Renee Rapp stole the show as Regina, her songs were definitely the most entertaining. I also liked that Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall were revealed to have a romantic relationship, unlike the original.
Karen ATE
Omg yes!!
Absolutely Karen’s song is one of my favorite now
Exactly!! Also, the way they shot Someone Gets Hurt legit blew my fkn mind! It almost felt like a horror movie, which worked SO WELL. 😂
Looooved her in the movie. Hate her in real life. Yuck of a person.
I feel like Gretchen and Karen got so much more in the original Broadway musical, for example, they took out ‘meet the plastics’ song in the movie, it was just ‘meet Regina’
Yea it’s definitely weird to call the song meet the plastics when we only meet Regina 😂
I loved how Renee played Regina as a no-bullshit, point blank vicious terrifying character. Someone Gets Hurt felt like a horror movie.
Same, I loved this Renee playing Regina making her own spin of her.
We mention that in our full hour long discussion! You can listen for free whenever you listen to podcasts (search “pink popcast podcast”)
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt like the hellishness of the school was a bit lacking. I get not wanting to repeat slurs anymore, but there's clearly a disconnect. It speaks volumes that the worst that could happen to a teenage girl online in this universe is to be embarrassed or cancelled for a few weeks. 😂
Yeah it’s a weird predicament. You don’t necessarily want to hear vulgar bigotry, but that doesn’t mean you can’t write a MEAN girl!
the movie seems to kinda have the same issue they had with mean girls 2, it feels like a disney movie in terms of how not mean people are, i get not wanting to be bigoted but we can be a LITTLE insensitive because that's how high schoolers are in real life
In the Broadway version, a lot of Cady's internal monologue is done through songs and stuff, she's constantly comparing teenagers to animals and such like in the original, however most of those songs were cut (eg. It roars)
That’s annoying ugh
Couldn't agree more with Rizzo! Jaquel is not getting enough praise IMO. And I had the same Regina problems, but I think that was more the movie's fault than Renee. She did great with what she had. Still enjoyed the movie overall.
Exactly! Love her, despite the script’s weaknesses
she's BEEN regina before, and she's been an incredible regina on broadway, definitely the fault of the script unfortunately
I love the costume choices because Rizzo is giving Regina in her Personally Victimised Era and Benji is Wednesday Gathering.
Hahahaha so true!
and i’m still looking for my tracksuit
no but the regina part is SO TRUE. not even on just the new movie, but also in the musical since 2018. this regina is portrayed as someone who is truly evil and 100% believes she is better than everyone else. the halloween sequence alone proves that
in the 2004 version, when she noticed aaron might possibly like the idea of cady having a crush on him, regina starts trash talking about her, saying how creepy cady was
in the broadway musical and in this version, she instead pins HERSELF as a victim, as a fragile girl who was misunderstood. just her looks and her persuasive power made Aaron believe that he was the wrong one for breaking up with her, even tho she cheated on him.
when it comes to the “ dark humor “ jokes i don’t think people realize how much u don’t actually have to take out. not even in a filmmaker way. but i see lots of people complain that movies like mean girls or white chicks couldn’t exist now. so not true!! their is a fine line to walk but that’s always been what makes those jokes funny and risky! the joke where they mistake the only black girl in the class for katie bc she’s from africa would totally still get laughs and be fine. saying a slur is not. which is a good thing in opinion.
haven’t seen the movie just talking generally!!
Fully agreed! The punchline can be: “This bigot’s an idiot” instead of “Haha, this person is different”
@@PinkPopcast mhm!!! :)
Fun fact: Mark Waters who directed the original Mean Girls movie has a brother called Daniel Waters who wrote the screenplay for Heathers, which has also become a musical. Incidentally, I thought that Mean Girls was also inspired by Heathers and became the more toned down and less psychotic version 🤣😁
That IS wild! And I thought I knew everything about that original movie
Heather, mean girls, and Jawbreaker are the perfect trio 😍
@@AriannaGi I couldn’t agree more!
and clueless!@@AriannaGi
Mean Girls is Heathers but no one dies lol
Renee was just tooo stunning. When she first showed up I literally gasped.
Right!?
The modern equivalent to regina calling that girl's mom as "planned parenthood" wouldve been her screenshotting a bad joke someone made from years ago and posting it saying something like "can't believe how ignorant some people are :(" and "accidentally leaving the person's name in
and doctoring the date so it looks more recent
lowkey the only songs i liked were the ones about or sing by regina + sexy.
Hahah I feel it
This was why I didn’t like the broadway musical lmao. I actually like this one more than that one
I enjoy what they did with it, but I also wish they would’ve included some of the other awesome songs from the musical in it. Like More is Better which is a great duet between Cady and Aaron that gives a lot of info about the way their characters view things.
Also Apex Predator was much better in the stage production. Cady sings it with Janice and it shows Cady’s awe at Regina’s power along with Janice’s warnings about it.
I would’ve loved to have seen them cast a cute theatre boy and give him a song for Aaron!
yeah, sadly the guy who played Aaron just didn't wanted to sing at all apparently lol
@@0905Db why did they cast in a musical someone who didn't want to sing ?
@@nanalove3819 exactly, I am so confused
I think the movie was "cool", it was obviously made for gen z... but still, the original characters had so much personality, this one some people were just meh in my opinion. Like Aaron, he didn't appear that much in the original, but he was a very strong part of the movie, the new aaron just felt kinda bored all the time with that blank expression...
Hahaha he’s like that in Summer I Turned Pretty too!!
Somebody reviewed Mean Girls and said they should have called it Cuttingly Sardonic Girls.
😂 omg that’s so true
Mean Girls (2024) is the Happy Meal to the 2004 Mean Girls McDonald's Main Menu meal. Both are enjoyable. You're right about the new version not having enough bite. It's like the writers didn't want to really crush anyone's feelings.
Famous Last Words: “Is that the straightest thing I’ve done?”
😂😂
On my tombstone 🪦
As a fan of the musical what they did to “stupid with love” physically hurt me, that’s the only criticism I have
Haha I’ve seen that going around
Fr! I love this movie, but when Stupid with Love comes on I need to skip it
Janis and Damian’s backs must hurt from carrying the movie 💅
angourie rice is a gorgeous actress. but u can’t tell me this wasn’t nepotism casting
Is she someone’s daughter!?!?
@@PinkPopcasther dad is a director. i NEED it to be nepotism casting for my own sanity
@@arianamitchell7050 I wish that were true too (to a certain extent,) but her dad only directed 5 episodes of a tv show in 2008, and hasn’t worked on anything since 2011. I’ll admit I am not personally a fan of her singing, but gotta give credit on the acting. She was strong as hell with the material she was given.
@@PinkPopcast I mean, aren’t we all?? 😜
Nepotism lol. I think not.
I only knew of Avantika because she did a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2020 called Spin where she played a STEM student who learns how to make EDM music.
1:49 OF COURSE! We never forget that we go to the movies for magic.
😂😂😂
I’m so happy to hear about Avantika doing a great job as Karen. Also, great in terms of subverting South Asian Rep. I manifested under a different video lol
P.S. Amanda and her recreated a photo which was so cute.
Yeah it’s wild how awful Asian/South Asian representation is in media
@@PinkPopcast It’s a complex issue especially when it comes to caste.
I never skip the sponsor adds they are always so random and hilarious
Thank you so much! We put a lot of effort into entertaining ourselves within the sponsor’s guidelines lol
Great job guys!
At the end. Damien’s like, she’s sounds so good, but she don’t go here!!!!!!
😂😂
I’m a gay so this movie is apparently for me 😂 but yeah I agree with everything said. This movie is good, it’s fine, but it also isn’t a masterpiece like the OG. Regina did not need to be weight sabotaged here, that should not have been recycled. But the way this story and characters are done here… none of them are actually all that mean! Regina acts like a big deal and dominant yes, but not a mean girl who needs to be taken down. Cady barely had any character development so her going to the dark side felt unearned. Social media wasn’t used the way it should have been. And the Plastics weren’t even Plastic. Having all the inclusivity takes that away. These were just a group of friends trying to rule the school but how? Why? Renee Rapp all the way. Huge fan now. But yeah, OG is a 5/5, this is a 3/5.
Agreed on most points! I’d be curious what you would have done instead of weight sabotage 🤔
@@PinkPopcast well she was already curvy… I’d have more leaned into social media take down, reputation ruin, and exploit her adolescence by throwing her hormones out of whack so her skin got bad (more bad than a face breast anyway lol). And considering she had the ego of “I’m a huge deal” expose her for being not much of one after all.
@@PinkPopcastI was thinking about this when reading this comment and I feel it would make sense for Regina to have some sort of higher position in the school, especially with how even the teachers and principal are scared of her. Making her a class president or running for junior jury, something that gives her power over others that they can try and take away. I think this also could have made why she is so feared (while still being so openly mean *cause at my school she would be called out immediately*) kinda make sense.
I agree with most of the comments but there was one I disagreed with. I'm not trying to be rude, but as someone who has been in the same place as Gretchen, you stay friends with someone like Regina because if you leave, you have no one and nowhere to go. You leave someone so popular and socially strong, that you become alone, which is the worst feeling in the world. Sorry if this was annoying or sad but I should put this out there.
Yea that makes sense it was part of Gretchen’s character in the movie so I guess it still came across in this musical too
I like the Movie It wasn't the best and I love mean girls the musical but I wish they would've kept the music the same as it on broadway but besides that I enjoyed it
Glad you were able to enjoy it! The original one will always be there too!
As a queer girl I liked what they did with Janis in this one, I always hated the way they resolved her character in the original (honestly, it felt like queer baiting).
Also, Karen had sex with 11 people not guys, don’t be so heteronormative Benji 😂 😜 /j
Lolol you’re right my bad
I thought the whole point was that Regina misheard janis when she said she was Lebanese and spread the rumor that's she was lesbian ?
@@thickintheheadthat was just a rumor it was never confirmed
I feel like just like the trailers, ya''ll should've talked more about the music!!! I would literally go see the movie again just to see the "Someone Get's Hurt" sequence again. The transition from Regina singing "I will win the war-" into her crying in the principles office during World Burn was so creative and solid, Karen's song was just so much fun, Gretchen's song made her devolvement in turning against Regina more natural and emotional in my opinion (especially with how outwardly mean Regina was to her), just so much to love about it.
you can listen to our full 1 hour discussing for free wherever you listen to your podcasts (search “Pink Popcast Podcast”). We talk a little more about our favorite songs but yeah, we’re not really theater people so there’s only so much we’re going to discuss.
@@PinkPopcast Ya know, despite the name of this channel I forgot this stuff would probably be in an actual podcast episode so thanks for reminding me💀
I have never clicked on a video soo fast! I was hoping that you both would review (and hopefully one day react) to this movie. I'm soo happy!! 😊
We will definitely watch it on our channel when it’s out
Honestly I really enjoyed it, but I went into just looking for a good time lol. I feel like it’s one of those movies that is meant more for just watching at a surface level and having fun. Renee, Auli’i and Jaquel all had wonderful voices. Also the choreo fucking slapped
The choreography was probably my favorite part about the entire movie! And an absolutely succeeds as a film you can enjoy surface level.
I loved this movie! I don't particularly like the og, and tho I've seen the entire movie, it's been in bits and pieces over the years. I am a girlie, but it's just not my cup of tea. Same with Heathers. I don't like the movie, but the musical is top-tier storytelling and music. And tho I didn't love the music in this, Renee Rap and Jaquel Spivey stole the show! I was in tears from laughing.
Yes, luckily, they had some great actors to make this a great experience
Totally random I don’t think anyone else would have noticed this 👀 in the original movie the principal had a cast on his hand, and in this one he has a resting hand orthosis (which you only wear at night)
I’m an occupational therapy student 😂
Hahaha we definitely didn’t notice, thank you
So I went to go see mean girls with a bunch of my friends, we've all been actors/theater kids for a big portion in our lives, I also went to go see it with an open mind and here are my opinions and most of my friends opinions when the movie ended. #1 Cady and Aaron were boring, they had no chemistry and were just awkward, and Cady couldn't really sing. Arron was also casted only for his looks, on broadway he has songs, but when they asked him to audition, he turned them down, but when they said they would pay him more, and he agreed, but said he wouldnt sing, IN A MUSICAL! (He said this in an interview) #2 Janice, Damien, Regina, Karen, and Gretchen were the best parts. They could all sing, act, and do their parts realllyyy well. Revenge party sounded like the Broadway recording(but that point 5 section with Cady's part💀💀). #3 this movie IS for the girls, gays, and theys. Everyone was literally so pretty, it made my little pansexual heart feel things. And my two lesbian friends very much agreed. And #4 stupid with love was the worst song, it just didn't sound right, it was fast and sudden, and again, awkward, and they kept trying too make it THE song of the movie. Also what ifs was the same, sudden and awkward. And ya, these are my own opinions, (people don't come after me in the comments) a solid 6.5-7/10 movie
This is the best reviews I've seen and I love every point. Worded so well
Thank you!!
can’t believe i didn’t immediately think of u guys when this came out! so excited!!
But you’re here now! Yay 🎉
i loved the review format! would love to see more of the podcast style!
Ugh same! It’s hard doing reactions cause I need time to process my thoughts! I would love to do more of these too! 😊
@@PinkPopcast yes i totally understand as a fellow adhder sometimes media doesn’t immediately stick in my head or i can get pulled onto a tangent and miss things but I like the review format as more of a relaxing vibe and lets you guys explore your media backgrounds and interest without the pressure of ‘missing the movie’ so could be good for when a reaction isn’t as viable (whether an older movie or still in cinemas etc) though i also love the reactions so always do what you guys enjoy
I'm a queer man, but I definitely agreed with Josiah about all the points he made. This movie felt hollow in the way the original didn't, and the writing for the new Janise in particular was awful. But based off of my conversations with other queer folks - no one is going to admit that they don't like this movie.
That is how I felt editing this. Outside of Benji, it felt like everyone was just convincing themselves they HAVE to like it (or else).
I’m writing this before watching the video but I feel like the comments are not acknowledging Auli’i Cravalho enough. I absolutely loved her take on Janis I think she did justice to the broadway version of the character her version of I’d Rather Be Me is (i’m sorry) so good! Nothing will beat the OG but this version has been on repeat alongside the og for me. Same with any song Auli’i sang. The production in Apex Predator I felt was so cool. Yes a lot of other songs were lacking production wise but Reneé and Auli’i’s songs stole the show. Having Janis be a canon lesbian in this version means to absolute world to me and I have always been an Auli’i fan since moana and a show she did called Rise. I think she played the character well and made it her own. Now for Angourie who played Cady, I think she is adorable and she isn’t a terrible singer but they did her dirty casting her as our main character alongside power houses such as Reneé, Jaquel (who dominated as damien), and Auli’i. Her character arc was fine but not as clear as the og or musical but it didn’t really distract from anything . I was mostly there for Auli’i and Reneé anyways. As a lesbian I felt the Aaron casting was fine… but chris has to much depth as an actor for that role tbh but i guess some girls see him as a hearthrob so 🤷🏻♀️. For gretchen I thought Bebe was cute, she didn’t feel neurotic enough but yk she still slayed. Avantika was an outstanding Karen. In the musical karen is portrayed much more airheady then the og movie so i loved how she did that justice and Sexy was so fun. As a whole this movie was a blast, the music was fun, and the two girls I went to it for met and exceeded my expectations. Also the product placement did not feel as obvious to me as apparently it did to everyone else. There are only two moments I can think of where the Elf stuff was obvious and then of course Seat Geek but they made that super funny. In my eyes I give it 4/5. And I hope to see people giving Auli’i more credit for her incredible shit.
I just watched the initial thoughts because I'm seeing it on Thursday. Now I'm super excited!
Yay! You’re gonna have a fun time! Hope you’re seeing it with people you love ❤️
@@PinkPopcastAnd I’m back. I saw it with my closest friend. I loved Renee, Auli’i, and Jaquel. There were a lot of line changes and some iconic moments in this movie take place earlier and feel very different from the original. But it was still good, a solid 7/10!
Guys your videos have been such a blessing rn, i got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out like 15 hours ago (only with numbing anesthesia so it was painful to say the least) and your content is keeping me entertained through the pain and hunger (i just want something solid to eat 😭) anyways love the videos keep it up ❤
Thank you! We’re glad to help!!
I’m pretty sure this new movie is supposed to be an adaptation of the musical, not the 2004 movie….hence the musical numbers. A lot of people were criticizing Renee for playing Regina when she literally played her in the musical, and Rachel McAdams herself openly supports her. I personally prefer this new cast over the 2004 cast because at least the new cast looks like they could still be in high school….I mean Avantika is literally 18, so even though she’s currently in college….she could realistically pass as a high schooler as well as Angourie and BeBe. As for Renee, though she’s 23-24….she looks like a high school senior. With the 2004 cast, only Lindsay Lohan looked like a teenager while the rest of them looked like they should’ve been in college at that point.
I think the problem is they definitely didn’t fully embrace the musical aspect. Technically, you should be right, but an actuality this was more of a remake of the 2004 movie then it was a remake of the musical. It should’ve gone the Hairspray (2007) route and just been completely its own thing.
This film was decent, but the amount of blatant product placement was a bit distracting. If not ELF and Spotify, then the way they had Lindsay Lohan cameo to literally plug Seatgeek at the Mathlete competition.
The Seatgeek thing was at least a joke, unlike the more standard ELF and Spotify examples, poking fun at this sort of blatant product placement in something so mundane as a math tournament. However, making a joke out of product placement while still making money off the product placement is kind of like when a movie calls attention to it’s own plot holes. It doesn’t make them better just because you’re aware of them.
😂😂
@@cloudstrife4534that’s why our sponsors are only in the beginning and never “integrated” in our actual reviews or reactions 😂
i swear people are lowkey dramatic about the product placement i only really noticed the elf stuff like twice and ive seen the movie three times now
Omg rizzo and i have the same favorite musical. 3:57
The original is my all time favourite film but I was really looking forward to this version, it's obviously not a patch on the original but it's not trying to be, its just a bit of fun. I've been to see it twice and actually enjoyed it more second time round because there's a lot of visual flourishes in the background of the musical segments that you miss first time around. It's really self aware of how silly it is, especially during "What's Wrong With Me" when Cady is just looking at Gretchen like "wtf" while she's singing 😂 "Sexy" is the highlight of the movie and I love how they tied Regina's accident in with "I'd Rather Be Me", it hits quite hard when it happens.
Admittedly they've sanded the edge off the humour and the nastiness, and the last song is a bit of a dud. Also I think some of the bits that have been completely copied from the original feel a little too much like a Mean Girls cosplay too. The biggest issue that it has is that too much plot development has been yeeted to make way for the songs, so some elements feel unearned (what you said about Gretchen & Karen is correct). But I can see myself rewatching this version a few times because its so fun and uplifting.
I think that's a fair assessment. At the end of the day, we all seemed to have "FUN" with this movie!
2:01 Nice outfits! Bonus points for cute jumper.
🙌🏽
avantika and renee rapp supremacy 🩵
🎉
I watched this tonight and "defanged" is the best way to describe this remake.
I was proud of that myself ☺️
love to hear your thoughts! i’m gonna have to mosey over to the podcast to hear the whole thing. i wasn’t a huge fan of the bway musical, so i went into this movie apprehensively. i did enjoy it more than i expected, but i think my biggest gripe was the rearrangement of the music😭 they claimed they were making it more “spotify friendly” but instead they removed a lot of character, energy, instrumentation, and ensemble from the music. coupled with the reluctance to market it as a musical, it felt like they were afraid to commit to giving the music what it deserved (tbh, the choreo too). & a musical that isn’t 1000% committed to itself is so criminal to me😭 it’s the theater kid requirement
Art imitates art imitates art imitates life.
😂😂
I have the Burn Book popcorn tin and the cup.
👏👏👏
I thought it was a good movie, but a lackluster musical. Does that make sense? Like how the hobbit is a fantastic movie but bad at being a book adaptation.
100% agree! - Rizzo
ARE WE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW IN THE ORIGINAL THE ASIANS LITERALLY SAY THE N WORD and not a single black character has any story or development, the only time we see black people interacted with is when Regina makes fun of one of the ladies skirts one of the black women saying oh no my hair when the water turns on and Katie LITERALLY PROFILING THEM don't even get me started on the aave🥱 the movies iconic I love this movie like any other gay but let's face it it's ridiculously offensive💀
the worst part is that the asian girl in the original doesn't even say the n word- it's a mistranslation for shock value! the sexualization of the asian characters (like the one being groomed by the coach) as well as the inaccurate names (just combinations of vietnamese and korean last names. wtf) further highlight the... problematic ways in which tina fey has represented the aapi community and other bipoc communities throughout her career.
@@violetception 100% the problematic parts like over a sexualization of the people of color and many more aren't even the funny parts like at least be funny but it's not maybe for white audiences but people of color are always the butt of the joke it's ridiculous I don't care if it's 20 or 100 years ago it's not cute
I was hoping the Girl From Michigan character would get some development.
Reneé Rapp is a miracle of a person and an artist indeed. She was everything the movie had. She was the best singer, the best actress and yea, the star! Cady was always in autotune, Aaron did not sing… yea, the movie lacked a lot. But great interpretations of the characters, in general. I still miss Regina and Cady kissing towards the end. Especially with Reneé!
Omg a kiss would’ve been great!! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
I love Chris Briney so much as an actor! He acted in my favorite TV show series "The Summer I Turned Pretty" so I'm excited to see how he acts in this movie!!
I didn't connect with the Mean Girls musical bc it was never for me, but I know it has a lot of fans so I'm glad the movie was well done!
See that’s the spirit!
Auli’i was amazing in this movie! Like girl can sing(well obviously she is the moana) I love her take on Janis and all her songs are the best(but I already knew that coming into this having seen the Broadway show 😂)
My school is doing Mean Girls for their musical this year =)
Omg that’s awesome!!
Reneé rapp our QUEEN!!
I can't stop listening to the soundtrack, I loved the movie, I loved the songs! To me, the idea of mean girls is essentially that all girls are so mean to each other, especially in high school so it doesn't shock me that the great evil is Regina but that the two others are not "that bad" but I see where you come from when you said that!
Ooh Benji, i love that pink shirt, where did you get it? Soo adorable 😍
I haven't seen the new version, but the OG Regina had that sweet barbie doll type quality that makes her dangerous, like a venus fly trap. There are moments when Cady says, "she seems sweet" and welcoming like other movie characters like Elle or Cher
Renee's version felt very intimidating to me on the get go (as per the trailers) idk!
My fav character is OG Janis though (is there any relevance for her being gay in the reboot? Her and KG were cool couple in the og 😎)! Always ❤️
Personally myself I did enjoy it
However I do get its issues
Like in my opinion, this should’ve just stayed as a Broadway musical and nothing more. Remaking the movie wasn’t unnecessary at all
Or the movie should have been MORE musical!
Despite the flaws, I really liked the movie, it was so much fun and I was smiling during the whole thing lmao. I never see movies in the theatre twice but this one might be an exception.
Also, Rizzo is right. Reneé mothered.
The original will always have my heart but the new one I see more of myself in it like with the diversity and being in high school right now I think the cast did amazing ❤ The girl playing Karen stood out to me and renne sexy plus the Halloween scenes were my favorite Damien was funny to
There were songs in the original musical that definitely let us connect more to Gretchen and Karen. If it were up to me, I would've nixed I'd Rather Be Me in favour of the full version of Meet The Plastics (which is more of an ensemble and not just Regina's song) and/or Fearless which gave us more of Cady-Gretchen-Karen dynamic (and like, the movie had tons of scenes to establish their friendship so why not just keep that song?).
That sounds pretty solid, we needed more of Gretchen and Karen singing to get to know them
Anna and the Apocalypse is also another great musical in the horror genre that I would recommend. And the soundtrack is A+.
I personally felt like it wasnt mean enough high school is literal hell so i just didnt feel it. Also the fashion sucks. A huge part of mean girls is the fashion and the fashion frickin sucks so bad its boring and says nothing about the characters for me. This ones a hard pass
As an Australian myself I simply have to defend them casting Angourie as Cady until I die. Was she the best singer? Obviously not. But it seems like the casting choices were made more so on acting ability than vocal talent (otherwise why did they give Chris the part if he refused to sing). So I gotta stand up for my girl there bc its hard to adopt another accent let alone sing in another accent so I think she did the best she could with the tools she was given!
It’s a musical … the issue becomes that there are tons of amazing actors who are amazing singers , and a lot of Broadway actress in the same way . The accent thing is hard and casting choices are not her fault . The issue is they go through a whole casting process is weeks even months , they could’ve found someone who could sing . That’s with me also knowing production of the songs was lacking . Please note I am a huge fan of both the original movie and musical who also did not care for the acting either. I love her in her previous work just not this movie
@@lizdv8779 I completely get where youre coming from! I agree that there were probably so many amazing possible people that could have been cast. I love seeing Australian actresses get bigger roles so i loved her in it regardless hahah. I think my biggest issue is that most criticism has fallen on her but not the same applied to Chris i guess.
@@maddiebaldwin8095 I also totally understand that! I think critics are so much harsher to woman especially in Hollywood . I hope you have a great day and I’m happy to have a positive interaction over this topic!
@@lizdv8779 Thankyou! its so refreshing to have actual discussions and not arguments on this platform hahah
This movie triggered my bi-panic sooo badly in the best way. It went by so fast, it felt rushed at times but not distractingly so. I agree that Renee was meaner than Rachel but like Benni said, I was TERRIFIED when she found out about the plan. Ugh I loved it so much.
Oh no😱 Here we go🫣
I have Monopoly Go on my IPad. I need to start playing it again.
Nice😄
Wow I’ve watched so many of your guys vids and I did not know rizzo is straight 😮 it was so brave of you to come out like that to us ❤️ we still accept you, just give us some time to get used to it….
I agree with you guys, good movie overall, love the differences but a tad sad they took out 'stop' from broadway AND they changed meet the plastics to meet regina but in general I enjoyed it, it was definitely a fun watch
Full meet the plastics would have been awesome!!
I agree with you but although Stop is an amazing song, I do see why they took it out. It probably would’ve changed the rating as some of the lines were pretty inappropriate. I was heartbroken when they took out Where Do You Belong 😭
I don’t know why they cut “stop”
I absolutely loved this movie
Glad you had a good time with it 💖
I had fun with this movie, it's not a masterpiece and there are a lot of things that are weird about it, but it was fun
See!? Sometimes you just wanna have fun! 🙌🏽
Fun fact about me and Mean Girls. The movie came out 9 days after I was born, I’m 9 days older than Mean Girls.
Hahah nice!
in the musical the narration I feel usually comes through a lot of the cadys songs that were cut
Oh I wish we could’ve gotten caddys musical monologues
Renee Rap was the only actor in here who actually did well. The rest of the cast, like, the ENTIRE rest of the cast was decent at best. And I don’t mean in terms of acting, I think their acting was fine. It was just things like their lines, the scenes that were made shorter while at the same time being totally replicated from the first movie, and also the fact that some of the actors just didn’t seem to ‘scream’ their character. Like, some vibes just felt off. The ones I thought felt most off were Gretchen and Janice. Something about those two actors in those specific roles did not feel right, the vibes were just not vibing. But anyways, in conclusion, I think if they actually MARKETED the movie PROPERLY as a MUSICAL, instead of an actual sequel to mean girls, it would not be getting this much hate, so I think they really screwed up there. I mean, at least it sort of kickstarted Renee Rap’s career, she’s my new celebrity crush tbh!
People who thought it was a sequel from the trailer have 0 media comprehension
Agreed about Janice and Gretchen, also YEAH! If people thought this was a sequel, they’re dumb as goddamn rocks
@@PinkPopcast Gretchen and Karen Shetty should gotten their full meet the plastics avankita was funny and Bebe made feel bad for Gretchen the whole movie her song was beautiful ❤
did Rizzo get his ears pierced?!?!?! 🥵
Yes he did 😏
Noticed that too. Cool!
Any chance you would consider reacting to musical pro shots? (Filmed live theatre performances)
I highly reccomend;
Billy Elliot live
Newsies
Hamilton
Come from away
Waitress
All of these are available on streaming sites and each are different vibes/genres of theatre. A lot of these movie musicals don’t do real musicals the justice they deserve.
You guys need to review the orginal Color Purple. I want to see Rizo ugly cry.😅
Bro Renee rapp is so cute
100% agree
Then what do you think of the portrayal of the Plastics and Damien in this video ("I Am What I Am" Dance Remix by J. Harrison Ghee): ruclips.net/video/WdWgUTL5a50/видео.html
I know they have no speaking lines but from what we've seen at a glance, what do you think? Did they get the characters right through their dance moves?
A saw the movie a few hours ago. Unlike some people i enjoy it for what it was. A lot of people like to compare it to the original. Its based on the Broadway musical. Its not a remake.
It’s kind of both unfortunately. It doesn’t really commit to being the musical that was on Broadway and tries to blend the two unsuccessfully in my opinion. That said, it’s still enjoyable, but definitely could’ve leaned a little bit harder into the musical aspect.
Fellow travellers pls
you guys aren't watching 'Bottoms' ? I've been waiting on you guys to upload😭😭
It’s coming 👌👌
I can recommend you watching Percy Jackson the series together 👀
I really liked this movie. I saw it twice. I would see it again
Same! -Benji
I watched the original of this just recently and I don't feel that I liked it as much as everyone else seems to, although I have since watched a few analyses.
It wasn't necessarily good, but it was fun, and sometimes that's enough.
I feel like the main fumble of the movie was what they did to the music. There are so many good parts of the score in the musical, so it was disappointing to see them completely change the pacing of so many songs in the movie version (I'm especially looking at you: stupid with love). The highlights music wise were the songs (or parts of songs) they barely did anything to, which mainly ended up being what was sung by Renee and Auli'i; so it makes me wonder if the songs were changed to better fit the skills of the actors, but if that's the case I don't get why they didn't hire actors with more of a background in music.
Over all though, I had fun watching it. The costuming department did really well, and the actors did great with what they were given. My standouts were definitely Renee and Jaquel
I just saw the movie, it actually was better than what everyone has been saying, yes they use the same lines but we’re in 2024 what teen isn’t going to use TikTok or instagram.
Renee Rapp is my favorite Regina George. Someone gets hurt and world burn were the best scenes visually.
Aaron Samuels was great, Christopher did a good job!
Jaquel as Damion was so funny, I loved him, Janice was great, I like what they did with her character
As for cady, Lindsay Lohan will always be Cady to me, she’s the original 2000s movie queen, along with Hilary duff, and I’ve been of Lindsay since the parent trap.
I love this movie so very much Mean Girls the Musical.
Don't 😢care about this movie watch Percy jackson I just finished Rick riodans new book all about a young gay couple son of Hates and son of Apollo the sun and stars
