@@tammyforbes2101 I didn't say anything about a Cobra, but look up a 1969 Ford Cobra and tell me that it isn't a muscle car. As far 1970 goes, Mustangs and Cougars had the 42EIGHT CJ as an option, and were faster than the 42NINE Cobra Jet Torinos and Cyclones. I ought to know. Please refrain from making false statements in the comments section.
Nice list!A problem that I see is that the drag racing magazines often had better ET’s than the traditional ones like C/D or R/T with the same car .Boss 429 was a 14 sec car in some magazines.I would venture to say that some cars were ‘optimized’ or treated with abuse to get the best time.Let’s not forget some ‘ringers’ supplied by the manufacturers.
Agree...Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, Speed and Super Car, etc. almost always tweaked like opening spark plug gap, turning air cleaner lid upside down, removing power steering belt, lowering tire pressure, to even putting on headers and slicks and folks who make videos like this just go with the times and speeds.
I have a 70 455 gs sinse aug of 71 worked it over a little very fast on street just sold it for heart reason sept of 2024 was always fun to play with other fast cars
Had a Nova 1970 396 (402) 375 Horsepower, for the most stock except for headers, 12" Ripple-Walls tires, Mallory Distributor package, plastic fan, replaced the stick with a Hurst 4-speed close ratio, 4:88 LSD rear and break-lock. On the street I was in the low 12's, and on the track mid 11's all day long. which after dyno'd was putting out almost 500 HP.
I had a modified Pontiac Ventura. 350 motor with 3 speeds. No one at the start beat me because I went to the maximum possible engine revolution in 1st gear and the car was very light. I knew there were more powerful cars but the guys gave up. On the other hand, I was overtaken by a 440 six-pack. when I shifted into 2nd he overtook me
Super cool video, with some dynomite cars. "Almost" had it nailed, cept a Grand Prix, and Mustang, aren't muscle cars. But yeah, they "do" have muscle. That stick shift 4K lb GP, 455, running low 14s is very impressive.
A duster is a muscle car but a mustang is not. How did you get that. The duster was lighter than the mustang and the camero is about the same weight as the mustang.
@@MikeBurks-il4ko Sure Mike, if you wanna get pickey, there are other cars in the video that "could" be considered to not be a "muscle car". Like a "Cuda, (which raced in SCCA, like the camaros, and muscrats). When the term 1st came out, it descibed an intermediate sized car, with a performance engine. Cars like a Torino, a GTX, or any of the A bodied GMs, (Goats, Chevelles, 442s, or GS). The mid 60s Galaxis had some beautiful drive trains, and many would class them as MCs too. but in reality, they're full size, not intermediates. Today the term is so misused, they're calling a Super-poo WRX one. And it just bugs the snot outta me when I hear it tossed out there. (but Hey, that's just me)
You must have simply just asked Google what's a 15 fastest cars were because it's favoring Chevy and GM products. The real truth is they were all real closely matched Chevy Ford and Dodge, but there was one motor that stood alone as the king that was ford 351 Cleveland with 4V closed chambered heads found in Mercury cougars torinos and mustangs
Quick in a straight line, Yes, but show a muscle car a turn at speed and it will disappear through the outside hedge, often trunk end first. Brakes, they were an afterthought.
Back in the days we got a German 'musclecar' This car eats all off this cars i promise Its a mercedes 300 sel amg 6.8 ltr.. over 460 hp 620 kw ..goes up to 270 +kph ....0-60 4.8 sec 🤷🏻
As a point of interest i always scan the comments to see if the video may be clickbait or if there is a major complaint. I noticed this one had several " no AMC" comments. So i fast forwarded through video and quickly give this a thumbs down. Your video title says "THE" quickest of 1970..... at no point in this video was there a 1970 AMC Rebel " THE MACHINE" . It is a proven fact that THE MACHINE with a service performance package would do the quarter mile in low 11s. IT WAS THE QUICKEST CAR YOU COULD BUY IN 1970 that was not a race car. It was street legal.
In 1970 if you ordered a Hemi anything you were given a DANA rear end Not an 8 3/4 Suregrip " This also appiied to cars ordered with the 440 6 pack cars with 4 speeds " FACT "
351 MACH ONE , DAMN FAST CAR I HAD ONE.
This list should have had a couple 428 CJ cars, as they would have cleaned up on most of the cars shown.
Cobra wasn’t a muscle car is a was tiny little thing with a huge muscle car engine!

Search car life road test summary to get a grasp on the different classifications back then. No such thing as a muscle car.
@@justme307 Absolutely correct. no-one called them "muscle cars", till maybe the 80s era. We use-ta call them "hi-performance" cars.

Well, certainly not a muscle car at 2:40, what´s that wagon in the background? A Pontiac but with that raised roof, I guess not factory?
