  • See how to remove the rear dash or rear shelf on a 2015+ WRX. I go over the removal and show you areas that can cause rattles. I also go over the things I did and materials I used to rattleproof and soundproof this area back there. This video was filmed a long time ago and I had the camera set to the wrong resolution the entire time (which is the reason for the poor video quality), but I’ve been asked so many times for this that I decided to put it together after all. I hope this proves useful for some.
    Rattle-Proofing Playlist: • WRX/STI Rattle-Proofing
Here’s the sound and rattle proofing materials I used or recommend:
Singer Roadkill Carpet Pad → amzn.to/2NXEyfD This is what you see me using under the dash near the end. I installed this under the WRX’s carpet and it provided awesome noise reduction and I had some left over and put it to good use under the dash.
Sound Deadening Mats I recommend → amzn.to/2ZTwJyR These load the thin metal on the car chassis with enough weight to stop unnecessary rattling at certain frequencies. Sound deadening your car is one of the easiest ways of making your interior feel luxurious.
Soundskins → amzn.to/2NchJ8n So if I had to do it over I would use this. Soundskins is basically the two above products combined into one. I used these on my doors and man did it make a huge difference. A bit more expensive, but worth it. See install on doors: • Soundskins Sound Deade...
Foam tape → amzn.to/31k61Mi Pick the size you want, use what you need, and put the rest away. You’ll need it again some day.
Retaining Clips → amzn.to/2O0jeq2 If you’re going to do interior work on your WRX it pays to have this around as well as these panel removal tools amzn.to/2ZVAvHd

Nice video! Thank you!! I have a rattle in the rear dash like you mentioned in my 2017 STI, and I'm losing my complete mind. Im definitely going to tackle this one. Thanks again!

Thanks for this video man! I bought 2015 STI about a month ago and have this rattle. I'm about to tackle all the road noise and rattles it has as soon as it gets a little cooler.

Worked exactly as you showed. Pops out and back in easily. Some foam was rubbed all the way to the plastic. Replaced it, rattle is gone. Thanks!!!

i have the harmon kardon system and it rattles badly i'm not sure of it's the brake led section that rattles or the whole rear dash so this vid helps cheers again .I like the way you explain everything clearly and make it simple

Well, I just did this today. Not a terrible job, but putting it back together was a bit of a pain. The thicker soundskins made it harder to line up the plastic pop rivets. I also forgot to take pics of the front of the trim before popping it all apart - big mistake. Tooke me 15-20 mins to figure out how it all snaps back together. Take before pics folks, even if you think it's an easy job. It does make a nice difference. Is it a Lexus now? No, but those little rattles are gone, and that's worth it!

Great guide. I bought some Roadkill Carpet Pad and it works great. No rattles so far, and a noticeable noise reduction in the cabin. I made sure to leave the area under the cabin pressure vents unblocked, so no problems closing the doors and no effect on the ac blower.

I have a base model 06XT which missed out severely when the soundproofing was handed out. I have bought rolls of adhesive foam to try and suppress the rattles.
Works for a while but new rattles will always develop. Went for a ride in a new Camry. Dead quite. Like chalk and cheese.

That was a great video! I had a 2015 3.6r Outback (until last Wednesday when it was totaled in a accident with a pickup). I’ve owned a bunch of Subaru’s over the years, all of them were awesome cars! I will say that the older ones I had had a few rattles. I wished I had the courage back then to pull door covers and rear dashes apart to fix them like you did.

@@akqjtn the video helped out tremendously, thank you. After getting everything done including the trunk it still rattled, this whole time it was the rear break light in the window. Once I padded that with the foam tape material you mentioned everything sounding great! I have to 12 inch subs in the back lol, the rattling was literally driving me crazy...

Would of been nice to have a before and after brother ..I did just lid with killmat and it helped a lot bc not all rattle is bad rattle sometimes you eliminate your acoustics when you do a ton of soundproofing I guess it depends on your application like you said, all in all awesome job!

@@akqjtn Cool, can't wait to see those, your other vids on dashcams helped a lot too. I did similar things under the C pillar covers but now I will do the rear shelf and also iron out a few rattles in the front dash.

    • @MachuPichuu
      @MachuPichuu 3 года назад

@@akqjtn Yeah there is a bunch of rattle location. The rear dash, The rear dash break light. The Arm rest extension button, shifter console, Instrument cluster cover, Radio cover, Tweater dash covers. Area underneath the door covers where the hand grip part is. I mostly just used friction or fabric tape and i have finally eliminated pretty much all rattles in my 2015 wrx. Top of my driver side door cover seems to rattle on occasions and i think thats the only place left for me.
I have solid, Trans mount, whiteline positive shift kit, diff mount reinforcement, various underbody mount reinforcement. So my car is even more harsh then stock. I like your idea on the foam tape as there is some thicker areas where i had to triple up on the tape and the foam probably would of worked better.

Just got a 2020 STi and yeah rattles are a bit annoying especially coming from a ’17 GTI where everything is nice and quiet inside. I love my STi is a different animal but Subaru could’ve made a bit of an effort to make it quieter. Also own a ‘21 Outback the interior is a very nice place to be especially with the tech and the huge screen but still my ‘17 GTI had less road noise. Overall I love Subaru! ❤️

is it easier to do the top side of the rear shelf or the bottom side (in the trunk) with the deadener? The CCF mat is better on the top side of the rear shelf, but even it too could go underneath if it has a sticky backing. Less stuff to remove if you go from underneath...right? No one sees the underside of the rear shelf in the trunk.
