Definitely think the 3rd option is best!

I think you break the options down nicely! For the Frances specifically, I really agree with the advice of booking the first couple of nights (especially if it's your first Camino!). But I would also add that the spontaneity aspect of the Camino is one thing that makes this sort of journey really special; of course it's totally okay to pre-book everything! And also okay to book as you go along. There are lots of good reasons to do that, as you outlined. But one of the greatest things I got out of my first Camino was the practice of just... walking. Not having anything planned. Not knowing what the day would hold, how far I would go, where I would end up, who I would meet, how encounters/interactions might influence how short or far I would walk. I've also found that my favorite albergues were based more on the experience- the people I was with, the communal meals made in a cramped kitchen, a bottom bunk when for sure I thought only a top bunk would be left... I think the Camino is one of those rare experiences where you don't need to book or plan too much ahead and sometimes I worry that because so many people are uncomfortable traveling in this way, they opt for the 'safer' option of booking, and never give themselves a chance to see what a different option could be like. Again, that's totally okay, but I would encourage most people to see what the experience is like without reservations (at least to try for a few days!). Then again, I've been on a lot of Caminos at this point and there are definitely times when I book ahead (especially for less-traveled routes, or in some spots along a route where there's a bottleneck or not many lodging options). Haha, all this to say... great video, and very helpful to many future pilgrims :)

@@NadineWalks hi Nadine 😃 thank you for watching and sharing your perspective! It’s such a rare opportunity to be so free and spontaneous in life. I feel inspired by your comment to allow for at least a few days without booking on my next Camino.

Camino Frances, 5 people in our group ....booked first 2 nights. Then one night ahead until just before Sarria. Due to expected crowds in last 100km booked all nights in advance. A few months later two of us did Camino Primativo... didn't bother booking ahead and first day arrived at destination only to find all beds booked (field hockey tournament in town). 10k to next town. Ended up taxiing with 2 other pilgrims to monestary in next town, and then taxiing back in morning to pick up where we left off. Booked 2 nights in advance from there on.

Thanks for your recommendations. The first Camino (2008) I didn't book in advance, not sure that was even available. Ditto in 2012, 2015. But the 2022 and 2024 I booked. I'm older than most trekkers (73) and I needed to transport my bags. I didn't book often in albergues, usually I would stay in a facility that had a separate bedroom for me.

One day in advanced is okay maybe 2 if you start having issues getting a place. I had a few issues on the Norte in 2021. One thing I did that was maybe a little bit of an issue but still nice - I got to the Albuquerque by bus early for my starting point then walked for a couple of hours, taking a bus back to the Albuquerque. In the morning I took the bus back to where I left off the day before. I did the same thing on the Portuguese coastal - my plane arrived late afternoon, I checked into the hotel and started walking since I felt rested from the plane ride. I still had hours of light. Then I took the train back to the hotel near the airport and in the morning took the train back to where I left off and what was nice was not having to lug my backpack. I did this several times where I used the train one way and walking back to my accommodations and in the morning leap fogged back to where I left off, This worked if I was staying at the same place two nights in a row but I had the hassle of taking a train or bus.

Hi melanie- thx for another great video. Just wanted to say the videos you are making are helpful. They look great, the editing is great, the topics and info are great. Keep doing it! Im gonna do the sane method as you took. I booked sjpp, orisson, ronce, and zubiri ...then TBD. (Btw just insert a text box saying zubiri over the estella in video that should solve that 😂)

@@BabyStepYourLifeToday Hi Kimberly thank you so much for watching my videos 😍 I am glad that I got over my fears and started sharing. Great idea with the text box - I’ll have my producer (fiancé lol) try to fix that today. When do you start your Camino?

@TravelLightAdventureduo you're funny. I wish I had a producer!! I'd take on a fiance just for YT support...🤣. I'll be FINALLY, putting up my videos in next couple weeks, and the fear is real. I have finally just realized that I have things to share to help others, and thats my mission. Whatever transpires from there, no worries. Its amazing how we can be so critical of ourselves and yet I watch yts all the time that are really bad quality etc. And I literally always think, good for them for doing it, I never say ' oh thats really poor quality or they said too many uummms'. We are aware unique species for sure.
I live in WA state, I fly to London on 4/1 to spend a week exploring city life, then to Paris for another week exploring city life ( by this point I'll be ready for my backpack and hat) . From Paris I'm taking train down to SJpp but gave myself I think 4 days to stop along the way wherever and im in sjpp 4/16 -4/18 ( i think 🤔) . Then off ...
My thing that I'm gonna figure out as I go, is the balance of connecting and alone time. I have autism/adhd and traumas that really cause my brain to overload if I don't watch it. I love meeting and talking to people, yet it drains me, so I'm hoping I can find enough solo rooms along the way, although I can stay in the bigger group settings if needed. Im very self connected after years of disregulation, but when traveling I have to really force myself to stay present and listen to my body. I did a 3 mo. Solo around SE Asia end of 2023 that really taught me alot of lessons with hanging with people I met in villages and doing all the fun connection stuff but also being OK to tell the new friends, hey love ya all, but I need downtime now alone. So I assume, this journey will probably pull me in lots of directions to test myself and my brain! But, that's what I love about travel, it allows me to stretch myself, reflect, learn, and continue forward.
Oh, im also planning to walk finistere/muxia so do a vid on that please!! I'm also planning to then go back to UK and walk the Lejog....have you heard of it? I don't have that planned yet but im wanting to see all of uk so it's a great start. Sorry for long note. Thx again

@TravelLightAdventureduo awesome. My content is life related to all the stuff I've experienced and learned through lots of journeys. I will be sharing the camino as I go, and once done, since it will be part of the continued life journey. I just turned 50 and lived alot of ups and downs and some very difficult times, so hoping my experiences help others as i know they would have helped me years ago had people been sharing the authentic realities of life. But, it's daunting to want to get messages across without saying the wrong thing....I think that's the release for me in starting, is I need to forget about perfection or being correct and just share. That in itself, content creation, will challenge me in so many more ways that help me to expand as a human. Cant wait for the next video. Take care.
