The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I've watched this video an unhealthy amount of times over the past week. My mother considers Nancy Wilson her favorite singer, and I didn't pay much attention as a child, but now... I get it. Nancy was spectacular-sassy, refined, and classy. An absolute goddess. RIP to "The Girl With the Honey-Coated Voice" 🤎 ✨
Sounds like me with Aretha Franklin
We're in the me boat
Miss Wilson ad the uncanny ability to make her covers sound like originals!
Very soulful. She was 32 here.
Hmmm, I maybe wrong but I think she was 32 here not 37 given that she was born in ‘37 and this was in ‘69. I maybe wrong though
@@arlenecerf8833 Yes, Arlene, you are absolutely right. Thanks for taking the time to point out my mistake.
@@Weesperbuurt hi! No worries 😊
She's 32 forever
Excellent....she was one of Capitol's biggest selling artists back then
Spectacular!
I've been fortunate to see her LIVE in Bensalem,PA. Historical. Look it up
Amazing Singer ! extremely Underrated Indeed!
Spectacular
❤ Love Nancy wilson
Just the very best!
She was a very beautiful lady. Love her style of music. 😊
EXTREMELY UNDERRATED SINGER...She is up there with the greatest singers in my opinion!!
1000 percent 👍
absolutely... even upper the Queen of Soul Aretha.... she's in the level of Pearl Bailey, Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald
I think so, too♥️
Not many could compete. Agreed
what a brilliant performer. she captured the essence of soul ballads.
The emotion on her face and in her voice is just Incredible!! Beautiful... All That Glitters Is Gold!! 💫
Thank you for sharing! 💖
One my favourite vocalists of all time - Ms Nancy “Fancy” Wilson. What a treat to hear her sing this fabulous number live . I wore out her studio recording of this song quite a while ago - soul stirring performance ❤️
She was a beautiful lady with poise and a gifted voice and style. My parents enjoyed her music as I got older I was so amazed of her presence and 🎶 as well.. May Ms Wilson continue to RIHP

Happy Heavenly Birthday Jazz Queen!! ( February 20th)❤❤❤❤
A few months ago, I bought a bunch of old vinyl that included Nancy Wilson's "How Glad I Am." I have been listening to it a bunch. She was superb.
Nancy Wilson she's "just too good to be true" ...and I love you Nancy and "can't take my eyes off of you"

Dang! Been a fan of hers for a long time. These performances are incredible. I've seen her three times in her prime...simply amazing!
One of my favorite entertainers. I can listen to her and Dionne all day long.

❤❤❤❤
Ms Wilson really felt that !!!!!!!
This is one of the best versions of this song. It's the mid 1960s I'm 14 yrs old living in Guyana
& one afternoon about 5pm, just out the blue this song came on, on the radio. When it ended,
I was mesmerized & I loved it ever since. Great seeing Miss fancy Nancy performing it, vocally
powerful.
Nice! Great taste, kid.
Nancy🎉🎉❤❤❤😊
One of the best!
I have listened to this video at least 500 times by now, and I tell you, it gives me goosebumps every time. I cannot even begin to describe the absolute vocal mastery of this live performance. Quite frankly, I rate this as one of the greatest live recordings of all time. I wish I could have seen it live!
She betta sang! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
The lady was in a league of her very own and such class. I can't take my eyes off her beautiful face. We won't see her kind again, bc she was truly a trendsetter...
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹
great voice and great feeling, today many singer sings just without emotions
I saw this performance on the Ed Sullivan Show back in 1969. I was not particularly enamoured with her singing, then. I was too young to appreciate her or many other singers of that day. About a week after this performance, I saw a TV special featuring legendary Greek singer, Nana Mouskouri. I was hooked. She formed the benchmark for singers for me. There were singers like Mireille Mathieu of France; Miriam Makeba of South Africa; Roger Whittaker, also of South Africa and ABBA to name a few who did appeal to me. I missed out on the magic of Sarah Vaughn, Queen, Led Zeppelin and a myriad of other great soloists and groups because of my musical infatuation with Nana, (she would not have been happy with me for being so "closed.') Thanks to RUclips, I have discovered the richness of these other artists' legacies.
Wow. Brilliant. Loved it.
Fancy Nancy!
Classic Nancy!!!!
Her beautiful voice reminds of the best parts of the 1960's
no one can deliver a song better
that was just fabulous 👏🏾
Only 32 here- insane talent
The best rendition of this song ever, IMO.
The band makes you feel like you’re flying high
Magnificent!
Love Her
WOW!
The song, the singer, and the performance are all timeless!
Wow! What a voice. I can't take my eyes off of Nancy Wilson!! She delivers a song that grabs your heart and soul! Thank you for all the great songs you have left for us. The Best!!
What a rendition. That middle part! Wow!
And how about the set/background at the beginning. Looks very nice.
My parents were die-hard Nancy Wilson fans, with a whoppng 19 LPs, including the album with this version of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." It's still my all-time favorite version!
Outstanding
Stunning! Thank you for this!
Great singer.
Nancy Wilson a exciting and classy singer. I saw her years ago at The Apollo Theater and her brother had recently passed and she gave and she was extraordinary that entire night.
I was watching Vikki Carr sing this song on Ed Sullivan and then RUclips then led me to Nancy's version. Vikki's rendition is great, but ultimately it is just a first-rate cover version. There is no topping Nancy's very original and personal take on the song. She really makes it her own.
Best voice ever!
Beautiful!
wow
Goosebumps.
And what a hot woman
This is, apparently, what my grandma liked to blast on her hi-fi equipment back in the day according to my dad.
Thank You ✨
You betta sang! 🔥
Legend classic song
1:13
By Golly…
Ms.Wilson ate this tf up! 🤌🏾🥹❤️
Beautiful in every way!
I know we all have our opinions but the Nancry Wilson critics that always knock her singing with lots of emotion & bring dramatic, is whats sets her apart from other women performers singing standards. The critics complain loudly that sehe should sound like her recordings and be very polite and mannered. these people are very aggravating she wants to captivate you live!! If its to much for you listen to her recordings only. Shes a "Fiery" performer live shes not Shirley or Carmen she's Nancy quite being so critical most people love it
She made it her own
My Momma listened to Nancy Wilson and others, I fell in love with her music many years ago. (RIHP)
This is my favorite song in the entire world. Nancy Wilson is one the best singers of all time. Her range, class, and elegance 😮💨. I play this song multiple times a day. I want you to know how sharp that jump is at 1:07. She said in an interview when asked about how she could have it all. Married to a handsome Presbyterian minister and had two beautiful children she had the reputation to choose her venues. She said that she surrounded herself with people that loved her and that enabled her success. She then winks at her husband in the corner and you can feel his love for her off camera. This woman was a phenomenal specimen!
I played this video 3 times and downloaded it while I typed this 😅
STUNNG PHRASING! SO PERFECT! ❤❤❤
A rare mis-step for Nancy - song and dress.
Was this live or memorex…..
Goosebumps from the Diva....impeccable reading and phrasing of this hauntingly beautiful tune. I'm tearing. Thank you Nancy.
😌😌😌
Unbelievable 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️
Sniffle-sniffle 😢
GIRL!!!....WHOO!!!!!
Wow
❤👍🏻✨🙏🏻
Her style of sangria was almost that of Jackie wilson, miss EXCITEMENT
Her style of sangria was almost that of Jackie wilson, miss EXCITEMENT
i believe Nancy Wilson has never received her due as a singer.....though this screaming rendition is not one of her best...
Screaming 😡 dude it’s soul, what the hell, you must be white.
Well she did it her WAY...she was in a league of her own ( others follow her)
Her style of sangria was almost that of Jackie wilson, miss EXCITEMENT.
Love Nancy, but this arrangement is rubbish. The song loses all of its mojo.
