Being a racedriver is about a lot more than driving fast. Mclaren has had the fastest car for the past 6-7 races. Yet they've only won one. That's just as much one the drivers as the pitwall. Both Lewis and Max made crucial decision in this race which benefitted them. Norris and Piastri didn't. Doesn't mean they are bad, just that they don't have Max and Lewis' experience.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Red Bull is keeping Perez around as a guinea pig to gather live tyre data so they can maximize Max's strategy. Funny how Checo starts the race on hards and then Max ends up being the only front-runner to change to hards later on. It makes sense to me, anyway. Who better to gather your tyre data than the tyre whisperer himself, right? It's the only way I can make sense of why you would keep a driver around who scores so poorly compared to their teammate, is if he provides a side benefit in the form of a consistent test driver, or if his feedback is valuable for whatever reason. Whatever it is, it's obviously valuable enough to keep him around. And you would only do that if you were planning on backing one driver for the wins, which Red Bull appear to have decided to do.

This was a weekend where they made the best out of Perez poor qualification. Red Bull's error was in giving Perez a new contract cause it clearly hampering there constructor standings unlike Mclaren maximization of constructor championship points every weekend regardless of whether Lando or Oscar win.

Much as I'm honestly neutral, and regardless of who it is, and what class of racing (on 2 & 4 wheels), I always want the best racer/team on the day to win. I genuinely think that was the case this weekend. And I couldn't have been happier for Lewis.
This may be the last race he wins at all, let alone for Mercedes, and if he was going to win one, _this_ was the one he deserved to win. 104 wins, 9 at Silverstone; way more than anyone else's total, and the most of anyone at one place. And we saw it happen. We saw history being made. That doesn't often happen.
