replacing the stock unit with?
Thank you!
Does a WRX not have the climate control cables to remove?
Everyone needs to watch this video and others like it before they film a tutorial. I appreciate the brevity and attention to detail in this video, and you jumping right into it without any fluff. Subbed just for that, but also thank you for this particular tutorial!
That tip for adding the tape to the wrench was brilliant. Ask me how I know 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video. That would not have been fun to figure out where those bolts were hidden
This was incredibly helpful. I have to say I'm impressed that you were able to make this video while loosing your shit. I know I did... lol
haha thanks
Hi there. I see you removed the DCM the little black box that sits under the radio. Has this affected anything in the car?
thats the starlink stuff. you transfer it over to the new headunit since the front speakers connect to it
In your experience is there frequently any wire damage behind the factory head unit/stereo? Having an issue on my 18 base wrx where the #24 10a "radio unit" fuse is popping. Bone stock car and I can't be bothered to remove all these panels and wires just to check on a hunch.
Did you figure it out??
@@nicolekatlynn23 dealership tech Pinched a wire beneath my center console doing warranty work.
You have to remove the 2 airbag bolts and set the airbag aside in order to get a proper angle. Only takes an extra 30 seconds to save you lots of frustration on the driver side bolt.
Hey so quick question I recently removed my head unit on my 2020 sti to add a plug and play harness for a new amp and subwoofer. When input it back in everything works fine except now my apple carplay doesnt show up. I can still play music through the usb output on my phone but I was just wondering if you had any input on what i possibly did. Maybe i didnt plug the usb from the back of the head unit in enough? All the starlink telematics still work as well.
Any advice on removing just a volume knob?
I dropped the 10mm bolt on the driver side will I be able to get it out when I remove the stock headunit?
Did you take it out? Also... did you remove the 10mm bolt (left side) without removing panels or airbag?
@@ronaldd.1355 naw I never got it out. And I only removed the little trim part nothing else. Pretty easy.
@@ssjcesar How come. I have a 150 mm (6 inches extension), will it be enough? What tools did you use (for the bolt removal) please.
@@ronaldd.1355 Get yourself a magnetic 10mm worked great for me with an extension
Dropped the drivers side 10mm bolt when unscrewing it :(
Dude, i cant even get my sockets on the drivers side bolt
same just did this lmao
It’s easy to remove but impossible to put back :(
Isn't this 2016+? The 2015 does not have bolts on the left and right lower sides.
Or maybe that's because you have an automatic.
2015 no bolts it way easier to remove
is that an automatic :(
Pointless removing the trim when you could just unscrew the right bolt, literally same amount of clearance
Thanks for your input!
@@akqjtn although it is easier if you do it your way plus unscrew the airbag frame while still keeping it plugged in
Yeah I found that I had to unscrew the airbag (while keeping it plugged in) in order to be able to get the correct angle on the left bolt on the head unit.
