This episode's case was based on the Paul Bernardo & Karla Homolka murders.
The judge at the end was awesome!
Yes and Karla got off easy then she did and she should have gotten more years then she did too in real life then she did too
@@craigbreuwet1924 she moved to the town next to my parents after being freed... freaked me out
@@craigbreuwet1924 She was so lucky not to get the same punishment as her brute of a husband.
I love it when ppl know the names and details of the real story a Law & Order episode is based on. I remember the real story. That woman was a piece of work! I cannot believe she actually got married and had 3 kids. SHM! I wondered if she never met her first husband would she have been such a disgusting human being.
@@CC-si3cr She married the brother of her attorney, meaning he knew exactly what she was, which makes me wonder what kind of man he is.
As for Paul, he was a sadistic r*pist but none of his victims were unalived until Karla showed up. Karla was far more intelligent than Paul (she applied her veterinary knowledge of anesthesia and dismemberment to the crimes).
Karla unalived one of the victims out of jealousy because Paul let the victim drink from a glass they received as a wedding gift.
IMO Karla Homolka isn't a true psychopath in the sense that she has a mental illness; she's just evil, plain and simple. Without Paul she may never have acted out in the fashion that she did but she would have done something horrible eventually.
Ellen Pompeo did a good job. The girl gives me creeps and seems like a real psychopath. She's a convincing 'victim' until the very last minute and when she finally drops the act...whew.
This was one of the darkest episodes of L&O ever. But I loved hearing the judge say, "well it worked".
I agree. Ellen was so creepy!
And the other time she guest starred on L&O, she also played a killer who targeted a family member!
Creepier still, it's based on a true story that happened a few hours from where I grew up.
Seeing the SVU characters on regular Law and Order makes me double take like, “Wait which show am I watching?”
When “pick me, choose me, love me” goes wrong
🤣🤣

Love that bit!
So he found a way to get the information they needed and still get out of the unfair deal... impressive! Jack McCoy seems a pretty smart guy!
Treachery. He will be up before the board😂
In the real case, they stuck to the deal they made with the woman. She's out free now.
Paul Bernardo is about to be free to because of the legal system in Ontario.
@@andrewyoung2796 Why? The Judge killed the deal, not him. He can't control her
It's called: being a criminal. This sort of scheme is illegal. In the real world, Jack McCoy would either be behind bars, or running for president as a Republican. Let's be honest. these days, it's the same thing.
“Your Honor, he baited you.” Judge: “Well, it worked.”
I love that bit!
Meredith Grey also played Jenna in the _SAME SHOW!_ 😂
I just watched the clip from that episode not long before this one haha confused the heck outta me
@@babysmokie7179 Yes! 👏🏽😂
Ellen Pompeo
She's terrifying. She should do some antagonistic role in the future.
I hope Greys Anatomy ends so she can actually try new roles.
Ellen Pompeo as Laura Kendrick is so cold in the episode she has no emotions and no regret for what she did.
It's based on the girl who killed her sister the same way.
Yes, played her character very well. Truly hate-inducing!
Karla Homolka
Love the casual SVU crossover.
yeah thats actually super cool
we have Meredith from Grey’s and Jane from Rizzoli and Isles in the same episode.
well, Angie Harmon was known as Abbie Carmichael before she was Jane Clementine Rizzoli
Lenny is the man. His one liners are legendary😊
Ya gotta love Lenny
@@mikerevello3828 i do
And that's how she became a doctor in Grey's anatomy 🤣
I didn’t know Ellen was in another episode of Law & Order. I just remember the one about her mom being killed or something and she ended up being involved.
Wow great episode!
Law & Order : Olivia Benson
Greys Anatomy : Meredith Grey
Blue Blood : Erin Reagan
I would love for there to be a full-blown crossover of the original Law & Order and SVU, where the characters of each series collaborate throughout the entire episode(s) to solve the case and bring justice.
there was one to be made about a terrorist attack, but a real terrorist event (9/11) happened before, so they had to cut it
That happened in the recent seasons. It was a crossover of all 3 current L&O shows. The season premiere for all 3.
The problem is the two shows are very different. The original L&O episodes are based on real cases and they're far more clinical and serious in their approach. SVU on the other hand felt more like a detective drama involving the detective's personal life. I prefer the original because the SVU can be very annoying and unrealistic it felt like a fanfic.
I thought that woman looked familiar. Isn't that the same actres that plays Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy?
Yea!
She was on another episode seasons earlier where her psycho boyfriend killed her mom
Ellen Pompeo
She was also in the movie, Old School
Yes, she was also in another L&O episode, all though it might have been SVU
This episode was one of two in Season 10 that helped introduce broader audiences to Law and Order SVU: The SVU detectives appeared in back-to-back crossover episodes (Entitled and Fools for Love).
This is the scariest case! based on a Canadian trial. Hard to believe she got away with it.
I didn't know a judge could take away a plea deal. So a defendant could tell the police/prosecution what they want, in exchange for a deal, only to then have it taken away? Maybe that's why some murderers have rejected a plea deal in exchange for the location of the victim's body.
I don't think it happens very often, because plea bargains are considered pretty important by the prosecutors, but I also don't think they would have put it in this episode if it *couldn't* happen. It notably did not happen in the real world incident that inspired this episode, despite the outrage that caused when it became apparent that Karla Homolka was a willing participant in the crimes.
There was another episode where they did this (L&O S16 E1 “Red Ball”). The defendant kidnapped a 5-yr-old to sell her to a pedø, but he got arrested. No way to find the kid, b/c everyone else who knew where the girl was was dead. The deal was time served in exchange for the location of the child & finding her alive. McCoy agreed. They found her. The judge refused to honor the deal stating plainly, “You had no deal with me, Mr. Jacobs!” Guy exploded & tried to attack McCoy, but he was dragged away. It was epic.
Would need an actual lawyer in the given jurisdiction to explain what is and isnt allowed but one of the reasons Cosby got let go is because he made a deal and a new prosecutor many years later tried to go back on it.
It's rare it's often taken away if the information provided is inaccurate/evidence changes the case or is a ridiculous offer for a heinous crime
@@TheOddityFair That ending was great, I love that prick's breakdown.
One of the greatest eps in L&O history. And that's saying something!
I remember this episode! She does such a good job playing a psycho!
It was very disturbing.
Agreed! Very hate-inducing!
Love Abby at the DAs office. No one can fold their arms with as much drama!!
She was my favourite Assistant DA. Wish she was there longer!
If only the real-life case had ended this way. Unfortunately, the Canadian "justice" system is too stupid... Just look at what's happening with Paul Bernardo.
She was mean one in this episode. Really showed her acting skills
Technically, this was fiction based on the murder of Tammy-Lynn Holmolka, Karla Holmolka’s younger sister. Prior to the murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy.
I was looking for this comment. I was going to ask if this was based off of these murders. So awful. People are sick!
I was going to say this comment because I grew up when these murders were going on. Paul and Karla lived two hours from my hometown
This is based on the murders committed by Paul Bernardo and his wife in Ontario between 1987 - 1990.
Norma Fire as the judge! Miss you, Norma.
This case semi resembles the Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka cases
i thought here last name is Bruni!! I do remember this case
That's what it's based on.
That was the inspiration for it.
@@denisejones480Carla Bruni is a singer and wife of a former French Prime Minister.
I tell my husband all the time that so many stars before, during, and after their fame have appeared on Law & Order or Law & Order SVU
Despicable. Those parents must be horrified.
Of course the parents are horrified, shocked, disgusted, heartbroken and devastated one daughter is dead because of despicable, disgusting and evil actions and behaviour of the other daughter.
Once again stripped from the headlines. This is without a doubt based on Carla Holmolka and Paul Bernardo. I haven’t seen this episode but the sweater line is eerily similar to something Karla said during her video walk thru at their house.
Not the first time she was on Law & Order.
She appeared in an episode in season six.
She might get a deal from the DA, but her reputation in going to be ruined, and they could always convict her of another crime later on.
This episode turned y stomach just like Jack's and Adam's, this was a much darker episode than any other.
Great job, Jack!!!! Nailed it!!
Remember: Nobody Walks!😆😆😆
Confusing because she was in season 6 as a victim, too! Weird when they cast people a few season later and then she got so famous
"MEREDITH GREY WHAT ON GOD'S GREEN CREATION DID YOU DO TO GET YOURSELF IN THIS POSITION!!!!"
Edit: I was going to say twice, but it technically wasn't twice

Can this poor woman do something less depressing and maybe not in a hospital setting for once?
I haven’t watched the episode but this clip sounds a lot like Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. Wonder if the episode was based on that case.
That is some wild ish!
Dang Meredith
The female detective/cop that's in the thumbnail looks like Olivia Wilde as Thirteen if you look at it quick. I thought this was a house MD clip until I actually looked at the thumbnail.
Wait, was this episode based on the Karla Homolka and Paul Bernando case?
Yes it is and only difference that Laura Kendrick will be spending a very long time in prison while Holmolka got out after 12 years and she is living her life, married and has 3 children.
It sure is.
Love this show
@RUclips - Extension ok says who?
@SkankHunt42 what?
I've never seen OG Law & Order and SVU crossover together.
I think it was one of the first 5 episodes of SVU they were in an episode as well as the hotel Christian college wife murder
Wait... Did they just give an entire synopsis of the show? Or was there more to it?
Yeah this is basically the whole kit and kaboodle
There is more
A girl found dead wrapped in plastic, another girl named Laura (Meredith Gray), and Jane Rizzoli? Amazing
Almost as amazing as a slice of cherry pie and a hot cup of coffee
This episode is the most disturbing one I’ve ever seen.
Good God, what a fucked up situation.
And real life

The Law & order Allstars
Whoa, Ellen Pompeo's acting has a dark side. I never knew this.
Ellen looks like a young Melissa Benoist
Knowing how overdramatic the SVU people are, I'm surprised they don't try to take over the case for themselves.
Same thing happened when I got arrested for arson the night before the adults drugged and raped me I was so high I wondered around and accidently committed arson
That was good acting by the woman playing the female perp. Super creepy vibes!

Karla did 15 fucking years for the murders while Paul, rightfully so, rots in prison.
Twelve years.
That’s the youngest I’ve ever seen Meredith Grey!! 😊❤️
This probably based off the real case of a Canadian couple Paul Bernardo and Karla Homokla.

Took me a while to realize this is based on the Barbie and Ken killer couple. They even look kinda like living dolls
This is Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka.
She'll be out in next year in make believe world then 🤣

Nice
I didn't know Agamemnon Busmalis went to law school
Where can I watch this episode?
Except in real life, the guy went to jail, and the woman got to start a new life. She even has children of her own now.
She was sentenced to ten years and served the whole thing, no parole.
She went to prison too, just didnt serve a long time due to a plea deal
It is outrageous and unfair that she is living her life married and has 3 children and she is a guilty as him even more and she should be rotting in prison like him.

Is the actress in the hospital bed Ellen Pompeo?
Yup

Too bad she didn't bring this acting talent to Grey's Anatomy.
Omg no way
