That's some great tone, Paul! I just got my new Dobson tone ring installed last night inside my BC-120. Like you said, it took a lot of sanding to make it fit. But now that thing is a beast. I love it. Action is too high so I ordered a shorter bridge. Thank you for getting the ball rolling, and for the inspiration! From the first time I heard your bc350 Dobson conversion, I was hooked! Cheers!
That's a damn fine job you did there! Impressive and inspiring!!🙂🪕👍👍 (I'm building up the courage to try the same thing myself). Nice playing as always🎶👌
Beautiful tone with your mods! I was considering between ac12 and the short scale ac12a(just a bit easier for camping trips etc)…..but now you got thinking fretless too as your modified setup sounds sweet! 👏👏 I have a 1900’s fretless on nylguts which sounds dead in comparison. 🤔 More research required!
Instead of having to “shave down” the rim , I was going to ask if you could have installed a taller bridge to increase the height of the strings. Then you explained that you shaved the bridge down. I don’t understand why you had to make the bridge lower. Could you explain what made you decide to shave down the bridge? Wouldn’t the original bridge have helped keep the strings from being too close to the fretboard?
Do you happen to be in England by chance? and if so, where'd you pick up the AC-12FL? Been looking to get one myself (currently have the normal AC-12 but want a fretless and this seems like a good "minstrel" banjo on a budget). Can't seem to find it stocked anywhere at all :(
I really want to do this, but I'm having trouble deciding between the 11" and the 12". Was it the top of the rim that needed shaved down? The edge did not need to be notched?
That’s a really good question🤓😁🤓well I did not do that, I sanded so that the ring would fit. It would be a good to do that the head would sit in a position to allow the clawhammer player more room to play… 🪕🪕🪕
Very cool.
Sounds like a lot of work.
Nice job.

Sounds great and nice playing. I was thinking about shaving down the dobson ring, or would that be impossible, i don't know.
Shave down the rim a little not the tone ring…🪕🪕🪕
Thanks for the inspiration, just did the same to my ac 12(fretted) and it sounds incredible !

Bridge height affects the action height.
Is this a new fretless Paul? It’s super sweet!
Pat merry merryness,yes it’s a 12” and I’m having fun with it indeed..🪕🪕🪕

@@librandy77 Ah I see, thanks! Appears it's currently out of stock, hopefully they're still producing them so I can pick one up eventually.

I shaved down the sides of the rim…mad cool…🪕🪕🪕
Wow, I can barely change my strings.
Would one have to sand down the top of the rim as well as the side the same thickness of the tone ring in order for it to fit ?

Where did you get the tone ring?
Rickard banjos…… mad cool
@librandy77 how much did you have to sand off the rim if you don't mind me asking , I'd like to.do.the same thing on my ac-12
Not much really and you will know how much when you get the 12” Dobson tone ring. Truly that’s the best way… mad cool..🪕🪕🪕
