- I joined up with Kernow Camps for what looked like it was going to be a wet miserable weather camp but as we were setting up the clag and fog parted to give us the most stunning sunset and cloud inversion I have ever seen.
Please head on over to Kernows channel and check him out and give the man a sub if you can. He is new to camping and youtube but like me he started out knowing nothing and daring to get out there and try it himself.

Meht I proper enjoyed that. Shame my footage was corrupt, would have been good to have the other perspective! Even though your video and photos of the sunset were great they still didn’t truly do it justice, it was absolutely amazing.
Thanks for joining me Michael, I think we worked well together. Hope to camp with you again soon buddy!
Cheers Daniel. It was a good camp with good company. I'm sure we'll meet up again. Once you've sorted your memory card out 👍😂
@@NoviceWildCamper tis all good now, got a new one and tested!
👍
Hey Mike, the ammo store and tracks are pretty cool, and that target wall 😳 a bit misty on top of the tor, but the sun when it broke through was stunning 😍 I've only had one proper cloud inversion at castle Crag, they are unreal in person 👌 shame the clag came back, you do love your noodles when camping eh 🤣🤣🤣 you nearly took your thumb off with the first bite of that fajita 🤣🤣🤣 lovely morning views too, catch you soon buddy, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁
Cheers Paul, it was an awesome sunset and good to get fed twice 🤣👍
On our watch list for breakfast, looking forward to this on Mike ❤👍🥾
Cheers guys. Hope you enjoy it 🙏👍
Good camp. And vid. My mate mark thompo would’ve freaked out at the cows like. He’d have just left. Wouldn’t even pack. Just left 🏃♂️ 😂 Atb 👍
😂 it's funny how different people react. I was brought up round cows on my nans farm in Ireland during school hols so have no worries about them at all but they are hug and can look quite intimidating if you're not used to them. Specially at night when you're surrounded and all you can see are their glowing eyes 🤣 cheers for watching 👍
Pretty spectacular place I would say. You had me with the horses...how cool was that to just see them roaming around. Must remember not to go roaming around the area when the military is present ;-) Such a great adventure! Thanks so much and have yourself a wonderful weekend! Bruce and Otis
Thanks guys. It was a lovely camp with stunning views and plenty of wildlife. Specially after having a cow snorting around the back of my tent 😂👍
This is absolutely lovely. 36 minutes of pure relaxation. Well done. (btw - looking forward to the review of your new mat)
Why thank you Cyril. It was a fun camp and the most amazing cloud inversion I've ever seen 🙏👍
This is why I love dartmoor. You never know what you're gonna get with the weather. Glad it cleared for you. Stunning
Yeah we couldn't believe it. Thought we were in for a full evening of fog and rain then the heavens literally opened and there was thus stunning site. Couldn't believe it 🙏👍
Nice one Mike, that cloud inversion looked mental, your photos were awesome and the time-lapse...wow! Atb Daz & Andy 😁👍🏻🏕
Cheers guys, it was the most insane cloud inversion ever. Real surreal too with the weather before and after. Lucky to be there 🙏👍
OK OK so breakfast viewing turned into lunch time viewing 😀 how great where the Dartmoor ponies, cheeky little blighters! enjoyed seeing stone structure, will show Kat later, she will love that! ❤
Interesting to see the target practice range too, great sharing 🤗
Worst plug ever lol brilliant 🥐🤣
Sun through the cloud was pretty lovely, and then the inversion, wow magical! 👌
Loved the old phone, do they still do top up vouchers in tescos lol? 📱☎️
Amazing teh changeable conditions you experienced, fab! 🌶🍜
You had all the weather on this one, yikes! Really enjoyable hike and camp guys, thanks for taking us along, have a great weekend, Ceri and Kat ☕ ❤ 🌞
P.s really enjoyed all the different photos, really lovely 😍
Cheers guys. It was a real mixed bag with that weather but that inversion made it all worth it and the morning was good too... till Daniel started cooking of course 🤣 cheers for watching 🙏👍
Very good. Beautiful sunset.
Thanks andrey 😳👍
How long does it take to walk from okehampton train station to west mil tor? And yes tor? Thank you.
West Mill Tor is about an hour from the station and yes tor about 30 mins from west Mill 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper perfect thank you
THe baby pony was cute..... the p+++++g pony not so much ;)
🤣 ruined it 😂
When that sun popped out it was epic
It certainly made the trip for sure 👍
Lofts are useful tbh, you can use em to dry wet gear AND store yer tat.
I find the whole "is it 2, 3 or 4 season?" thing about tents mostly rubbish tbh; it's effectively meaningless. Winter in most of the UK =/= winter in the tropics =/= winter in Alaska. Some manufacturers remove 1/3 mesh from the inner and say it's 4 seasons, when there's no chance it'll take an inch of snow. Others make a 95% solid inner with small mesh vents, and say it's 3 season because it won't take snow build up. It needs standardising like ASTM R value ratings on sleeping pads, and the push to use upper comfort limits on sleeping bags rather than lower survival limits.
Also, sorry for the comment storm. This vid was autoplayed straight after the last one of yours I watched.
Thanks Andy. Proper comments there though. I've used a 3 season in the snow and it's been fine and vice versa. And yes it depends in the element in the country you live. Fourth season here is mostly rain 🙄 love to get some more snow.
@@NoviceWildCamper yeah, exactly. Walking and camping here is mainly making sure you can deal with constant rain, and the rain here is scientifically proven¹ to be 75% wetter than anywhere else.
¹proven by anecdotal evidence.
Very beautiful place. Love the Horses just roaming there. The military structure is very cool. Love watching your adventures. Keep on sharing. Thanks
Thanks buddy. Much appreciated. There's some stunning places on dartmoor and that was simply the best cloud inversion I've ever seen, emotional. 🙏👍
That cloud ☁️ inversion was amazing, as was the chicken fajita! Another fab video Mike. Those cows 🐄 would have kept me awake! I don’t like cows!
🤣 I spent most of my childhood crossing fields full of them. Even rode a couple 🤣 so cows never bothered me. And yes, it was mind blowing that cloud inversion. We were so lucky to have seen it, like moses parting the sea when the fog separated and we had this short glimpse of beauty. 👍
Hah first to comment again. Loooooseeeeerrssss ;)
Ugh pot noodles! Not for me!! You were spoilt tonight by Daniels offerings! (‘Your’ coffee on offer again in same place as before!!)
Not pot noodles, soba noodles. Much nicer and posher 😂👍
@@NoviceWildCamper 🤔🤔🤔🤔 humph!!! 😂😂
🤣
Nice hike. Thank you for sharing and wishing you a wonderful day
Thanks buddy. Hope all is good over there 👍
Sunsets are my JAM!! You caught a spectacular one!
It was amazing. And the inversion even more so. Insane 👍
Great footage again Michael.... and that cloud inversion stunning. Yeah watch those cows...🤣 thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more of beautiful Dartmoor, ATB, Mark (was Truckertaff on night trips to Sourton garage Burger King)... 😁 🍔 🍟 👍🏻
🤣 I remember. 🍔 🤴 👍 yeah was great weather a bit of everything. 👍
Mike great to see another hardy camper 👍
I'm guessing the clouds rolling in was filmed on time lapse or was the film accelerated during editing? It was bloody awesome footage 👌
Anyway just goes to show the less experienced amongst us how quickly conditions can change 😬 However, there's nothing like listening to the rain beat down on the fly.
I look forward to your next adventure atb Taff 🤠👊
Cheers taff. Yes it was time-lapse but even then I doubled doubled speed in editing to show that cloud movement. Was stunning. A lot of people underestimate the weather at dartmoor but anyone experienced knows you can get all four seasons in one day up there. Loved the camp and can't wait to get out there again. Atb 👍
What a cool little mining tunnel. At first I thought it was tracks but I wasn't sure. It's so cool to see them completely covered in grass. What an awesome video! That is a lot of bullet holes! 😳 be careful where you step.
Thanks Emm, much appreciated. It was a great camp with great company whereas I normally go alone so it was a pleasant change. There's so much to explore round dartmoor, love it there 🙏👍
Shame the Army don’t practice LNT with all those shells they leave around the place. 😲
To be honest we struggled to fund any round the firing range but did later on nowhere near it. Looked like someone had stashed some behind a rock rather than evictee while shooting. Odd 👍
Great camp Michael and luxury food hand cooked by your own chef ,the cloud inversion was amazing shame about the weather at the end , great video content as well 💪💪👍🏴
Cheers buddy. Its the only reason I brought him along 😂 it's not wild camping if you haven't got your own chef 🤣 atb 👍
Not sure how I feel about being referred to as someone’s own chef lol
🤣 wondered how long before you came across that comment. You did a good job though 😂👍
@@KernowCamps it has earned you another sub 👍👍
😂👍 Worth all that cooking then
Dave the dog is my favourite from Kernow camps. Sorry Dan ;p haha
😂👍
I’m 45 now, however l have some great memories as a child hiking across Dartmoor, we lived in Plymouth so used to spend many a summer and wintery day exploring this rugged and mythical landscape. Great memories. ❤
Love dartmoor. I go there a lot. My favourite place and the only place you can legally wild camp in peace 👌
My buddies who I'll be going back with are from Plymouth as well.
Good one Mike. Food looked nice. You two make a good double act.
🤣 thanks buddy. It was a good laugh bearing in mind we only just met we got on real well. 👍
Great camp Michael, them photos and vids of that cloud inversion were something else 👍👍👍 looked u had a great camp u were spoilt by Daniel lol and what's happened to the alcohol stove ha great vid btw 👍
Yeah I'm enjoying the gas at the moment. So easy and lightweight. Might try a combo of the alcohol stove and the new set up. Got my new 750ml titanium pot now too. 😁 and you can't beat bringing your own chef when wild camping eh? 🤣 I have to say, that cloud inversion was emotional, so amazing never seen anything like it. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper I had a cloud inversion on my first wild camp it was something but nothing like that
Awesome scenery
Cheers dave. It was the most stunning cloud inversion I've ever seen. 👍
Nice camp mate
Have a good week
Atb 👍🏽
Cheers dave. You too 👍
Great vid Michael, I'm currently awaiting delivery of the Aricxi peak 2 basically the 15d silnylon mongar 2 with a *4 season inner, hoping it'll serve as a new do it all for UK weather. Worth a peek if you've had your eye on the mongar tub height or lack of has always been my niggle with it and stopped me from hitting buy now.
I looked at that version, is it black/dark grey?
@@NoviceWildCamper you got it I ordered dark grey with tax and coupon 98 delivered which makes it the cheapest and potentially best value in the mongar, star river class. It's also exactly the same dimensions meaning all naturehikes spares will fit, bonus versatility.
Cool, although the 15D star river is a lot lighter and I prefer that as its also longer inside for me and higher. Be interesting to see the Aricxi though 👍
Its 12:30, and Daniel is still cooking 😂
Felt like it 😂
Awesome buddy ❤️
Cheers Lee 👍
Sums trangia up.
10 mins for a cup of tea but they are great for actual cooking.
My new fav system even for cups of tea.
I do love my trangia, just been getting into fa's a bit more recently after discovering how light easy and quick it is 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper fa??
Depends what you’re after.
Lightweight systems are great for ready meals etc
🤣 mis spelt gas. When proper cooking I'll always use the trangia as its quiet and controllable plus more enjoyable experience. Gas is great though and showed its benefits in the quick rain and rapidly darkening evening that time 👍
Try the trangia kettle, boils water in about the same time as gas and pot.
@@NoviceWildCamper yes I’ve used gas for ages, I also have a optimus 00 kerosene stove for base camps.
Great camp mate, the clouds and sunset were awesome 👍
It was the most stunning cloud inversion I've ever seen. Absolutely amazing 👍
I can vouch for that pastie shop. I had a lamb and rosemary pastie from there years ago and it was easily the best I'd ever had too.
😂 it is good. 👍
